Chapter 11

Maisy

I can’t believe this is happening again. It cannot be happening again. This is my biggest fear. My most shattering heartbreak. And I’m reliving it.

My teeth lock into place and I blink hard a few times to will away any tears. This is not happening. I am not waiting in a hotel room again for Bo to show up.

The phone call we had after leaving Percival’s plays loudly in mind.

“Meet me at the hotel I’m about to text you. It looks like this snow is not letting up.”

“I know. I can hardly see ten meters ahead of me.”

“Just drive carefully, Maisy.”

“I will. I just wish we were driving together.”

“I know. But don’t worry. I’ll see you soon. Nothing’s going to stop me from getting to you, baby.”

I check the clock on my phone for the millionth time. It’s almost midnight, and he’s still not here.

My heart is in my throat, and I’m working hard to swallow it back down, tell it to return to its rightful home. This is not what it seems. It can’t be. It just cannot be true that he’s standing me up again. I have to trust him, no matter how hard this is.

Mani-fucking-station. If ever there was a time to manifest something, it’s now. I need him.

But my mind is only giving me two options: he’s bailed on me again, or something has happened to him. I feel like a shitty person believing either one.

So even if tonight breaks me, I’ll believe that he’s coming to me.

But he doesn’t come. I can’t control anything. I’m not enough.

Those are the life-giving thoughts I fall asleep to.

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

“Maisy! Open up.”

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

“For the love of everything holy, baby, please open this door.”

My heart is flapping around inside my body, but I can’t tell if it’s flapping new wings like a baby bird trying to take flight, or if it’s flapping wings like a Canadian goose in preparation to fight.

Doesn’t matter. I fling open the door.

“Bo—” The breath leaves my body as his arms wrap around me.

“Maisy. Oh my God, Maisy. I’m so sorry, baby.”

I pull back to see his face. My first impression was right. “Bo, is that a bandage on your eyebrow?”

“Fuck. This has been the worst night of my entire life.”

“Me too.”

He nuzzles into my neck. “I’m so sorry. My phone died and I couldn’t text you from the hospital.”

“The hospital?”

“I hit a moose.”

“Oh my God—”

“He loped off. He’s fine. My car’s totaled though.”

“Oh my God—”

“And then the nurses gave me so much pain medicine that it knocked me out, even though I tried to resist.”

“Oh my God—”

“The second I woke up, I tore out my IVs and came here.”

“Oh my God—” Clearly my brain is in a state of shock.

“I had to see you. I have to be here with you.”

“Bo, are you alright? Are you even supposed to be out of bed?”

“No.”

“I have to take you back.”

“I’m not supposed to be out of bed, Maisy. I’m supposed to be in bed with you. Here. Now.”

“What? You got hurt.”

“I’m fine. It was just a bump.” His hands cup the sides of my face. “You waited.” The intensity of his voice hits me right in the heart.

“Of course I did, Bo.”

“You trusted me to show up.”

I just nod, feeling the tears about to make their getaway.

“You love me?”

“Always have,” I whisper back. “And you love me?”

“Always have and always will, Maisy.” He presses his forehead to mine. “I need you so badly, Maisy.”

“I need you to, Bo.” I tug at the zipper of his jacket which he finally shrugs out of. Then I tug on the hem of his shirt. “Can we—”

“Nothing on this beautiful fucking planet could stop me from being with you, Maisy.”

“Then kiss me.”

“Okay. Maisy.”

His hands still as our breaths meet between us. It’s as if we’re both taking a moment to recognize that nothing will ever be the same again.

I, for one, am committing this moment to memory.

And that’s when his lips meet mine, and I know I’m not prepared for this. But it’s everything I want, and I can’t deny the immediate hunger that takes over my brain and my body.

His lips on me is perfection. So badly, I want to take this slow and feel every feeling that’s pouring down on me, but my body has been aching for this man far too long already.

“I need to be closer to you, Bo.” And then it’s a mad frantic scramble to lose my clothes to the floor and rip him out of his layers.

“Take me to the bed,” I say, placing my hands on his shoulders. Without further explanation, he tucks his hands under my ass and lifts me up to wrap my legs around him.

The feel of his naked body surrounding me is almost too much. My brain is in overdrive.

He gets us to the bed and lays me down gently. “Let’s take this slow, Maisy.”

“Let’s not, Bo. Please.”

His eyes are on fire, scorching me with their need. “We’ll do it your way this time, and afterward it’s my turn.”

My heart is doing gymnastics in my chest. Flip flopping. Bouncing. Jumping. Spinning. Landing it.

“Okay, Bo.”

Hovering over me, pressing against me in all the right places, he asks, “Are you wet, Maisy?”

A small squeak escapes my lips, dying, that he just asked me that. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted. “Mhmm,” I manage to reply.

“Show me.”

Fuck. This man. Little does he know how much just his very being turns me on. I reach down to pull my fingers through my slickness, and then I bring my fingers up for his examination.

“Is that for me, baby?”

I just nod because I can’t get a sound past the thickness in my throat.

His fingers encircle my wrist and bring my fingers to his mouth where he proceeds to suck them. “Fuck, you taste good, Maisy.”

Pressure builds in my stomach, I’m clenching at air.

“I want more of that later, but right now, I just want us together.”

“Yes, please,” I whisper.

He’s already grabbing his cock, giving it a couple of strokes, before he swipes it down my center.

I can’t help crying out, “Oh my God, Bo.”

And it’s almost drowned out by his guttural groan.

“You’re so perfect for me, Maisy. You’re everything I want. I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that I’m the man for you.”

“I already know you are, Bo.”

His forehead meets mine as he slides into home. Baseball metaphor at a time like this? I know. But it’s exactly what I thought of when I took him inside. This is where he belongs. This is where I belong.

I’ve loved this man for an eternity, and now we can finally be everything to each other.

“I’m so close, Bo.”

“Fuck, I needed to hear that. You feel so good, Maisy. I’m hardly holding it together.”

“Then don’t.” I grip his neck, pulling him for a long deep kiss, where our tongues collide. I arch my hips up into him as he pumps into me.

“That’s it, Bo. Uhhhh…that’s. It. Exactly. Don’t stop.”

“Never.” The words drench me, thrusting me over the edge.

White hot pleasure explodes in my body. Like every single cell in my body disintegrated and is being reborn.

“Fuuuuck,” Bo growls as he pumps into me two more times. I can feel him permeate me, body and soul.

Life will never be the same. And I couldn’t be happier.
