Chapter 27 #2

“You know what? I think I will and this time, I’m not taking no for an answer.”

With pep in my step, we walked out and headed to the elevators. I’d be damned if anything was going to get in the way of claiming her ever again. She was mine.

My friend.

My lover.

My mate.

Damn it.

As we headed out of the building, the sun on our eyes, I was prepared to do what it took to get her back.

I headed to the truck, trying to pretend like I wasn’t aching. However, I wasn’t good at faking a damn thing.

Even as I shielded my eyes, I could feel tears forming.

“Why the hell isn’t she here? Why? She’s my mate and not only that, I love her, bro.

I mean I know we haven’t known each other that long, but I love her.

She’s everything. She’s bright and beautiful, drives me crazy all day long, but when I have her in my arms, it’s like she pushes all the difficult situations away.

And her spunk is amazing. The way she makes me laugh and holding her while we’re lying in bed is amazing. ”

“Why are you telling me?” Ford asked.

I’d stopped walking, uncertain of what the hell I was doing. “Because I can’t tell her.”

“Yeah, you can. In fact, you already did.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

I squinted and shifted my head to see what he was seeing.

“Can anyone join in the party or does this girl need an invitation?”

“Sloane?”

“Yep, it’s me.” She swaggered closer, her eyes flashing at me. She’d never looked more incredible or maybe I should say edible than she did now. “Just a girl standing in front of a wolf hoping he doesn’t eat her. Well, not entirely anyway.”

I growled on purpose, woofing on the backend.

“Funny how all I can think about is feasting.” I walked a little closer, my eyes never leaving her. Maybe I was fearful she’d disappear. “So, you heard all that?” I winced when asking the question.

“Every last word and I plan on using it against you for the rest of your life. Just keep that in mind, Devil man.”

“So now I’m the Devil man. I accept that. Does that mean you’re here for the rest of your life?”

She shifted toward me, shrugging as she did, but there was commitment in her eyes, which meant my cock was already throbbing and I wanted to jump up and down. “I think so.”

“What about your job?”

“Here’s the thing. I quit. Of course, that was after punching Matt in the face. Or maybe before. The timeline is confusing.”

“Oh, you did, huh?” Chuckling, I closed the distance, drinking in her perfume and it was all I could do to keep my hands to myself.

“Yep.”

“That’s my girl. So what are you going to do now? Other than dote on me, of course.”

Sloane formed a pout with her lips. “Dote? I think you mean push you into excelling. I don’t know, but a hot man once told me when one door closes, another one opens. I’ll find something. What about you? How did the meeting go?”

“Oh, some chick interfered where she shouldn’t have. Looks like we’re going to be paid twice what we were. A longer contract. Perks. You name it. Oh, and there’s this idea for an exhibition game for charity. Brilliant.”

“She sounds like she cares about you. Should I be jealous?”

With every inch of my body shaking from the heavy rush of adrenaline and a whole lot of red-blooded boy hunger, I gripped her arms, rubbing my palms up and down her soft skin. “God, I hope you are.”

Her eyes flickered down my chest while she rolled her hands up and over my shoulders. “I’m so glad everything worked out.”

“I have you to thank for that. Including the charity event. However, didn’t I tell you not to interfere?”

“You know me. I can’t follow anyone’s rules.”

“I guess we need to work on that.”

“I guess we have time.”

I lowered my head once again until our lips were touching.

This time, I captured her mouth just as I’d done before now dozens of times, but doing so was an entirely different experience.

Her lips were even softer, the weighted pulse in her neck thrumming as if excited.

And the way she felt nuzzled against my overheated body could push me into doing some very bad things, even more so than shoving my tongue into her mouth.

“Ahem,” my brother huffed from somewhere behind us. “Why don’t you two get a room?”

I broke the kiss, both of us laughing. “Maybe we will.”

“We need to get out of here,” Ford continued. “You coming or am I taking your truck?”

With a hard yank, I jerked my keys from my pocket, tossing them over my head. “I think I have a ride.” When I lifted my eyebrow to confirm, Sloane leaned in.

“As long as you’re a very good boy on the way home.”

“Define good.”

She nipped my earlobe and cooed softly, filling me with a dozen or so filthy ideas.

“First, you can start by devouring my pussy with your mouth and very long tongue, a few fingers to bring me to an orgasm. Then you can slip your big… fat… cock deep inside my tight cunt and ride me like a… wolf. Can you do that?”

When she disengaged herself from me, walking backward and toward the car she’d rented, I almost fell flat on my face.

“Dear God, the woman is going to be the death of me.”

Ford was suddenly flanking my side. “Now you’re getting the hang of it, brother. I’ll talk to you in a couple days.” The grin on his face was one I’d usually like to wipe off with a wrestling match.

But this time, I had much more important actions to take care of.

With my hands.

Lips.

Fingers.

Tongue.

Her phone rang just as I was walking closer. A feeling of dread pooled in my stomach when she wrinkled her nose in looking at her iPhone screen.

“Sloane Winters.” She lifted her gaze, taking a shallow breath. “Yes, Tom.” Her laugh floated into the air and I was drawn to her even more than before. “I know. I can’t believe the response to the article myself.” She was all smiles until he said something else.

Then her face fell and the lump in my stomach was the size of a basketball.

“Wow. I am floored and honored. Absolutely. I would love to. Yes, we’ll definitely talk in a couple days. Thank you so much.” As she was ending the call, she kept her eyes locked onto mine. Another smile. Another lick of her tongue across her bottom lip.

And another swagger as she moved closer.

“Who was that?” I asked innocently enough.

“Tom Banyon, who is the current editor in chief of the Portland Herald, but he’s retiring in a couple weeks.”

“Bad news about the article.”

“Oh, no. They have the highest circulation they’ve ever experienced, the numbers on the internet amazing. He called to tell me he filled his position since he’s retiring.”

“And?” My stomach was doing flipflops.

“He offered me the job?”

“Well, I guess that means there’s no turning back. You belong to me.”

This time, she beckoned me with her finger. “Prove it. Devil man. Prove it.”

I glanced toward the sky, chuckling as I did. If only she truly had any idea what she was asking for. And I was eager to show it.

All. Night. Long.
