Chapter 5

Chapter Five

Xan was constantly surprising me. I smiled, waking up at predawn with my mate pressed up against my back. His large palm holding my left breast possessively, even in sleep. Through the window, I could see the tree line and sensed movement. My body tensed.

“Good morning.” He nuzzled my neck.

I closed my eyes and forgot about the anomaly in the woods, assuming it was one of the pack guarding the perimeters. “It’s not quite morning yet.”

“How do you feel?”

The room was beginning to brighten, but I knew what he was asking.

I tossed the blanket aside and straddled his body.

We’d cleaned up the kitchen after eating the steaks and salad, then talked for what seemed like hours.

When I couldn’t keep my eyes open, he’d carried me to bed, stripped me out of the borrowed clothes, and refused to make love to me.

Now, I had him under me and at my mercy. I wouldn’t be taking no for an answer.

“I’m all healed, and horny.” I whispered.

His hands came up, rubbing my nipples. “Whatcha gonna do about it?”

I was eager to try everything. I slid down his body, pressing kisses on his chest, and nipping at the small, flat discs of his nipples. “You’re playing with fire.” I looked up with my teeth holding the little bit of flesh, humming. “Just remember, I will get my turn with you.”

Xan spread his legs and made room for me as I knelt between them.

I used both hands, running them up and down the hard shaft, making him growl.

His erection was so large I couldn’t encompass the entire thing with both hands.

I swiped my tongue over the tip, taking the pearly fluid into my mouth.

His heartfelt groan was music to my ears.

“Fuck, I won’t last.”

I sucked him into my mouth, licking, nibbling, and working my hands at the same time. I didn’t have any experience, but what I lacked I hoped I made up for with enthusiasm. He seemed to agree, his dick getting harder and bigger, filling my mouth.

“Damn, woman.” He pumped his hips.

I swallowed on my own groan, tasting his salty essence, and felt his orgasm build as his balls drew up tight. I was sure he was about to come when he reached down and pulled me up by my shoulders.

“What the heck?” I asked in disappointment.

“I need to be in you. We have the rest of our lives to taste each other.”

I started to suggest we try the sixty-nine position, but Xan had other ideas. He lifted me effortlessly. The tip of his cock brushed my entrance. “Are you wet and ready, or do you need me to make sure?”

“Damn you, don’t make me wait.”

He entered me slowly, guiding me down on him, our lovemaking slow and sweet.

He moved his hips, rocking me back and forth, then backward again.

My hands found purchase on his chest, then I leaned forward and kissed him.

He felt even bigger and harder in this position.

His hand slid between our bodies and brushed his thumb over my clit.

I screamed as his touch shot through me.

His low, sultry laugh made me bite his lip.

“What was that for?”

“You’re so cocky.” I writhed on his cock as he flicked his thumb back and forth, sending me over the edge.

“I have a reason to be,” he grunted.

I tried to focus on his words, but with his fingers and cock working their magic, I couldn’t do anything but come.

I collapsed on top of him, then jerked as he lifted and flipped me onto my back.

His movements became frenzied as his come shot out.

I felt his canines bite into the mating mark, igniting another climax, then he licked the spot.

“Mine,” I growled and bit him.

“Yours. My Brielyn Breezy Mattice, soon to be Carmichael.” He brushed the hair back from my face.

“Is that your subtle way of asking me to marry you?” I licked my lips, staring up at my mate’s dark eyes.

“You need roses and chocolate?”

I loved him. “I just need you.”

“You’ve got me. I’ll always be here. Protecting you and our cubs will be my main priority.”

My head turned toward the window. “I saw the guards in the woods. I don’t know how comfortable I am with them being so close. I’m glad your windows are tinted.”

He growled. “When did you see them?”

“When I first woke. I looked out and noticed movements along the tree line. I assumed you knew.”

Easing out of me, Xan sat up. I assumed he was contacting Kellen. “There are no guards this close to my home. Are you sure it wasn’t an animal?”

“I know the difference between man and animal, Xan.” I pulled the sheet over my naked breasts, feeling suddenly exposed.

Xan let out a deep breath. “I’m sorry. Shit. I need to go check the perimeter.”

I gave him a sharp look. “I don’t think you should go alone.”

“You’ll be safe inside the house. Lock the doors, set the alarm, and if you feel threatened, you shift. You call for help, and you stay safe. Feel me?”

I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “All right. I could go with you, though.”

He kissed me hard and fast. “I’d be worried about you.” Meaning he wouldn’t be able to focus on the task at hand. “I’ll whip up some crepes. I’m sure you have the things I need for them.”

He stood and walked to the door while I pulled his shirt over my head. “Walk me to the back door and then do as I said. Kellen is on his way from his side. If there was someone here that shouldn’t have been, we would know. If they are still here,” he trailed off.

On the other side of the door, I knew there could be trouble.

Humans weren’t known for being straight-up fighters.

While Xan and Kellen would attack their enemies head-on, the men who had chased me would use anything at their disposal.

“I know what’s going on in your mind. You’re what’s important, so stay safe inside these walls. ”

“Fine, but if you get hurt, I will be so mad.” I struggled for breath through my fears.

Xan’s voice was gentle as he kissed me one last time. “I’ll be back before you can burn the pancakes.”

“Crepes.” I corrected him.

“Real men eat pancakes.” He opened the door to the back and slid out noiselessly. His nudity was a non-issue as he shifted into the large wolf. He turned, clearly waiting to see if I followed his orders and locked the door.

I waited for Breezy to lock up the house, and then I went hunting.

When I’d listened to her talk of someone being near the tree line, I’d known instantly something was wrong, and I was glad I’d paid extra for the double-pane windows with the tint.

I looked forward to killing the fucks who dared to enter my land.

My muscles bunched in the body of my wolf, stopping next to the trees that bordered the land with the best view of my bedroom.

I swiveled my head in the direction of the log home, filtering sun glinting off the windows.

The smell of vegetation and animals was overlaid with a faint trace of another.

I realized we weren’t dealing with an average human.

Not a shifter, but someone skilled at hunting and hiding.

I turned to see the big black wolf stalking toward me. “Smell that?” I asked Kellen through our connection.

Kellen’s head nodded. “I tracked several other unfamiliar scents along the border separating our properties. Faint but there. You thinking what I am?”

The suppressed growl broke free. “They were here waiting, watching. The question is who they want and why. There’s no way they knew Breezy was with me. Unless we were followed.”

I thought back to the ride back the night before. I’d been focused on Breezy, but I was sure that if there had been a vehicle behind us, Kellen would’ve noticed. “There was nobody trailing us.” Kellen’s eyes dared me to question his words.

I nodded. That was the good thing about the alpha. If he said he knew something, it wasn’t him being boastful. It was factual. “Have you talked to the guards that were stationed out here last night and this morning?”

The glitter in Kellen’s eyes let me know I wasn’t going to like the answer.

“They didn’t see or hear a thing. Actually, since their orders were to stay far enough away, they wouldn’t accidentally see the two of you.

If you decided to step outside nekkid, they wouldn’t have been this close. ” Kellen’s tone held a hint of steel.

I got the meaning. From this point on, we all needed to be on guard, even on our own property. “Breezy’s my mate.”

“No shit. I felt it when you connected. Alpha, remember?” If a wolf could roll its eyes, I was sure Kellen just did.

“Of course, oh great one.” Kellen’s wolf bumped me in the side, and I looked up to see we’d circled back to the spot we’d met in.

“Did you notice there were no tracks?”

Kellen nodded. “We are definitely dealing with a professional hunter, or someone who has been trained on how to evade our kind.”

Trepidation sent anxiety through me. If the ones who had attacked the club a couple of weeks back and nearly wiped us out were behind this and now backed by humans who didn’t have a qualm about using guns and the like, we’d need to call in reinforcements.

Not to mention we’d all need to change our own security measures.

When we fought other wolves, there was an unwritten rule of conduct.

A line wolves didn’t cross, and that was you didn’t bring a gun to a fang and claw fight.

“I’m calling a meeting with the MC. You go back to your mate. We’ll meet at the club in an hour, so no time for any bowchicawowow.” Kellen raced off, silent as the shadow he became.
