11. Kane

Kane’s eyes followed Sarah around the large open grassed area. He watched as her emerald dress swung around her body, this one shorter than her others, stopping just below her knees. She stopped to talk to the investor’s wives, charming them with some story, her full-bodied laugh drawing appreciative glances from others.

She’s mine.

Kane watched as Sarah held her left hand out for the women to inspect her engagement ring. She looked proud as her eyes sought his out and smiled when they connected. Kane couldn’t wait until they were alone again.

A hard clap on the shoulder shook him out of his daydream. Luke came to stand beside him as they surveyed the crowd.

“This is a good thing,” Luke said, staring straight ahead, always on alert.

Kane nodded. “The investors are happy and we get to make a difference in countries that we couldn’t access. It worked out.”

‘That’s good too, but I meant Sarah. She’s good for you brother.”

Kane looked at his friend. “Have you been reading those damn romance novels again?”

Luke glared at him. “My home is invaded by a fat ginger demon and his owner. I just hope he hasn’t destroyed my furniture.”

“You know you can always go and check on Eve and Fred. By the way she was looking at you last night, she would welcome you with open arms.”

“That’s when she thought I was a good man. We both know I’m not.” Luke grunted.

Kane turned to his brother. “You saved every one of us at some point in combat Luke. You are and always will be a hero to us. I’m proud to call you a brother.” Kane clapped Luke on the shoulder and bought him in for a man hug. Luke stiff and unyielding, but Kane knowing he appreciated it.

“You need to go and look after your woman. I heard them planning the wedding as I walked past. Just how far are you going to let this go?” Luke grumbled as he pulled away.

“As far as she will let me, Luke. I’d marry her tomorrow if I could, it’s just that she still thinks it’s all fake and we are only messing around for a short time.”

“This is not fake for you then?” Luke asked as they both watched Sarah break away from the group and walk towards them.

“She’s the one for me. I just need to convince her now.”

Kane and Sarah stayed together for the rest of the afternoon, Sarah warmly saying goodbye to the investors and their wives, Kane knowing they were as enchanted by her as he is.

“So, I hear you have started wedding plans, my wife to be. When is the happy day supposed to be then,” he said as he ran a hand down her back, stopping at the top of her hip and kneading his fingers into her as she waved goodbye.

Sarah turned to him and said cheekily, “well I said I was saving myself for the wedding night and I can no longer wait, so we decided to have a home wedding as soon as possible. The wives were so jealous of me.” She grinned up at him. “But, I did say I was having some difficulty planning it, so we haven’t set a firm date yet.” Sarah laughed. “You should have seen your face. You went white my dear intended.”

“Wait. Saving yourself?” Kane asked, concerned he had pushed her when he shouldn’t have.

Sarah waved a hand at him. “Of course not silly. But it makes the love story all the more romantic doesn’t it. And let’s face it, the rate we are going, we are never going to be alone to have sex anyway, so I might as well have some fun with it.”

Sarah linked her arm with his and leaned up to kiss under his chin. “Now take me home, my beloved. I want to check on Eve.”

Home. That word just felt right to hear from Sarah. Now to find a way to make her home with me permanent.

Kane didn’t have to wait long for an excuse. The investors phoned him the next day to say that they would like to come to the wedding as their wives were enchanted by Sarah and his relationship. The wives insisted that they help with the planning. Kane of course agreed and told them Sarah would contact the wives with a firm date in the near future. Kane wasn’t sure how he was going to tell Sarah, but he knew that this would work to his advantage. He wanted to marry Sarah, and at least this gave him more time to make Sarah realize he was serious.

When he told Sarah, she happily went along with it, saying she would fulfil what she needed to for the shelter. He tried to catch Sarah alone multiple times, but now they were all at the ranch, his brothers kept interfering and the only time alone they had was as partners for the self-defense classes. Kane took full advantage of these, making sure he pressed Sarah so she had to put her hands on him as many times as possible, as Kane tried to sweep her onto the mats as she learned to defend herself. Kane knew Sarah was as worked up as he was by the physical contact. He could see the need in her eyes as his hand brushed her breasts or hips. Her scent was driving him to distraction. He knew he had to make a move soon as Sarah kept on threatening to replace her pink penetrator so she could at least get some relief, and there was no way he was going to let some mechanical toy take the place of where he wanted to be. Needed to be.

He had to make his move.
