Chapter 12 Successful Surgery

Xie Mingming's Surgery was a success.

The heavy stone pressing on my heart finally dropped.

During that stretch of time, Zhou Muyan and I took turns caring for Xie Mingming. Neither of us brought up the past again.

Xie Mingming recovered fast. In a few more days, he should have been able to leave the Hospital.

My mom found out and looked forward to us coming home every single day.

I still hadn't told Xie Mingming about leaving him with the Zhou Family.

The Zhou Family had money, but he had grown up by my side. He was used to that.

Clearly, there was still some distance between him and Zhou Muyan.

Just past eight in the morning, Mother Zhou arrived at the Hospital right on time.

She took the breakfast from the nanny and set it in front of me.

"Eat something first."

I was changing Xie Mingming's clothes and didn't even look up.

"Mm. Leave it. We'll eat in a bit."

Mother Zhou sat down.

"You really care about this Child. Back when you and Zhou Muyan were together, I even tried to stop it.

"If I had known it would turn out like this, why did I do any of those things?

"Zhou Muyan hated me for five years. He refused to find anyone. He refused to marry. He was dead set on getting back at me.

"But I'm his mother. Everything I did was for his own good. He wouldn't take over the family business and insisted on making his way outside. I only wanted to teach him a lesson..."

Through Mother Zhou's words, I roughly understood what had happened back then.

They wanted to force Zhou Muyan home, so they suppressed his company. They might even have used me to threaten him.

Pushed hard enough, Zhou Muyan could only pull away from me and promise them he wouldn't marry me.

So even if I hadn't broken up with Zhou Muyan back then, I still couldn't have walked through the Zhou Family doors.

"Auntie, you knew from the very start that I was Xie Mingming's Mom, didn't you?"

A flicker of embarrassment passed through Mother Zhou's eyes. "Zhou Muyan already told me. You don't like him anymore. We were the narrow-minded ones."

I smiled and said nothing more.

The day before Xie Mingming was discharged, I went to get the doctor's signature.

Mother Zhou, who usually arrived at the Hospital at eight sharp every day, didn't show up for some reason.

When I got back to the Ward, it was empty.

"Xie Mingming?"

I searched the entire floor and still saw no sign of Xie Mingming.

Bad possibilities rose in my mind at once.

Xie Mingming had gone missing once when he was three. In the space of a turn, he was gone.

That was the first time I hit him.

Afterward I regretted it and was terrified.

Now that same fear came rushing back.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Zhou Muyan with trembling hands.

"Xie Mingming is gone."
