Chapter 20 #3

She studied me intently while I moved from one finger to the other, my tongue swiping across every inch while I enjoyed the sweet taste of her skin.

Soon, her eyes were close to being dilated, her breathing hitched.

The way she darted the tip of her tongue across her bottom lip certainly grabbed and kept my attention.

Wolfie was hungry.

Again.

If my fully erect dick didn’t give me away, my snorting growls certainly did.

“So when do I get to see your wolf?”

I’d be damned if she hadn’t waited until I’d taken another gulp. She burst into a fit of laughter, somehow managing to capture my mouth before the liquid exploded. The kiss, just like before, took on a life of its own, only this time, she was refusing to back down even a little.

I was electrified by her enthusiasm and the way her tongue was smashing against mine. But as quickly as the roar of passion had developed, she pulled away, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

Just like a guy would do.

Her eyes were illuminated by the flames, her skin almost iridescent, glowing from the aftereffects of mating. I’d thought it just another myth. And as usual, I’d thought wrong.

“Maybe not something you need to see.”

“Why?” The corners of her mouth upturned in a sly smile.

“Well, because the transformation is pretty gnarly.”

“Gnarly? How old are you again? I mean while I have read shifters live longer, using that term would make you what, a hundred years older.”

“Ha. Ha. Maybe I was channeling my surfer dude from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”

“You really to watch more current events,” she teased. “I’m serious. If I’m going to consider being your mate, I need to see the goods.”

Her casual attitude about my DNA was disarming, but in the best way. “Maybe if you’re a very good girl, I’ll show you one day.”

She was serious. I could tell by the look in her eyes. “I’d really like that.”

“Noted.”

The quiet moment settling between us wasn’t awkward, just reflective. I liked this side of our relationship. We didn’t need to talk to be able to communicate. “Stronger. Faster. Keen senses. Right?”

I nodded. “Which we are not allowed to use in sports.”

“Do you ever cheat?”

“Only when I’m angry.”

“Ah, why the critics are so against shifters in sports.”

“And everything else.”

“You can’t live your life worrying about the critics, other than your hockey coaches.” She brought her glass of wine to her lips and it was impossible to keep my eyes off her.

Every twitch of my dick brought me closer to fucking her once again like a wild animal. Forget shifting. I was a beast through and through.

“Then I’ll throw the same thing back at you. You can’t worry about your father or your brother. Only worry about what the girl inside wants.” I pressed my finger against her heart and I could swear no one had ever said that to her before.

“No fair.”

“All is fair in love and war, Clementine.”

“Well,” she purred as she pulled her fingers away. “We are trending again.”

“Oh, yeah?” The subject about her family was harder on her that she wanted to admit. I’d caught just some of that in Jagger. What the hell was wrong with their father?

“Uh-huh. Even more speculation we’re married.”

“Well, we did tell everyone we were.”

“Yes, we did.”

She didn’t seem as negatively affected as before. “Well, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Would it?”

While I allowed her to curl her fingers, I was leaning in so I could continue inhaling her scent. Now all I wanted to do was paint my skin with it. “Cart before the horse, Roy boy.”

“You’re no fun.”

“I’m a lot of fun.”

“Maybe you need to prove it.”

“Oh, really?”

I nodded, lifting my eyebrows in a furrowed arch. “Oh, yeah, Clementine.”

She shifted her gaze while chewing on her lower lip. When she stood, I took a deep breath because knowing her, I could expect anything. Although when she walked away, my wolf was pushing me to keep from allowing her to escape.

Her sudden stop a few steps later was followed by another toss of her long hair. “I think it’s time Roy and Clementine stepped aside, allowing Cole and Chelsea to test their connection. Are you coming?”

“Not yet. But I plan on it.”

With a huff, she headed to the bathroom.

I remained right where I was, keeping a watchful eye on the fire as I threw back the rest of my drink.

I’d seen and sometimes laughed at the way Ford and Beck had acted after meeting their spouses.

They’d become crazed and I’d enjoyed watching two grown men who’d always been such arrogant bastards coming unraveled.

Over chicks. Okay, hot chicks, but still.

Now here I was, unable to ignore my most basic needs. I laughed, enjoying the moment of privacy while my balls swelled.

Maybe I would need to ask them for some advice on how to handle a wolf’s awakening.

As I rose to my feet, I was beginning to understand why my brothers had acted so insane.

Of all the things I’d experienced in my life, this should fuck me up more than anything. Maybe that’s what mating should do, but instead, I was feeling stronger, faster, and more alive than I’d ever felt.

Before I headed to the bathroom, I pounded my chest. Me, big he-man. Woman, mine.

Wait. Wrong movie.
