Chapter 25

“Adeline, we need to talk about what you said two weeks ago,” Kieran says.

“What did I say?” I ask, completely drawing a blank.

He gives me a pointed look. “You know what I’m talking about.”

“Kieran, I really don’t. So much has happened in the two weeks and I can’t keep track of everything.”

He can’t be talking about my pure blood Fae comment, can he?

No. It was a passing question I had, and we quickly moved on from it. But he did say we weren’t done with that conversation.

It’s been on my mind a lot since I asked that question. Kieran is the High Lord and I am a mere human. How are we going to have kids and the people be okay with the future of the race being ruled by halflings?

But it will all have to work out somehow or else Kieran wouldn’t be with me. Unless he decides to have kids with me and then have kids with another Fae so he has offspring for the throne.

No.

Don’t think like that. Kieran won’t cheat on me. He said he is mine and only mine.

“You know exactly what I am talking about. I can see it in your eyes. I have felt your worries in the middle of the night. I know you have been thinking about it a lot,” he says.

“I wanted to give you time to come back to me and ask me the question again, but I know you won’t now and we need to talk about this before it becomes something too big and puts a wedge between us.

We talk things out in this relationship. ”

I take a deep breath and slowly let it out.

“Okay,” I finally say. “Let’s talk about it.”

“What was your question and why did you think of it?” Kieran asks.

I groan and look up at the sky. He is really going to make me ask the question again when both of us already know what it’s about? Why can’t he just explain how it’s going to work out?

“You were talking about giving me blood and then I thought about our future kids—” My eyes go wide and I quickly look away from him.

“Hmm, I like the sound of that,” Kieran purrs. “But we can talk about that later. Continue.”

I continue to look away from Kieran. We’ve talked about it before, but I said that way too easily.

“Sweets, it’s natural. We have talked about it before and we both agreed that we want kids,” Kieran says. “Don’t feel embarrassed because you said our future kids. Never feel embarrassed about it.”

“Sorry,” I mumble.

“You don’t have anything to be sorry for.”

I look back at Kieran and he gently runs his finger across my cheek, leaving a trail of tingles while also calming me down at the same time.

“Everything is going to be okay. I liked that it came out naturally and you are already thinking about them. In the future, I do want to have kids. Maybe we can even have ten.” He wiggles his eyebrows as my eyes widen.

“But we’ll talk about how many when we are ready to have kids. I’m good with however many you want.”

My mind is swirling with him wanting ten kids. I’ve always wanted a big family but having ten kids and being in pain that many times is a lot.

“Don’t think about it too much. I want a big family, but if you don’t want to have that many kids, then we don’t have to,” he says gently. “Let’s get back to the question you had.”

I take a deep breath and nod. “I was thinking about them and how you are Fae and I’m human.

Will they be halfblood Fae? Will people be bothered by them ruling over them in the future?

Are they going to get bullied and dethroned?

Will we have another instance like we are living in right now?

Are you going to have to have kids with another Fae to have a pureblood so nothing bad happens?

” I ramble on, letting all my worries flow out.

“Anything else?” Kieran asks.

“I don’t want them to suffer their whole lives,” I whisper.

“We’ve done enough of that and I think they should go through some hardships, but I also don’t want them to struggle and go through so much in their lives that they aren’t enjoying it.

I don’t want you to sleep with another woman when I am your mate. ”

“And what do you think we should do about that?” he asks.

Did he not hear any of my questions? Why is he making me come up with solutions for them when he has the answers to it all?

“Can you answer my question? If they are going to be halfblood Fae and if they are going to suffer? I need to know before I can make any sort of plans or else my mind is going to go into overdrive and come up with so many things and waste time. Or if you need to take someone else to have kids with.” I take a deep breath, my chest heaving as I wait for him to answer.

Please tell me that you aren’t going to take another woman to have kids with. That I’m the only person you want to be with for the rest of your life.

“First off, I will never have another woman in my life. You are the only one I want and the only one I am going to have. They are not going to be halfblood Fae. They will be pure Fae. Even if they were going to be halfblood Fae, I still wouldn’t take another Fae female to have pureblood Fae kids with,” Kieran replies.

“I don’t want you to ever think about that again or worry. You are it for me.”

“How is that possible when I’m human?” I tilt my head to the side as I look at him, feeling relieved that he isn’t going to take another female partner to have kids with.

I hadn’t thought of that possibility until just right now.

“Because I am the High Lord, so my genes are strong. You are also slowly going to change when the curse is broken and you’ll become like a Fae,” Kieran explains.

“It’s hard to go into detail on how and what is going to change since it hasn’t happened in hundreds of years.

But by the time we have kids, your body will have changed enough to where you will be just like a Fae. ”

“So they aren’t going to get bullied or dethroned?”

He nods. “They will not. They are going to be full Fae so you don’t have to worry about anything.”

I sigh and lean my head on his chest.

“Were you this worried about it?” he asks as he runs his hands through my hair.

I nod. “I really was. I know our people love me already but I was worried about our future kids and what was going to happen. I didn’t want anything bad to happen to them.”

“We aren’t going to allow anything to happen to them, and I know when we do have kids, our people are going to adore them and want to help us take care of them,” Kieran says. “You don’t have to worry about that.”

“Will I see our kids when we have them, or is everyone going to keep them away from us?” I chuckle.

“You will see them, don’t worry. We’ll have a couple trusted people who can look after them when we want to have some alone time or need to go visit a town and can’t bring them along,” he explains.

I pull away from his chest and look up at him. “I don’t know if I can be apart from them for that long.”

Kieran cups my face. “Everything is going to work out. There will be times when we won’t be able to take them with us and it’s going to be hard, but we’ll get through it.”

“Will I be able to talk to them like I talk to you?” I ask.

“When they hit a certain age they will be able to talk to us, both but they won’t get that ability until they are at least five.”

My eyebrows bunch together. “At least five?”

“It varies per kid but the youngest they can communicate with their parents is five.” Kieran pulls me back into his embrace.

I hold onto his shirt, feeling overwhelmed.

“What’s wrong?” Kieran asks.

“I’ve been around babies before, little kids, but right now I feel like I don’t know anything. I’m worried that when we do have kids, I won’t be able to take care of them because I don’t know when they will be able to do certain things,” I ramble.

“Everything is going to be okay,” he reiterates for the umpteenth time. “When the curse is broken I’ll make sure to tell you things about Fae kids slowly so by the time you get pregnant, you will know what is going to happen.”

“Is there some woman that I can talk to when I do get pregnant who has had a kid before?” I ask. “I know you are here for me and can answer my questions, but you’ve never had a kid.”

Kieran chuckles. “When the curse is broken I will introduce you to several females who have had kids so you can talk to them and ask all the questions you want. Does that sound okay?”

“Yes.” I nod my head. “Thank you.”

We hold each other for several minutes.

“How is your thigh doing?” Kieran asks.

“I’ve been off of it all last week and it has healed nicely. Mother helps me clean it and put the salve on it,” I reply. “I think it’s almost fully healed. Thanks to the salve but also you giving me blood.”

“Anytime. Have you been sleeping well?”

Sighing, I snuggle my face into his chest, not wanting to talk about it.

“Have you guys gotten any closer with the book and spells?” I ask after several minutes.

Kieran pulls back. “We are not done talking about your sleeping habits.” He boops my nose. “But we have made progress. We found out which spell it is and are actively trying to translate it and make sure that we are getting it correct.”

Hope blossoms inside of me. “Really?”

“Yes, there are only a couple of us who have remembered the witch’s language and we are each taking a turn translating it to see if we get the same thing,” he explains. “We want to make sure that everything is correct before we try anything.”

Tears pool in my eyes and I quickly blink them back. “That is such a relief. Soon you will be free and soon we will be able to be together.”

Kieran cups my face. “Very soon. Just hang in there a little longer.”
