Chapter 18 #2
Ty rushes to my defense. “He didn’t, honestly.
He tried the whole night to escape Kelly when she kept trying to advance even after he told her he was taken.
Vic ended up leaving the party early, but then Kelly got his number and started texting.
The girl was relentless. Anyway, some people, including Vic, told Gabbi about it, to which she waited until she was face-to-face with the girl before their game against each other, where she politely told the girl to fuck off, but way nicer. ”
Vera’s voice cuts in, aimed at Gabbi, “So, did she stop?”
Gabbi lowers her beer and lets out a breath, “No, she told me that she wanted Vic and that she always gets what she wants.”
“So? What’d you do?” Vera’s forearms are propped up on the shiny bar top, her body leaning forward, hanging on every word.
With a bark of laughter from Ty, Gabbi smiles and coyly responds, “I slide-tackled her in the game and accidentally broke her leg.” Gabbi takes another sip of beer while nonchalantly shrugging her shoulders.
Vera erupts into laughter, and the whole length of the bar looks at her in shock.
She laughs so hard that Big D slides down to us, staring at his wife like she’s been body-snatched.
“Hey, Sugar, you alright?” Big D’s gravely, low voice slides out of his toothy grin.
While Vera is catching her breath, Big D looks to Gabbi, “You must be one hell of a storyteller, girl.”
Vera stands up from being bent over, still holding her belly and wiping a tear from her eye, “This girl is amazing! I love a feral woman after my own heart. I will absolutely let you know, though, that Summer over there is a lot like your high school rival, so watch yourself, young lady.” With that, Vera and Big D saunter away, Vera likely filling him in on the story she just heard.
Well, turns out that Summer did not get the message; she spent all night sneaking in touches and lewd comments to me every time Gabbi walked away to get a drink, go to the bathroom, or talk to someone more than ten feet away from me.
I’m not sure if Gabbi saw any of it, but each interaction from Summer earned a fuck off from me and Ty.
It’s not even 1:00 a.m., and I’m ready to get out of here.
I don’t want to deal with Summer anymore.
I close my tab while Gabbi says her goodbyes, and we head out to my lifted, white, 2003 F-150.
Ty walks us out, but he’s moving slowly so he can chat with a petite redhead he met earlier.
The air is crisp, but not quite chilly yet, with a clear sky full of stars.
We all make it to the truck and are saying goodbye to Ty when a curvy blonde comes bouncing out of the bar toward us. It isn’t until I see Vera jog out after her that I realize what’s going on. Summer is coming out to, what, confront us? Oh shit.
“Hey, bitch!” Summer calls from about six feet away from Gabbi.
Gabbi drops her shoulders and turns around slowly, Summer still approaching, “What can I help you with? Stacey, is it?” Oh, my girl is like, classy savage.
“You know, if you gave a damn about Vicki, you would have seen him coming onto me all night. Maybe he isn’t yours. Maybe you should read the signs.”
Gabbi smiles at her, a megawatt smile. But before she can say anything, Summer opens her irritating mouth again, “Call me later, Vicki.” Kicking her hip out and pulling her hand up to her ear like a phone. She winks, blows a kiss at me, then turns to walk away.
Oh. Fuck.
Before Summer can take a step, a hand is in her hair, grabbing hold of the back of her head and slamming her head into my tailgate. Oh. Shit. Without a second to spare, Gabbi pulls Summer’s head away from the truck, reaches her free hand back, and clocks Summer right in the eye.
Summer screams, grabbing her face, when Gabbi throws her to the ground.
Summer’s hands fly out in front of her to catch the pavement before her face does, and Gabbi steps on her back, causing Summer’s hands to pop out from underneath her.
Gabbi then walks over to the side of her and steps on Summer’s fingers.
Ty, Vera, and I cringe when we hear bones cracking.
Gabbi remains standing on her fingers as Summer cries and tries to get off the ground.
She leans down and almost lovingly brushes the hair from Summer’s face.
With a sad pout, Gabbi tells her, “Listen up, bitch, because I’m only going to say this once.
I saw everything in there. I also saw that my boyfriend told you to fuck off several times.
Now, I was just going to drop it because I know my man can handle himself, but you don’t seem to understand verbal communication, hence the physical predicament you’ve found yourself in now. ”
Gabbi grinds her food and grabs Summer’s face by her jaw, making Summer squeal in pain while still keeping eye contact with her.
“If I see you come near Vic again, or even whisper in his direction, I will be happy to facilitate a round two of communication, you will understand. Do you hear me, Samantha?” Summer shakes her head yes, and Gabbi drops her face and steps away.
Summer stumbles to her feet and hollers at Vera, “Did you see that, Mama? She assaulted me?”
Vera shakes her head and shrugs her shoulders, “Sorry, baby, I didn’t see anything. Looks like you may have had a bad fall in the parking lot.” God, I love that woman.
Summer turns to look back at Gabbi with a betrayed and surprised look on her face, “Fuck this. You’re crazy, bitch!”
Gabbi laughs, almost maniacally, and shouts back at Summer as she limps her way across the asphalt, “Better remember that! Oh, and please feel free to pass that along to any of the other skanks that may be as delusional as you.” Classy and savage, that’s my girl.
