She was climbing into her pickup two days later when he flickered across the full moon, hauling an endless length of tail
behind him. The sight of him winded and awed her, the black jagged shape of him moving across a dark sky blazing with stars.
Gwen stood staring for a long time after he was gone, the frozen air burning in her chest, needling her lungs like steel shavings.
