7. Just Two Bros

Chapter Seven

Just Two Bros

DYLAN

I felt like a computer stuttering to start up. This had to be some kind of crash in the system. This couldn’t possibly be real. I couldn’t actually be kissing my fated mate right now, after years and years of kissing wart-covered frogs.

I’d legitimately thought this wouldn’t happen, even after meeting Miles.

I could sense our intense connection from the moment we met but I wasn’t sure he, for some weird reason, felt the same.

Otherwise, we would have been kissing way sooner—hell, we’d have done way more than kissing by now.

That’s how fucking potent my draw to him was.

I could fuck him right here and right now, shouting out into the sky as he railed me, telling him how I’d ride him into the end of the damn world.

Or vice versa. I wasn’t picky. And, in the same breath, I’d lean down and kiss him with the passion fueled by a thousand fiery suns.

I’d never felt like that with any of my exes or hookups. No one. Never.

Only Miles.

And now his lips were on mine and his tongue swirled with mine and his hand squeezed my thigh and my dick started to drip with pre-cum and fuuuck this was game over.

The air sparked with a crackling energy, the sun beamed down as bright as a spotlight, the birds sang a song so damn harmonic and beautiful that it would have brought a tear to my eye if I wasn’t so fully preoccupied by the intense and all-consuming heat traveling from my lips straight down to my hardening cock.

I had no doubt now.

None whatsoever.

Miles was who I was meant to be with. It was written in the stars, whispered in the wind.

It felt as natural as breathing, being with Miles like this.

Like we’d done this a hundred thousand times before and still each time felt like the first. It also instantly erased any kind of worry-filled thoughts that had been plaguing me moments before.

Like he was the cure to something I never thought I could heal.

Something that not even my shifter genes could fully mend.

I could fix a broken bone in minutes but I still couldn’t really “fix” my anxiety-riddled thoughts.

“Fuck,” I said as we separated a moment for some air. “You’re an incredible kisser.”

He smirked at me, his eyes twinkling as bright as the tiny gold earrings he wore. He leaned in with a hand under my chin and said, “So are you.” Our lips crashed together again.

This was bliss. And I was quickly wanting more.

My cock throbbed against my leg. I could feel it inching out of my shorts, already having grown out of the confines of my jock.

Miles had a hand on my leg. I spread them wider, encouraging him to explore.

He took the bait. His hand moved higher, toward the pulsing need that I so desperately wanted him to grab.

His thumb grazed the head of my leaking cock—still mostly inside my shorts—and I moaned into the kiss.

He drank it up greedily, his tongue probing deeper into my mouth.

I crossed my arm over his and grabbed his leg, rubbing him, not wasting much time in moving up higher.

As lost as I was in this kiss, I was still very aware we were in a public park—albeit an empty one and in a secluded area, but still.

I knew we couldn’t exactly take our time out here even though that’s exactly what I wanted to do.

“Fuck,” Miles hissed as his hand reached my dick. He grabbed me through my shorts and stroked. I leaned back and watched as the fabric of my thin shorts strained, the head of my cock leaking against my thigh. “You’re huge.”

“Do you want to play with it?” I asked.

“Out here?”

I looked out from our tree-shielded sanctuary toward the quiet path. “It’s just us.” In case he needed any more encouragement, I tugged back my shorts and pulled out my dick. His eyes went wide and his grin grew to match. “God damn. That’s perfect.”

He reached over and held me firmly, rubbing a thumb over my leaking slit. A shiver of pleasure coursed through the entire length of my body. I tilted my head up at the bright blue sky, wondering how the hell life could be so good.

Also wondering how the hell he already had me so damn close.

“Stroke me, Miles,” I said, encouraging him. “Jerk off my big cock for me.”

He hesitated for the shortest of moments.

But then I noticed that he had also taken out his dick through the leg of his (very short) shorts.

My mouth started to water at the sight. He had just as nice a cock as mine.

Thick, pink, long, and dripping wet just like mine—both of us being shifters meant we leaked like broken faucets, and I fucking loved it.

Some of my past hookups had actually been turned off by how much pre-cum I made.

That always confused me since I found it to be so fucking hot.

I glanced back at the trail just to make sure no one was around. I’d be able to hear footsteps coming our way but all I heard was the chirping of birds and the beating of our hearts and the click, click, click of a bicycle wheel…

“Fuck,” I said, quickly sitting up. Miles must have heard it too. His smile faded as his grip disappeared off my cock and he tucked his back into his shorts. An instant yearning to have his warm fingers wrapped around me fought the logic that shouted to put my dick away before someone saw us.

Sure enough, moments later a biker slowly came down the trail, looking directly at us and giving us a friendly wave. The two of us waved back as innocently as possible.

“Nothing to see here,” I said as the biker passed. “Just two bros hanging out, talking about sports and shit.”

“That’s what we were doing?”

“Well, we were hanging out.”

“Yes, that we were,” Miles said mischievously.

I wanted to continue our handsy activities—and judging by the bulge in Miles’ shorts, he wanted the same—but the clicking of a bicycle wheel was replaced by the heavy breathing of a jogger following close behind.

Our private little nook in this public park seemed way more risky to play in than it had moments before.

“Guess we should probably head out then.” It was hard to not let the disappointment slip into my tone.

My body craved Miles’ touch in ways I hardly even understood.

Desperation was closest to what I’d describe it as.

I was left a desperate, horny, dripping mess.

I reached into my shorts and tucked my still stiff dick under the waistband of my jock and shorts, making sure it was hidden from view as I stood.

Miles did the same. I noticed there was a wet spot on the bench from where he had leaked pre-cum onto it. I irrationally wanted to clean it with my tongue.

Fuck, this man is driving me crazy. Wild. Fucking feral.

“This was a really nice spot,” Miles said. The unfinished business between us drove an awkward wedge through the air. I wanted to invite him back to my place, but would he be up for it?

“So, uh, what do you have planned for the rest of the day?” I asked as we walked back onto the public trail. The park had definitely started to fill up now that people were off work, eager to trade their corporate hamster wheels for a stroll through nature.

“Got some errands to run and probably going to finish building a dresser and a coffee table I just got delivered.”

There was my in. I had to take it. The slick drip against my thigh made me want to get behind closed doors immediately. “Need any help with that? I’m terrible at reading instructions but I’m great at holding pieces steady and drilling things.”

He chuckled at that. We walked close together.

I glanced to my side, admiring the way his five o’clock shadow and the shiny jewelry complemented his handsome face.

His dark brown hair was short and had a slight curl to it.

If he grew it longer, I was sure those curls would be glorious.

I wanted to run my hands through them and trace the lines of his jaw with my tongue.

I wanted to nibble on his earlobe, not caring if I tasted gold, just wanting to taste him.

“I’d like that…” He trailed off. Shit. There was a “but” incoming, I just knew it in the way his tone shifted.

“But.” Bingo. “I think it’s best I’m honest with you, Dyl.

I think you’re very attractive—clearly—and beyond that, your personality intrigues me.

You make me feel comfortable, and I don’t get that often.

I’m usually quiet and closed off, especially around people I just met.

But that’s different with you, and for that reason I need to be cautious. ”

“Oh?”

“I don’t want to cause any problems with my job, Dylan. I’m so sorry. I just can’t risk making a mistake this early.”

I winced at that. It hurt, hearing my supposedly fated mate call me a mistake.

He must have caught on because he put a hand on my elbow and stopped us from continuing forward.

He looked deep in my eyes and said, “You aren’t the mistake, just to be clear.

Falling for you right now would be the mistake.

Not because I don’t want it to happen, but because I already feel like it is, and that could end up with either losing my job or potentially making your teammates uncomfortable. I can’t risk that, Dylan. I’m sorry.”

Feels like it is…

“No need to apologize. I get all of that, trust me,” I said, trying hard to hide the sinking feeling in my chest. It was as if my stomach dropped and my heart went with it, leaving me empty inside.

How could this be happening? How could fate have gotten this so wrong?

It wasn’t a question for me: Miles was my fated mate.

I’d been dreaming of him since the moment we met, I could pick up his scent from miles—pun intended—away.

I didn’t just feel a flurry of butterflies around him, I felt a whole damn kaleidoscope of delicate wings flapping and tickling my insides.

And yet… he was pushing me away. For valid reasons, but I was still being turned down. And he said he was feeling like he was falling. But I already felt it. I’d already smacked against the ground but he was still floating toward it. That didn’t sound like a fated mate pull to me.

To make things even worse, I was going to have the biggest case of blue balls imaginable.

Fucking hell.

“Thank you for understanding,” Miles answered, hand still on my elbow.

“Of course.” We started walking again, his hand dropping back to his side. If I closed my eyes I was sure I could still trace the exact shape of his grip on my arm. He left a tingling mark of heat on me, the same way he had when he was stroking my cock for those blissful, short moments.

Something that would likely never happen again.

I held back a sigh. I truly was meant to be alone for the rest of my life. I’d have to come to terms with that at some point—the sooner the better. Because if the hands of fate couldn’t guide me in the right direction then I was just meant to hopelessly drift forever.

We reached the entrance of the park again.

The small talk between us—how nice the weather looked, how the park was filling up—ended once we reached the busy street.

“I’m that way,” Miles said, pointing in the opposite direction I was heading.

For a split second I thought of going his same way but quickly scrapped that idea.

No need to continue torturing myself by being in Miles’ presence longer than I needed to be.

“Thanks for today,” I said with a genuine gratitude that pushed past my disappointment. “Stopping my anxiety spiral. Means a lot.”

“Of course, and thank you for showing me your special spot.”

I would have shown you way more of my special spots if you’d brought me to your bedroom.

“Any time.” I gave him an awkward handshake that quickly turned into a hug. Having his body pressed against mine reignited the still-crackling embers. I let him go and was about to turn to leave but stopped myself.

“Hey,” I said, before we went our separate ways. “Random question, but have you ever heard of fated mates?”

Miles cocked his head. He arched a dark eyebrow. “I have. I know it’s rare and that it’s undeniable when it happens… Why?”

I gave an innocent shrug. “No reason. Just wondering. Anyway, see you at practice.”

I gave him a wave and walked off before he could dig any further.

Just two bros talking, that’s all we’d been. All we’d probably ever be.
