Chapter 13

This was what he needed, Silas decided. Enough of the petty bullshit.

Steve was never going to notice me like that, especially now that he's found his mate.

What was I thinking? If the future alpha is happy to let his mate take his time and room with his friend, who am I to judge?

Two bedrooms there, both obviously occupied.

Besides, Steve's wolf would have scented another guy on his man if they'd been up to anything.

Just me and my jealousy, again. Time to find my own man.

No more wanting guys I can't have and getting bent out of shape over them.

Silas sipped his cocktail absently, swirling the straw about. When a tall, muscular god of a man slipped up to the bar next to him and flashed him a brilliant smile, he knew his luck was about to turn.

“Hi there,” the man said. “I'm Jeff.”

“Hi yourself, Jeff. I'm Si.”

Jeff turned to the bartender as he approached and ordered himself a beer, then gestured towards Silas' drink. “And another of those for my friend here.”

“Thank you,” Silas beamed.

Jeff waved his thanks off. “Don't worry about it. Is it always like this here? My first time here. My buddy and I heard about this place and thought we'd check it out.”

“Yeah, it's always hopping like this.”

Jeff grimaced. “This is more my friend's scene than mine. I like it a bit quieter.”

“I must admit I come here to forget things myself. I like to get to know people in a more one on one setting,” Silas said.

A man detached himself from the crowd on the dance floor. “Not gonna dance with me?” he pouted at Jeff.

Jeff gave a lazy smile. “Naw, you know me. Rob, this is Si. Si and I were just talking about how someplace quieter is a better option for really getting to know someone.”

Rob rolled his eyes. “I wanna dance some more. Why don't you have a few more drinks? If you still wanna go then, we can go grab something to eat.”

Rob grabbed Jeff's beer and gulped it down. “Laters!” he headed back to the dance floor.

Jeff sighed. “Know any good diners around here? I could murder a stack of waffles.”

Silas looked thoughtful. “Yeah, there's one not too far from here. Waffles sound good. I didn't eat much before heading over here.”

“Me neither. Got off work and Rob was all 'Let's go!' I should have said no and eaten first.”

Silas laughed. “Well, hopefully he won't be too long. Don't want you starving to death or anything.”

Jeff grinned in response.

Gawd, look at the dimple!

Time seemed to pass quickly as Silas and Jeff bantered back and forth. It seemed no time at all before Rob wandered back.

“I think you found the only cute guy in the whole place,” he pouted.

Silas blushed.

“Si here was saying he hadn't eaten yet either and he knows a great place to grab some waffles or a burger or whatever,” Jeff said.

“Yeah, okay. Whatever. I could eat,” Rob replied.

“It's not far from here,” Silas said. “We could walk.”

“Sounds perfect.”

Just how not perfect it was became perfectly obvious less than half an hour later. The trio were just passing a poorly lit empty parking lot when Silas felt Jeff seize his arm while Rob pushed his body against him as if to herd him in the direction Jeff was trying to pull him.

“What the...?”

Dark area, secluded... Oh hell no! You thought to trick a trickster, huh?

I'll show you! Silas played along, letting them drag him further into the darkened parking lot.

As they forced him down to his knees, he reached out and grabbed their sleeves.

Giving them an evil grin, he focused and popped them Underhill.

“Dark enough for you boys here?” he asked, suddenly not so pliant and overcome.

“What the fuck?” Rob exclaimed.

“Only fucking is going to be me fucking you over,” Silas said. “I was already having a shit day, having to deal with that rotten meat and all that, but you just had to go make it worse, eh? Least you can do is give me some sport.”

Jeff was looking about wildly, taking in the abrupt change of scenery. “I don't know what you've done, but you stop this right now,” he growled.

“I think not. As to what I've done,” Silas said, standing up haughtily, “I've brought you Underhill, to the Unsidhe Court. “

“Un-she what?”

Silas smiled once more. “Unsidhe Court. Welcome to Faerie, lads. Now,” he dropped his voice conspiratorially, “run.”

The two men stared at Silas uncomprehending until a rustle from nearby bushes prompted them to look. Seeing what was coming out of the brush, they ran.

“That's more like it,” Silas crowed as he watched Court sentry beetles give chase. “You wanted a bit of sport, and we're giving it to ya. Run as fast as ya can, scumbags!”
