Chapter 19 She Will Come Back #2
She twisted desperately, but the nurse steadied her while the doctor drew the blood sample. Alexa winced sharply when the needle pierced her skin, her eyes squeezing shut for a moment before more tears spilled down her cheeks.
Once the sample was collected, the doctor examined the vial briefly before looking up.
"I'll need Mr. Jacob's sample as well."
Without hesitation, Vincent rolled up the sleeve of his shirt and extended his arm. His movements were smooth and unhurried, as though none of this affected him in the slightest. The doctor quickly collected his blood before stepping back.
"Is that enough?" Vincent asked.
"Yes, Mr. Jacobs. This is more than enough."
"How long?"
The doctor glanced at the samples in his hands.
"It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Please give me a moment. I'll run the test immediately."
Vincent gave a brief nod.
The doctor gathered the samples and hurried out of the room.
The door closed behind him, and silence immediately settled over the room once again.
The only sound left was Alexa's uneven breathing and the occasional hitch of a suppressed sob.
Vincent slowly shifted his gaze back to her.
The anger he had been holding back all evening was no longer hidden. It lingered in his eyes now, dark and cold enough to make Alexa's stomach twist.
"What exactly did you say to Juliet?"
His voice was quiet, but there was a dangerous edge beneath it that made her entire body tense.
Alexa froze.
Before she could answer, Vincent took a slow step forward.
The sound of his shoes against the floor seemed unnaturally loud in the silence.
"Have I ever touched you?" he asked, staring directly into her eyes.
His gaze never wavered.
"Even once?"
His jaw tightened visibly as he continued looking at her.
"When exactly did I make you pregnant with my child?"
The question hit Alexa like a bucket of ice water.
Her heart nearly stopped.
For years, she had imagined countless scenarios involving Vincent, but never once had she imagined being on the receiving end of this look.
There was no warmth in his eyes, no patience, and certainly no affection.
There was only anger, cold and controlled, which somehow made it even more terrifying.
Fear surged through her body.
"Vincent, I..."
Her lips trembled as she struggled to find the right words.
"I don't understand what you're talking about."
"You don't?"
Vincent tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing.
The simple movement sent another wave of panic through her.
Alexa immediately shook her head.
"I was only joking," she blurted out hurriedly. "I casually mentioned it to her, but I wasn't serious. It was just a joke."
The nervous laugh that escaped her sounded hollow and broken.
"I think Juliet misunderstood me."
She leaned forward as much as the restraints allowed, her eyes pleading desperately with him.
"If you want, I can call her right now and explain everything. I'll tell her it was a misunderstanding."
Tears rolled continuously down her cheeks as she spoke.
"Please, Vincent. Don't do this. I'm really scared."
Her voice cracked again as she shifted in the chair, trying unsuccessfully to free herself.
"I was only joking. You know how I am. I joke around all the time. It wasn't serious."
The words poured out faster and faster as panic overtook her.
"Juliet always takes things too seriously. She misunderstood what I said and got angry. That's all it was. I didn't mean anything by it. Please believe me."
She swallowed hard, her throat tight with fear.
"I never said I was actually carrying your child."
Fresh tears blurred her vision.
"Please listen to me."
Her voice dropped to a desperate whisper as she looked up at him.
"I'm telling the truth."
But Vincent didn't spare Alexa another glance.
He turned his face away from her and rubbed his thumb slowly against his jaw, his expression dark and stormy.
The anger simmering beneath the surface was so obvious that everyone in the room could feel it.
His jaw remained tightly clenched, and the muscle there twitched every few seconds, making it clear that whatever patience he had left was rapidly disappearing.
Without saying a word, he lifted his eyes toward the bodyguards standing outside the door and gave a slight tilt of his head in Alexa's direction.
The guards immediately understood.
They stepped into the room without hesitation.
The moment Alexa realized what was happening, panic flooded her face.
"No!"
She struggled violently in her chair, tears spilling down her cheeks as one of the guards crouched beside her and untied the restraints around her wrists.
"Vincent, please!"
The ropes had barely fallen away before the guards grabbed her by the arms and pulled her to her feet.
Fear flashed across her face.
"Vincent, don't do this. Please listen to me!"
Her voice cracked into a sob as she tried to pull free, but the guards' grip never loosened.
"Are you angry with me? Vincent, please!" she cried, stumbling as they dragged her toward the door. "I didn't mean it! I swear I didn't mean it! Please don't do this to me!"
Tears streamed endlessly down her face as she twisted around to look at him, desperately hoping he would stop them.
But Vincent remained completely unmoved.
He stood where he was with one hand in his pocket and his gaze fixed elsewhere, as though she didn't even exist. Her cries echoed through the room, but not once did he look in her direction.
The indifference hurt far more than anger ever could.
"Vincent!"
Her voice became shrill with panic.
"Please! Please listen to me!"
The guards dragged her through the doorway despite her struggles.
A second later, the door shut behind her.
Silence immediately settled over the room.
Vincent exhaled slowly through his nose before turning toward the lawyer seated nearby.
Lifting an eyebrow, he asked, "What about the engagement cancellation documents? The cancellation can still be stopped, right?"
The lawyer immediately straightened in his chair.
"Yes, Mr. Jacobs."
He quickly flipped through the stack of documents before him, adjusting his glasses as he reviewed the paperwork.
"Since the official legal proceedings haven't been completed yet, the cancellation can still be withdrawn. The process hasn't been finalized by the court, which means you can reverse the decision at any time before that happens."
Vincent listened quietly, his expression gradually easing as the lawyer continued explaining the details.
The tension that had been carved into his features slowly disappeared. By the time the explanation ended, the corner of his lips had already lifted slightly.
"Good."
The single word left his mouth as he gave a satisfied nod.
Then he turned toward Griffin.
Griffin was already standing nearby with his phone in hand. The moment their eyes met, Griffin casually lifted the device.
"I've already sent the video to Juliet."
Vincent's eyes brightened almost immediately.
His posture relaxed, and some of the coldness lingering around him finally faded.
"She has it?"
"Of course."
Griffin sounded completely certain.
"Once she watches it, she'll know Alexa lied to her. Everything will clear up immediately. She's angry right now, but after seeing that video, she'll realize she misunderstood the situation."
A grin spread across Griffin's face.
"Trust me. She'll come back."
Hearing that, Vincent leaned back against the edge of the table and folded his arms across his chest.
The satisfaction on his face became impossible to hide.
For the first time all night, he looked genuinely relaxed.
In his mind, the problem was already solved.
Juliet would watch the video.
She would realize she had been wrong.
Then she would call him.
It was only a matter of time.
With that thought, Vincent pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen.
The first few minutes passed easily.
Every time the device lit up, his eyes immediately dropped toward it, only for disappointment to flicker across his face when it turned out to be someone else.
Ten minutes passed.
Then twenty.
Then forty.
Still nothing.
The confidence that had been sitting comfortably on his face slowly began to crack.
His brows drew together slightly as he checked his phone again.
No missed calls.
No messages.
Nothing.
An hour later, the satisfied smile had vanished completely.
He sat in silence, one elbow resting on the armrest while his fingers pressed against his temple. His brows remained tightly furrowed as he stared at the screen.
Across the room, Griffin noticed the change immediately.
"She'll call," he said reassuringly. "She always calls you. She's probably busy."
