Chapter 6 The Wedding

Pei Du said we had to wait, but the process moved quickly.

When I met his parents and elder brother and sister-in-law, I greeted them obediently one by one, yet I still received strange looks.

His parents said nothing. His sister-in-law smiled warmly. Only his elder brother kept looking at me and sighing.

Later, in private, I asked Pei Du, “Does your elder brother have some dissatisfaction with me?”

Pei Du and his brother had quite an age gap. I once heard a servant mention that the Eldest Master was originally the only son, but he became obsessed with mystical arts. Fearing he would abandon worldly affairs for cultivation, his parents had Pei Du.

As a result, Pei Du was only five years older than his nephew.

But how their relationship was, I didn’t know.

Pei Du replied lightly, “Don’t mind him. He once showed me a daughter from a prestigious family. I refused, so he’s acting this way.”

Hearing the reason, I complained, “We already had an engagement. How could he do that?”

“Exactly.”

Pei Du gently stroked my cheek and smiled softly. “So before the wedding, keep your distance from him, alright?”

I nodded obediently and focused on preparing for the marriage.

The wedding day arrived soon enough.

After the exhausting rituals, on our wedding night, Pei Du lifted the red veil from my head.

One look at him, and my face burned.

He had always been fair and refined, with an outstanding figure. Dressed in red robes, his features looked even more striking, like a painting.

From now on, this was my husband.

Grandfather’s judgment had been sharp. When he came to treat their family years ago, Pei Du was still so young, yet Grandfather had seen he was someone worth entrusting my life to.

On his deathbed, Grandfather told me we had met and played together as children, which was why he arranged this match.

Later I had a high fever and forgot many things.

After drinking the nuptial wine and removing the heavy wedding clothes, I asked him, “Pei Du, do you still remember things from when we were little?”

Pei Du’s movements paused slightly. A barely noticeable smile curved his lips.

“It was too long ago. I can’t remember clearly.”

My body suddenly felt light as he lifted me onto his lap.

He stared at me, his pupils deep and dark.

“Why bring up childhood all of a sudden?”

After I told him about the fever and my lost memories, he patted my head.

“If you don’t remember, then don’t. We’ll look to the future.”

I nodded.

As my husband’s handsome face drew closer, I gently closed my eyes.

Soft, slightly cool lips touched mine.

My body trembled. A ticklish sensation spread from my lips to my heart, then through my limbs.

Pei Du noticed my reaction and gently patted my back.

“Don’t be afraid.”

The warm breath on my face grew quicker. He called my name in a low voice.

“Wen Xueyi, open your mouth.”

I obeyed and parted my lips.

The next moment, a hot tongue carrying the taste of wine surged in, sending shivers of numbness through me.

Then came an overwhelming storm.

When it finally calmed, I closed my eyes, ready to sleep—only to be pulled back into his arms.

His voice turned seductive. “One more time, may I?”

I nodded instinctively.

But… hadn’t people said he wasn’t lustful?

No time to think. I was drawn into another whirlwind.
