Epilogue

Mila

Three weeks later.

Washington, D.C.

I stand in the hallway outside a secured briefing room, arms crossed, watching as everything we uncovered continues to ripple outward.

Investigations.

Arrests.

Names falling one after another.

The Ascendancy didn’t fall.

Not completely.

But we cracked it.

Exposed it.

And now—

They’re running.

Which means we’re coming.

Footsteps approach.

I don’t have to turn to know it’s him.

Jase stops beside me.

Close.

Always close.

“You ready for this?” he asks.

I glance at him.

A small smile pulling at my lips.

“When am I not?”

He huffs quietly.

“Fair point.”

The door opens.

Ethan steps out.

Ethan Cross

His expression is calm.

Focused.

But there’s something underneath it now.

Something personal.

“Briefing’s in ten,” he says. “New operation.”

I raise an eyebrow.

“That didn’t take long.”

Ethan’s gaze shifts between us.

Then settles.

“This one’s different.”

Jase crosses his arms.

“How?”

Ethan exhales once.

“They’re not just running anymore.”

A beat.

“They’re regrouping.”

Yeah.

That tracks.

“Where?” I ask.

Ethan’s jaw tightens slightly.

“Multiple locations.”

Of course.

Because it’s never simple.

Never easy.

But then he adds—

“And we’ve got a lead.”

Now I’m interested.

Ethan glances back toward the room.

Then at me.

“You’re going to want in on this one.”

Jase looks at me.

I look at him.

And just like that—

We’re already in.

No question.

No hesitation.

Because this isn’t over.

Not even close.

And this time?

We’re not just reacting.

We’re hunting.

Jase’s hand finds mine.

Familiar.

Steady.

Unshakable.

“Together?” he asks quietly.

I lace my fingers through his.

Always.

“Always.”
