53. Chapter 53
Nick
“Lydia May, if you do not hurry your pretty ass up, we are going to be late. And you hate being late!” I shout from my spot on the couch.
Technically, we won’t be late. I may have told her we need to be at Norah’s birthday party at six instead of six-thirty, knowing she’d be a little nervous, though unnecessarily. That part’s on me.
We’ve only hung out with my family a handful of times since we’ve officially been together, even though we’ve been invited to just about everything. I know I need to stop being selfish with her, but sometimes I can’t help it. I waited a long time for someone like Lydia to come into my life.
As much as I love keeping her to myself, I’m excited for my family to really get to know her.
She’s the best person I know. My family is a close second.
Lydia told me more than once how much she misses having a family.
She doesn’t have siblings, and after things fell apart with her mom and stepdad, there hasn’t been anyone solid in her life. But that’s all changing now.
She’s been spending more time with Ellie and Sam, and she and Coco have hung out a few times too.
She spends most nights at my place, though I’ve been starting to think of it as our place now.
When she does go back to her house, she always stops in to see Rita.
The old woman lights up when Lydia walks in.
I’ve tagged along a few times and get a kick out of her flashy outfits and spitfire attitude.
Tonight is Norah’s birthday party at my mom’s house. While it was just going to be the normal family group, a few guys from the shop, and Marcus from Norah’s office, Norah texted me to let me know Ben, her ex-husband and Abby’s dad, will also be there.
I’m not sure what’s happening there, and when I asked, Norah said she’d fill me in later.
I hope maybe they’re on their way to a reconciliation, but it isn’t really my place to ask.
Ben is a great guy and a good dad to Abby.
Their divorce was amicable, and Ben and I are still good buddies.
He’s a deputy here in town, and he’s the one I contacted about extra patrols around Lydia’s house when her ex came around.
“Does this look alright?” Lydia asks as she walks in and gives a small twirl. She’s wearing jeans that hug her ass and thighs perfectly, and a light blue sweater that makes her eyes look incredible. She’s left her hair loose and wild, wearing just a hint of makeup.
God, she’s stunning.
I get up and walk toward her, reaching out to touch her cheek as soon as I’m close enough. “You’re beautiful, Lydi,” I say, leaning down to kiss her just behind her ear, then murmur against her skin, “and you smell really good too.”
I want to nibble on her neck right here, knowing how much she likes it, but also knowing if I do, we for sure won’t make it to the party. Maybe we don’t have to go after all…
Lydia gives a small, sexy moan and leans into the kiss. She really loves when I kiss her here. It probably won’t take much persuasion to get her to stay—
She shoves me lightly, laughing.
“I know what you’re doing, Mr. Fulsom, and it won’t work. Come on. I’m anxious to see your family, and we got Abby those coloring books at the bookstore the other day. I’m excited to give them to her.”
I loved that she thought to get Abby a gift too.
My little munchkin is going to love her present.
When we went shopping for Norah’s present yesterday, Lydia mentioned wanting to get Abby something as well, but wasn’t sure what.
When we saw the coloring books, we both agreed they were perfect.
We even picked up some new pencils and markers.
Lydia bends to put her shoes on, using my shoulder to keep her steady. I kneel to tie them for her, kissing each of her ankles as I do. When I stand up, she looks me up and down appreciatively.
“You look really handsome. Very yummy,” she says, swiping her tongue over her lips. I don’t think she even realizes she’s done it. My dick twitches a little in my pants.
I’m wearing jeans and a white button-down with my sleeves rolled to my elbows. I love when she looks at me like this. It makes me feel seen and wanted. Something I know I have been looking for but haven’t realized just how badly I wanted it until Lydia.
I stand for a minute longer, letting her look her fill, and then reach for her, pulling her to me by the front of her sweater.
“Let’s go to this party. Let’s eat the food and hang out with my family as long as you want.
We’ll sing and eat cake, then we will sneak out the back door and come back here, and I’m going to take every piece of clothing off you and kiss every inch of your body.
How’s that sound?” I give her another quick peck before leaning back to look at her.
Her eyes have gone hazy with anticipation, and she smiles. “That sounds like the perfect plan, but only if I get to kiss every inch of you right back.”
We walk toward the front door of the house. I grab the gift bags from the island as we go, one hand holding the bags, the other holding Lydia’s. I stop just as we reach the door, shifting the bags into the same hand as hers and using my free hand to open it.
She laughs beside me. “You can let go of my hand, Nick. It’s okay.”
I lean down, kiss her softly, and murmur, “I’m never letting go of your hand, pretty girl. Ever.”
