Chapter 79

I shake my head. “It’s fine. I can get home okay. Nothing’s going to happen to me.”

Let’s hope. This has been enough adventure for one day.

But today isn’t over yet.

Sterling helps me stand, hovering like he wants to take over or—dear God—carry me. I’d probably faint a second time if he tried, but I definitely wouldn’t stop him.

“It won’t because you’re going to get in this car and let me drive you home.”

Blood rushes to my cheeks so fast that I can’t hide it, and it doesn’t help that he’s standing so close. The deep edge of his voice stirs up a burning heat between my thighs, and I hope to hell he’s doing it on purpose because I’m about two seconds away from throwing myself at him.

Warm breath gusts over my ear. “That wasn’t a request.”

Oh fuck.

I slip into his passenger seat and let him fuss over the temperature. Let’s hope he drives fast.
