Epilogue

Stephanie

My silver hair is tied up into a long ponytail that perfectly pairs with the Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat from Spider-Man costume I decided to wear. DJ has all of us at his and Mack’s place for a surprise party for Mack. Mack believes we’re here for a Halloween party, not his birthday.

Hence the costumes. Elle and Archer are dressed up as Ricky Bobby and Cal Noughton Jr. from Talladega Nights.

The red racing suit and fake mustache does nothing to distract me from the fact that Elle is now sporting a glittering diamond ring.

Big enough for its own gravitation pull, yet somehow still effortlessly Elle.

A diamond ring that was not there last week when we met up for Trunk or Treat planning! They think they’re being sneaky, not announcing it, but we noticed, we see it.

I can’t believe the audacity! Trying to be sneaky and keeping something like this from us. I thought we were friends! Friends celebrate big things like this with their friends!

I plot to corner Sadie, I know she had a part in this. I can’t believe they’re acting like it’s no big deal! I must figure out how to get one of them to spill the beans.

My revenge plotting is interrupted by a gorgeous redhead tapping me on the shoulder. “Hi! I’m Vanessa.”

I’m a little confused about why she’s coming up to me and introducing herself like this because she has a wedding band on her hand, crushing my little bi heart.

“Hi, I’m Steph.” I shake her hand, still confused.

“I know.” Vanessa laughs. “Mack pointed you out.”

“Oh.” I feel a little awkward.

Vanessa clears her throat. “I actually came over to ask you two things.”

“Oh. Yeah go ahead.”

“Okay first things first. Mack said you’re the gal to talk to about joining Book Club?

I need some more friends. I have my husband, and my best friend, and Mack.

But I need more female friends ya know? So, Mack suggested I talk to you!

He said that you have a book club with some of the WAGs of the Wolves, and they would be pretty understanding of my unique situation. ” She continues.

My mind is spinning trying to connect dots. Unique situation?

I blink once, then twice trying to get my mouth to work with my brain. “Yeah, we would love for you to join the book club, we meet every second Tuesday of the month. Typically at Elle and Archer’s place since it’s downtown and the most central.”

The relief on her face is pure and sweet. “Oh wow! Thank you so much, that was a lot easier than I expected. I was thinking I was going to have to like bribe you all with baked goods and wine.” She giggles nervously.

“Oh, I mean we won’t say no to those things.” I laugh. “What was the second thing you wanted to ask me about?”

“Oh. Right. That.” She pauses, seeming to choose her next words carefully. “Mack told me you’re the Wolves’ social media specialist. I was wondering if you could help my friend.”

Ah. There it is. Dots are connecting.

“Yeah of course, sure. Who is your friend.”

“Tucker Cade.”

And then it hits me.

That name. Tucker Cade.

Oh.

Oh shit.
