Chapter 9 #2
Samantha would kill me. Or tease me relentlessly.
Wait a minute. She was gone for the night, maybe the weekend depending on how many shots of tequila she drank. And if she enjoyed licking salt off one hot stripper. It was funny how much you could learn about a person in just a couple of weeks.
That being said, what might or might not occur would be my little secret. She wouldn’t need to know I’d surrendered to a hot hockey player. I’d never hear the end of it if she discovered the truth.
With only a few turns left, I was still debating how to handle the moment.
I’d never felt so conflicted before. On one hand, I was extremely attracted to him, and not just because he was a poster boy for carnal sin.
His personality lent itself to my quirkiness.
Facts were facts. My pussy had ached the entire night, even more so than when our arms and legs had been entangled during the event at the pool table.
My libido was raging and I seemed to have no sense of control over my emotions or my crazy desires.
I pulled into the parking lot, constantly checking my rearview mirror. He followed while I found a space but pulled up behind instead of parking. I cut the engine and as soon as I pulled the keys into my hand, I was even more mortified because my nipples were aching.
While I wasn’t immune to the effects of a sexy man, this was getting silly. Maybe my psyche was issuing a warning that time spent with my vibrator had gotten old.
And it had.
Enough so that I couldn’t remember the last time I’d pulled it from the container.
In fact, it was still in its original box inside a bigger moving box.
That’s how impressed I’d been with the stimulating nubs as advertised.
My sex life was nonexistent and I was a healthy girl.
A woman. I was definitely a woman now and my needs were legitimate and shouldn’t be ignored.
He remained where he was and by the time I stepped from the car, he had his arm out the window. In the condo community’s glaring overhead lights, his face and the curious expression were exposed. Obviously, he had no clue what to make of me.
Take a number. I felt the same way.
I locked the door and moved closer, feeling an array of irrational emotions while the deep vibrations of the powerful engine swept a rumble straight to my stomach.
“I’m safe now.”
Roy took a deep breath. “I guess you are. You live here all alone?” He seemed startled he’d asked the question. “Sorry. None of my business.”
“That’s okay. I have a roommate, but she’s not here right now.”
“That means you’re all alone. You know what happens to women all alone at night when there’s a full moon. Right?”
I wasn’t really paying attention to that I was walking toward the front door or that he was following me until we were standing in front of it. Alone. Together.
“Vampires will spring from the shadows, shoving me against the wall and ripping my throat out?” I turned to face him, cognizant of just how incredible his aftershave was, even muskier than I’d remembered.
Combined with the scent of his leather jacket, a hint of latent cigar smoke from inside the bar, and the richness of his natural musk, a girl could swoon.
He inched a little closer, blocking me against the door. “For a lady who knows a lot about Christmas movies, you are certainly clueless about your horror flicks.”
“Oh, that’s right. A man cursed by the gods, forced to shift into a red-eyed, snarling beast with claws and fangs, eager to rip a person to shreds.
They stalk their prey, hunting like the wild animals they are.
When their victim least expects it, they strike.
A creature with a broad chest, massive jaws, and a penchant for violence. Am I getting warm?”
I was forced to tilt my head to look him directly in the eyes. My, oh, my. In the incandescent light of the moon, they appeared shimmering.
As he dared close the distance, leaving little more than centimeters between us, all I could concentrate on was the heavy pounding of my heart.
He was quite suave in placing one hand over my head on the doorjamb, peering down at me with a scowl on his face.
“You’re still mixing genres, but I believe you understand how truly dangerous wolves can be. ”
“You seem so certain.” My lips were suddenly parched, enough so I dragged my tongue across them. The heat between us was increasingly explosive and it wasn’t something to easily be ignored.
“About the genres or the fact I understand wolf behavior?”
“Wolf behavior. You have me intrigued. Tell me more about what a wolf would do to catch his prey?”
As he released the breath he was holding, a low and steady growl rolled up from his throat.
I hadn’t noticed until now, but he’d dropped his head by a couple of inches, our lips far too dangerously close together.
All I’d need to do was tilt my chin a little more or rise onto my tiptoes and the pressure would be too much.
For both of us.
With the way he was looking at me, I could swear he was eager if not considering eating me alive. The thought alone created a number of tingles. I was suddenly lightheaded, enough I needed to ground myself. My choice? Placing my hands on his chest.
Now he lowered his gaze, but there was no way he was able to see what I’d done. He felt my touch. “He’d pretend to be her friend, making it safe to trust him. Ensuring she felt protected as long as he was near.”
His voice was barely a whisper, dark and husky, his storytelling keeping the tingles while adding a deep throb in my core.
With the light breeze squeezing between us, strands of hair were tickling my face, getting in my eyes and making focusing on him with the one hundred percent desire I wanted impossible.
He cocked his head, his nostrils flaring as he gently tugged them from my lip gloss, easing them behind my ear.
Then he shifted so the wind wouldn’t be a problem any longer.
I curled his shirt into my fingers, finding the closeness both oppressive and exciting.
“Would it be all pretend?”
“Mmm… A good question. Not all, yet enough to feed his true personality.”
A single finger slipped between two buttons on his shirt, the tip brushing delicately across his heated skin. When a white-hot jolt of current rushed down my arm, I was certain my fingertip would be seared from a burn. “Which is?”
“A hunter. A beast who once he catches his prey, claims every… single… inch.”
His breath scalded my skin, his words lingering in the darkest portions of my mind. Or I should say, a sinful promise made.
And all I could think about was what a lucky girl to find herself a dark and hungry beast.
With our bodies so close, our lips even closer and his pulse as rapid as mine, we were both too intoxicated by the other to make any sense of what we were doing.
Or maybe we just longed for a single night of letting go.
Of being the hunter and the hunted.
My breathing ragged, I did the unthinkable, a behavior completely unlike me. I darted my tongue across the seam of his mouth. An invitation so blatant there was no taking it back.
Even if I wanted to.
Another low-slung, husky growl permeated the night air just before he crushed his mouth over mine.
