Chapter 18

We arrived at my house without another word spoken. I pulled into the garage beside my unopened furnishings, hidden locker, and tarp covered backup vehicle.

Rather than linger in the garage, knowing full well Jenna would no doubt be poking around, I led the girls straight into the house after grabbing Mimi’s luggage.

Mimi looked around with Barry held tightly against her boobs, facing outward like a second pair of eyes as she followed Cassie closely, with Monica darting into the kitchen to grab a drink.

I headed to the center island, rolled her luggage beside it, and dropped my keys on the counter before removing my holster, placing it beside them.

“Wow, Jaxon,” Jenna spoke while staring at the scant furnishings. “This is quite the uh, bachelor pad you got here.”

“He ain’t a bachelor anymore,” Monica commented with a full glass of milk, leaning back against the sink with a disapproving glare.

“And I’m assuming you’re his girlfriend?” Jenna flashed a sassy askance glance.

“For this moment? I’m his housekeeper, and I’m lookin’ at some trash that needs to go out.”

“Housekeeper?” Jenna blurted out before looking at me with an incredulous smile. “So what, you’re some kind of playboy?”

“No,” was all I said.

“He actually likes her,” Cassie interjected with her blue eyes looking at me. “And she likes him.”

Jenna took one look at Cassie with analytically suspicious eyes. “I saw you in the pictures, too. What’s your deal?”

“I’m his friend,” Cassie uttered.

“His friend?” Jenna repeated in an unimpressed tone.

“His best friend,” Cassie followed up with hands on her hips, leaning forward with a defensive scowl.

“Huh,” Jenna voiced with an eyeball twitch, then pointed at Monica. “So she’s sleeping with him, and you’re like… a third wheel?”

Cassie scoffed. “Not that it’s any of your business, but I’m involved in my own way.”

“So you are sleeping with him?”

“That’s not the point.”

“So… no,” Jenna deduced.

Cassie got testy. “Don’t act like you know me, bitch! I swallowed his cum before you showed up. Twice!”

Mimi gasped and scuttled over to Cassie. “You sucked his dick? That was the big secret I saw when I got back?”

“It was in the moment, we were just having fun,” Cassie retorted before cracking a smile at Mimi. “I’ll tell you about it later.”

“Damn good friend…” Jenna smirked with an air of triumph as the information was exposed. “I got the impression you were batting for the other team.”

Cassie crossed her arms and averted her eyes. “I don’t have to explain it to you. You wouldn’t get it anyway.”

“You’re probably right,” Jenna smarmed before gesturing at Mimi. “So what does that make you?”

“His date!” Mimi cheered.

Jenna blinked multiple times in abject confusion and then pushed the tips of her fingers against her flattened hand in a ’T’ shape. “Okay, time out, back up. What? Make this make sense to me.”

Mimi immediately launched into a happy rant.

“Well you see, Cassie set us up because I haven’t been on a date in a really long time, and he was single too but now he’s rich which means they have to keep the hussies away.

And everybody’s so horny since he saved their lives.

So Cassie made a pact with Momo, and Momo already gave him her hoo-ha, and I’m just happy he’s cute and not a creep!

He’s got enough points to have an extra life—I mean wife! ”

“Mimi?” Monica chimed in.

“Hmm?”

“Too much information!”

All I could do was sit there and lean in my palm while they had their little pow-wow.

Jenna nodded once, looked at me, then rolled her eyes. “And that stunt on the internet was what, kink?”

“And payback…” Monica clarified with a grin. “Now that he’s got ‘fuck you’ money, we went ahead and said fuck you.”

“Definitely kinky…” Mimi added with a smile.

I finally interjected, addressing the detective directly. “Alright, sleeping arrangements. There’s a couch I’ll bring in for you. And don’t bother sneaking around, or the deal is off.”

“Fine,” Jenna raised an eyebrow. “Got an extra blanket?”

“Not yet,” I said. “The girls have shopping to do.”

Cassie and Monica exchanged an excited squeal.

“I need something to cover up with,” Jenna insisted.

“Put the central air on any setting you want,” I said, picking up my keys to put them in my pocket.

“That’s not why,” Jenna replied, tapping her fingers on the counter. “I sleep naked.”

“Then sleep naked,” was all I said as I stepped toward the hallway.

Jenna narrowed her eyes. “Do you at least have a spare towel so I can shower?”

“Eh, cutting it close, but sure. I’ll toss mine into the dryer after I’m done.”

“I’m not sharing a towel!”

“We can share mine…” Monica said with a flirtatious gaze toward me as she finished the rest of her milk. “Co-shower?”

Jenna interrupted. “We need to talk about picking up my car tomorrow.”

“Sure. We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”

“That’s not what—” Jenna marched toward the living room with balled fists and an upward groan, then turned with a whip of her red ponytail. “At least tell me this. Have you been helping Muties all this time?”

“Only the ones I don’t kill,” I said with firm eye contact. “Towel’s in the master bathroom. Goodnight, Detective.”

Jenna held a long stance, nodded once, then made her way down the hall. I then turned my attention back to Cassie, Mimi, and Monica.

“Can I ask you a question?” Monica began.

“Shoot,” I said, delaying my trip to the garage to lean against the doorway.

“What do we need that bitch for? Can’t we just drop her in a ditch so she can’t bother us?”

“Killing a cop would complicate our lives. I might be immortal, but you’re not. And she actually does have a use.”

Monica squirmed. “I don’t mean kill her, I mean literally drop her in a ditch, drive off, and catch a plane.”

“Because there are others we need to handle first—and get more money.”

“More money?” Cassie breathed as she stepped around the island to lean her hip against the counter. “Fifty million isn’t enough?”

“Fifty million?” Mimi guffawed. “You could buy the biggest Christmas tree ever!”

“God, you’re cute…” I mused before answering Cassie while Monica looked on in confused but curious interest. “This guy who owns the warehouse we hit is gonna want to know who took his money, right?”

“Oh, yeah he’s definitely gonna want his lick back…” Monica remarked.

“Right,” I nodded. “So, we make life harder for him. Rob the bastard blind until he gives up his associates. Get him out in the open. First we empty his coffers, then we put him in a coffin.”

“As horny as that makes me,” Monica said with a chuffed smile. “I don’t know all his locations.”

“You don’t,” I then pointed down the hall where Jenna went. “She does.”

Cassie’s gorgeous blues lit up with realization. “You’re gonna use her case files…”

“More or less,” I said, looking at the goth beauty standing across from me. “I haven’t gone over all of the footage, but I know he was moving Mutables. That means Mimi is at risk until we burn his network to the ground.”

Mimi’s eyes lifted with a hopeful, open mouth smile.

Cassie narrowed a single eyebrow, “I thought you said you had secret friends.”

“I know some people who owe me one, yes,” I confirmed with a cocky grin. “I’ve been waiting for an inside track. We can wipe the slate clean and get a fresh start.”

Cassie and Monica exchanged a look of subdued enthusiasm, and then Monica set her cup down to walk over toward us.

“So you’re gonna flip the script?” she asked.

“Yup. Some bad guys get to die, and we’ll have the means to do whatever the fuck we want, wherever the fuck we want. Forever,” I meeting Mimi’s gaze, who was standing there with hands clasped in a hopeful prayer pose. “You’re already involved, so you’re welcome to tag along.”

“Yes!” Mimi clapped excitedly before setting Barry on the counter and gripping her bright pink fringes. “I don’t know what to do… we have to celebrate!”

“Now?” I asked.

“I was already a night owl, but now I’m way too wired to fall asleep!” Mimi said with rapid nods and bouncing boobs.

“There’s a hot tub in the back,” I conceded with a chuckle. “I’m grabbing the couch and closing my eyes. I’ll catch you girls later.”

All three women immediately made off in a close-knit gaggle as they hurried on their way past me. Cassie stopped to look at me like I’d just invented the cure for every disease imaginable, and then leaned forward to give my cheek a quick kiss.

“Talk later?” she asked.

“Later,” I nodded.

“Okay,” she replied in a hushed whisper, then went off.

Monica was far less restrained, and straight up cupped my junk on her way down the hall. Mimi stopped, waiting for the other girls to get out of sight before gazing at me with those beautifully mismatched eyes, and then wrapped her arms around me to offer a hug.

“Thank you,” she said.

“No problem,” I replied, returning the hug with one hand on the small of her back.

“No really,” she said as we parted. “Thank you. I’ve always been me, but now I really get to be me—if that makes any sense.”

I returned her look of joy with a smile of my own. “You know, I think it does.”

“Good—and don’t fall asleep! I’m pretty sure they’re not done with you.”

“How can you tell?” I wondered, looking from her eyes to her lips.

“Because I’m not done with you,” Mimi said in all seriousness before sauntering away with a look over her shoulder. “Sweet dreams…”

Needless to say, the girls were very happy. Once they’d found their way into the hot tub, there was nothing for me to do except ruminate about my next move in private.

After single-handedly dragging the couch out of the garage and into the living room, I waited outside of my bedroom, leaning against the door as Jenna showered in my en suite, no doubt using the last dry towel I had, as the girls were using what they had for the hot tub.

The water ran for longer than I was expecting, causing me to wonder if she was up to something. Before I could think to go in and check, the shower turned off.
