Chapter Four

Justice

I t’s been two days, two fucking days without any word from her. I even drove to the school and waited outside for her today only to find out she never went. I’m left with no other option but drive to her house, parents be damned.

I don’t care if she’s pissed off about what she thinks she saw. I’m going to find out what the hell happened the other night. I haven’t been able to stop worrying about her. Cold and wet—the terror in her eyes before devastation took over has haunted me since.

I searched for her all night; wanting to explain what she saw wasn’t what it looked like. I never touched that bitch. I haven’t touched anyone since my night with her, which is straining my relationship with my brothers and wreaking havoc on my cock.

Today we will get to the bottom of it, once and for all.

Parking on the street, I climb off my bike and walk up the large front steps that lead to her house, my boots stomping the wooden boards beneath them.

I have no doubt I look as out of place as I feel.

The whole street screams class and prestige, just like her stuck-up parents.

I’ve only encountered them once and they are as big of assholes as the rest of the founding families here in Winchester.

Maybe worse because I know how they treat their daughter, I see it in Ryanne’s sad eyes every time I look at her.

Not to mention the off-handed comments she’s made when we’ve hung out before.

That alone makes me hate them.

I knock a few times before someone answers. Her mother is the one to open the door, surprise registering on her face before pure disgust replaces it. Ryanne looks nothing like her, you’d never know the two are even related.

“What do you want?” she bites out, her voice dripping with disdain.

“I’m here to see Ryanne.”

“She’s not home.”

She begins to close the door but I stick my foot in.

“I’m not leaving here until I see her.”

Her eyes drop to my scuffed-up boot before lifting back to my face. “Well you’ll be waiting a while. She’s left town.”

Every muscle in my body tightens. I study her face, looking for deception. “You’re lying.”

“Am I?” she says, stepping back. “You want to come in and see for yourself?”

I remain exactly where I am and try to figure out what kind of game she’s playing.

I have no doubt the moment I step foot inside she will call the police, giving Sheriff Toder the gracious opportunity to haul me in.

The miserable bastard is always gunning for my brothers and me, has from the moment we came to this town.

However, if a run-in with the good sheriff has to happen in order for me to get what I want, then so be it.

“Tell Ryanne I’m here or I will come into your home and bring the wrath of hell with me. I don’t give a fuck who you are.”

A split-second of fear resonates on her face before she masks it, lifting her chin stubbornly. “She’s in California and she isn’t coming back. She’s finishing out her last year of school there.”

The cold hard truth in her eyes has dread sinking into my gut, heavy and hard. It can’t be true. She wouldn’t leave, especially without telling me.

Is that what brought her to my apartment the other night? The thought has me feeling physically sick.

She peers back at me smugly. “I have to thank you, Mr. Creed. Whatever you did to my daughter finally made her see you for the trash you really are.”

My teeth grind, jaw flexing as I restrain myself from striking out at the evil bitch. “Which school?” I ask.

I want evidence. I want to see for myself, until then I refuse to believe it.

“ That is something I will never tell you,” she says, the smug look on her face fading. “I want you to leave, now. Go home to that nigger you call a father and stay the hell away from my daughter!” She slams the door in my face, securing the lock in place.

“Fuck!” My foot strikes out, kicking over a small table that holds a potted plant, shattering it on the porch before I descend the steps.

Determination burns in my blood as I climb back on my bike and peel away. I have one mission in mind and that’s to find her.

Only, it never happens.

Ryanne Lockwood disappeared without a trace, leaving nothing behind but her memory that haunted me on the darkest nights.
