15. Chapter 15 #4

Dame took a pull before he exhaled a thick cloud. "Damn... this strain is good."

"Well, don't get attached," Nana warned, snatching the blunt back. "I need you to do something, King."

Dame was relaxed and grinning. "What's that, Nana?"

"Throw this on Brooklyn's car."

Dame froze and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. "What?!"

I started clapping my hands together.

Dame hissed, "Quiet!" You could tell we overwhelmed him.

Oh well.

Dame said, “I can’t do that.”

"Who the fuck said you can't do it?!" I cut him off as I stepped close. "Do you know who you are?!"

Nana looked at Dame, then looked at me, and caught the vibe. Then, she joined in. "Yeah! Do you know who the fuck you are?!"

Dame blinked through his haze, chest heaving. "I'm... I'm Dame?"

I brought my palm around and slapped the absolute fuck out of the back of his head.

"Boy, try again!" I growled. "Do you know who you are?!"

Dame straightened his spine as his aggression was reigniting when he locked eyes with me. "I'm the King."

"That's right." I said.

Dame stood up taller with his shoulders thrown back. "I'm the mothafucking King!

I cheered, “That’s what the fuck I’m talking about!"

"Grandson, she tried your mothafucking gangsta!

" Nana hissed, stepping up to him. "She tried your manhood! She took advantage of your kindness! Don’t be soft on someone who used you for their own game.

I get that you trying to be a good King and do things the right way, but sometimes you gotta let these mothafuckas know that you are NOT the one to be played with! You gotta get as crazy as them!"

I nodded, bouncing on my toes.

Nana pointed her finger toward the fluid-soaked sports car as she shoved the blunt back in his grip. "So throw the shit before we jump you for punking out!"

Dame turned his head, looking down at me for help. "Well... you heard her. Throw the shit, baby."

He nodded to himself. Then, he swallowed and flicked the blunt at Brooklyn’s whip. The first flame caught her drenched front tire as we took a step back.

WHOOSH!

A roaring, blinding wall of orange and blue fire exploded across the hood of Brooklyn's car, lighting up the entire pavilion in an instant. I loved watching fire, it truly made me happy. What made me happier, was seeing my man take his power back.

"It's taking too long!" I shouted over the crackle. I grabbed the rest of the fluid and started aggressively squirting the accelerant straight into the flames, creating massive, violent bursts of fire that shot fifteen feet into the night sky.

Nana went completely unhinged. She grabbed her empty liquor bottle and smashed it against my father-in-law's truck.

The fire caught the trailing liquid, racing across the ground in a roaring line of destruction.

The three of us stood there in amazement. The heat washed over our faces while we stared at the lovely masterpiece we had just created.

"Holy shit..." Dame breathed out. This terrifying, beautiful smile took over his fear.

"All right! Time to go! Time to go, move!" Nana barked, slapping his shoulder.

We all scrambled away. I slammed the brake light compartment shut, hopped into the front passenger seat, and Dame slammed his foot all the way down on the gas pedal.

The tires screeched against the pavement, burning rubber as we peeled off, racing down the dark roads like bats out of hell.

I leaned my head out the passenger window, throwing my head back and laughing hysterically with Nana.

We dapped each other up with our heads hanging out the car while Dame laughed right along with us, yelling in victory as we sped away from the scene.

The adrenaline, the petty revenge, and the lick back felt so damn good.

I glanced over at Dame. His hands were gripping the steering wheel tight, but his eyes were glowing in the dark. A smirk sat permanently on his lips. Nana had given my husband his spark back.

We all knew Brooklyn was never going to make it out of this war alive, but giving her a small taste of what happens when you fuck with the Okoye family felt like vindication at its finest.

"That's why you don't fuck with the royal family, bitch!" I screamed out the open window into the wind.

We were all yelling, feeling so free and alive in the middle of the night.

By the time we pulled up to my childhood home, the adrenaline was finally settling down.

Nana gathered her purse and her fat stack of money, leaning over to plant a warm kiss on my cheek.

"Thanks for the ride lovebirds," she said, her face glowing with a satisfied grin. "Y'all go get a good night's rest."

"Yes, ma'am," Dame said with his energy restored.

He unbuckled his seatbelt, and stepped out onto the pavement to escort her up the steps. Nana walked around the side of the SUV and looped her arm through his. They took the concrete steps one by one.

When they made it to the top landing, Nana stopped and pulled Dame into a tight, motherly hug. She reached up, grabbed his face in both of her hands, and pressed a kiss against his forehead before turning the knob and slipping inside the house.
