Chapter 14 #3
“I think it’s just my father keeping the feud alive in his head.
And no, he doesn’t know who the baby’s father is, or he would have killed me instead of sending me here.
I shouldn’t have slept with him in the first place, but the attraction was instant between us.
I guess we just couldn’t help ourselves.
Plus, there is the fact that our relationship was based solely on sex.
I wanted to give someone other than my intended husband my virginity, and well, who knows why he did it, besides the sex. ”
“Damn, that’s a lot more complicated than I would have guessed.”
“You’re telling me,” I murmur, laughing at the absurdity of it all. “Tell me about you now. How long have you had a crush on a certain Father of the church?”
“What? Who said anything about a crush?” she asks. “There’s no crush. No one is crushing on anyone.”
“Oh, really? So, you wouldn’t care if I said I saw one of the girls cozying up to Father Andrews earlier today?”
“What? Who? I’m going to cut a bitch!” She huffs, and I laugh.
“You were saying?” I ask with a quirk of my brows.
“That was mean. Fine. Since I’ve been here,” she says, blushing. “Now tell me, was there really someone cozying up to my man?”
“Nope.”
“Bitch!”
“Right back at you! I just wanted you to admit it. He’s hot, and you two would make a cute couple,” I tell her, giggling.
“Right! I just somehow have to convince him of that,” she grumbles. “So far, all my attempts at flirting have gone unnoticed. He’s like an impenetrable wall.”
“Keep trying until you wear him down. The best things in life come after fighting for them.”
“That’s my plan,” she says with a huge smile. We spend the rest of the day talking until it’s time for dinner, after which we head to bed early.
Time sure does fly. At least that’s how I’m feeling today.
But in actuality, living at this convent has felt like an eternity.
In the months since I’ve been here, it hasn’t gotten better at all.
There are only so many times you can do the same thing over and over before you want to pull all your hair out.
I’ve made it to the six-month mark, and my stomach is big and round. It definitely looks like a soccer ball.
My baby girl is heavy, and my back is always aching. But even with all the aches and pains in my back and feet, I’m super excited to meet her. I can’t wait to give birth, and I already love her so much.
She likes to move around and kick me. Most of the time, I feel like she’s sleeping on my bladder, but I’ve been loving the experience so far.
I’ve put all my focus into her, but my mind always strays back to Enzo.
I always wonder what and how he’s doing.
I also wish he were here with me to experience this.
I look up as my door opens, and Isa walks in.
“How are you and baby girl doing today?”
“I’m fine, but she’s extra happy or something today. She keeps moving around in there.”
“Hey there, baby girl! It’s Auntie Isabella. I need you to behave for Mommy today,” she says, talking to my stomach while rubbing it. She gets a kick to her hand, and she smiles a big one. “Naughty little girl.”
“She must take after her father.” I laugh.
“She loves me! She always kicks when I talk to her.”
“Of course she loves her Auntie Isa,” I tell her, and the biggest grin crosses her face.
“You have about three months until you give birth. Do you have any idea what you’re going to do yet?”
“Nope.”
She’s right. I only have three months left, give or take a few days, and I still haven’t made any plans on what I’m going to do.
My father didn’t send me here with any money, and I didn’t get a chance to grab the bank card that Luca opened for me.
I have nothing. I don’t even have my passport or ID cards.
He just pays the sisters to get whatever I need, which I’m actually surprised about.
I thought he’d just forget about me until I gave birth.
I guess Father knew that by sending me here without a dime, I wouldn’t be able to run away. I have no clue what I’m going to do, because I’m not letting him get his hands on her. This is just another thing that’s majorly stressing me out.
“Come on, it’s time to go. No more moping around here today,” Isa says, breaking me out of my thoughts.
“Go where?”
“I set up a day out for us so that we can get some baby clothes for Little Nugget,” she tells me, smiling.
“You’re the best. So thoughtful and I love you, but I don’t have any money, remember?”
“This trip is on me. This is my auntie's duty.”
“But—”
“Nope. Don’t want to hear it. Let’s go,” she says, grabbing my hand and dragging me behind her.
The driver and Sister Mary accompany us on our outing, and they stay in the car again, which suits us just fine. We head for one of the small baby shops that isn’t too far from the doctor’s office, and we chat a bit as we browse around.
“I’m scared,” I say.
“Scared of what?” she asks.
“Scared of having this baby. What if something goes wrong?”
“Nothing will go wrong. You’re going to deliver a healthy baby girl, and you’re going to be fine too.”
“I hope so, but I’m still so nervous. I’ve been thinking about this, and I need you to promise me something.”
“Anything.”
“You’re most likely going to be in the delivery room with me if I’m still here when the time comes.
Promise me that if something happens to me, you’ll grab her from the hospital and keep her safe.
Promise me you’ll find Enzo and tell him about her.
I’ll give you all the details later so you’ll know.
Or if you can’t find him, or he… he doesn’t want her, please keep her safe for me.
I know it’s a lot to ask, but I don’t want her to end up anywhere near my father. ”
“You are going to be fine, but I’ll promise you just in case… If I can’t find him, I’ll make sure to hide her away so that your father will never get his hands on her,” she says sincerely.
“Thank you. You have no idea how much it means to me that you would do that.”
I’ve decided that as soon as I give birth, I’m running away with her. Now, I can breathe a little easier knowing that if something does happen to me during childbirth, Isa will take care of my baby.
We continue shopping and end up with some onesies, cute dresses, newborn diapers, and other small items. We only took about an hour or so.
I swear I feel as though there are eyes on me when we step out of the store, but when I discreetly look around, I don’t see anything out of the ordinary or anyone I know.
After heading back, we chill in my room for the rest of the afternoon until it’s dinner time. When we’re finished eating, we both head to our own rooms for the night since I’m kind of exhausted from all the moving about today. I get tired easily these days.
I lie in bed for a while, reading a book to pass the time until I’m ready to fall asleep. I start to feel sleepy, and when I look at the clock, I see that it’s close to midnight. Wow! I’ve been reading for a few hours already. Nothing feels better than getting lost in a book.
I get up and pee again since baby girl is still on my bladder, and then get into bed. I turn off the lights and then slip under the covers. In no time, I’m fast asleep.
