Chapter 13 #2
And if there was anything I’d learned from my grandfather many years before, it was that once our wolves were awakened to the scent of our mates, the rabble rousing was set to begin.
I yanked her to a standing position with my hand still wrapped around her throat. Her face shimmered underneath the bright moon, her eyes remaining mostly closed. Her expression was serene as she rubbed her sweaty palms up and down my outer thighs.
On the balls of my feet, I refused to let go yet, pushing myself for another few minutes of having my cock buried deep inside.
Maybe I was enjoying controlling her a little too much, enough so that as the need to release continued to build, I allowed my body to shake instead of giving into temptation.
All the bravado and bullshit I was fighting to sell was tossed aside when she squeezed her pussy muscles with her usual utter defiance.
Always eager for the last word. Always determined to take control.
This time, there was no way of preventing her win.
With my body shaking, I gritted my teeth to hold back my natural tendencies, but neither the growl nor the subsequent howl could be stopped.
Just as I filled her with my seed.

“The Shadow Dancers Pack, huh?” I’d read a few of the articles, the reporters acting as if Beck’s father was dying. From what he’d said, his father was up and about, mischievous as could be.
Beck rubbed his face. “Yeah. According to our grandfather, that’s what we were called. But not for decades.”
“Then why bring it up?”
“That’s a damn good question. Why? To remind people we were wolves in a different way?”
“Yeah, maybe.”
“Just like trying to make it seem as if our father was dying.”
I’d thought about that. “Odds makers had a field day with the news. They pure out a dire story followed by you and Ford not showing at a couple games.”
“People would be that shitty?”
Now I laughed, although the sound was hollow. “Are you kidding me?”
“Fucking bastards.”
Yeah, they were. I also wondered if the enflaming storylines were connected in any way to the warning I’d received with the photograph. Just something to keep in the back of my mind.
“What’s it like being a shifter?”
Beck’s eyebrows immediately furrowed together when he sat down beside me. Of course, he was still naked while I’d done the sensible thing and grabbed a tee shirt so I would no longer flash my buck-naked body to the South Beach partiers.
Not that I’d minded an hour before.
He placed a drink down on the table beside me then decided to torment me by brushing a single fingertip down my arm.
You bet I shuddered, but offered a heated look that should remind him of his most hated teacher in high school.
“I’m working,” I told him. What I was actually trying to do was to tell him that my boss was a jerk without saying the actual words.
“Why won’t you come work sitting on my lap?” He even reached for me, but I slapped his hand away. Damn if his eyes were twinkling in the near darkness.
“Oh, no, you don’t.” When I shifted on my seat, a series of shivers almost made me lose my resolve.
His frown was exaggerated, a boy about to throw a tantrum. “Is that a serious question?”
I sat back in my seat, even folding my legs on the chair. “It is. My boss is furious that I didn’t speak to the fact you and your brother are shifters. I’m enraged with him. So angry I just… Oh!” I fisted my hand, shaking it. “I honestly want to kick his ass.”
Why was he smiling? Did he not understand what I was saying?
“You go, girl.”
“It’s not funny. I’m sick to death of seeing the hatemongers out there. How long have shifters been out in the open? Ten years?”
“Almost four,” he corrected. “There were suspicions before that, sightings.”
“That’s long enough for people to shut the hell up.” I grabbed the drink, chugging the entire amount. The liquid burned the back of my throat. So the hell what?
He was fighting a grin. “People are unhappy about what they don’t understand.”
“That doesn’t give them the right to continually go on and on when it’s been proven that shifters are human beings who live and thrive and suffer as everyone else.” I was so frustrated I jumped to my feet.
“So what does your boss want?”
I tried to catch my breath, but remaining calm was becoming an issue.
“Honestly? I think somewhere inside his pea brain he believes shifters are being given a handout. You know, as if they’re stealing spots on teams from good old-fashioned humans.
God forbid the concept all things were equal and it’s your talent that boosted your careers. I’m just… angry!”
This time when he reached out, he refused to allow me to pull away, plopping me down on his lap. Oh, this could get ugly since his cock was pressed between my ass cheeks as if finding a home. And the only thing keeping me protected was a teensy-tiny string on my thong.
I was already horny and he was making it much worse.
Beck wrapped his arm around me, ensuring I wouldn’t escape. “I adore your desire to take up for me.”
“Not just for you. For your brothers. The Masters brothers. For every shifter.”
“Then you know what you need to do.”
“What, hire a hitman?”
“I do love your spunk, but no. Write the article. Maybe what you need is a little help from an insider. “
“An insider, huh?” I honestly could not believe he wasn’t angry, but perhaps he was used to the ugly side of being a shifter where discrimination seemed to have no bounds. I hadn’t been raised that way.
“Yep.”
“Gee. I wonder who I could hire to help me.” I rubbed my finger across my lips, which of course brought a delicious sound, a dark and demonic growl that I couldn’t seem to get enough of.
He pulled my head back so he was easily able to crush his lips over mine. As soon as he did, I shifted back and forth to drive him as senselessly crazy as he enjoyed doing with me. How could the heat become any more oppressive than in being around him?
His tongue managed to slip past my lips, tasting me as if for the first time. I’d honestly wondered if in the future our interaction would feel fresh and new.
When he finally let me go, I took a deep breath and licked my bottom lip.
Reaching forward, he pulled my laptop around to face us. “We should get to work.”
“Are you certain you want to be a part of the article?”
“Why not?”
“So how do we go about ensuring we provide exactly all the reasons why shifters should be allowed in sports?” I shifted back and forth again just to be naughty. Already, it felt as if a huge weight had been lifted.
“By doing what you do best? Asking questions. Or I should say demanding them. How does it feel to be a shifter? Fucking fantastic.”
“Profound. Let me type that into the article.”
“Bring it on, baby.”
And just like that, we were working together to provide truths in a way that would allow an insight into the everyday life of a wolf in devil’s clothing.
Now maybe I was excited to see what the public had to say.
Even so, a stark feeling remained in the pit of my stomach, an instinct that refused to vanish even with his assistance.
We were being used as pawns in a dangerous game.
Only neither one of us knew the rules.
Or maybe they were being made up as time passed.
