Epilogue

Five years later

Emmett

I just walked into the doctor’s office and found Kinsley sitting in the waiting room.

I walk up to her and grab the seat next to her.

“I’m sorry I cut it so close, sweetheart.

You been here long?” She gives me a smile.

“No. I just came straight from work. Your mom has Hope, and your dad is going to Booker’s practice.

You didn’t have to take time off to come.

It’s just a check-up.” I glare at my wife.

“I’ve come to every one of these appointments since you rang that bell all those years ago.

I’m not pressing our luck by missing one.

You know that could bring bad juju.” Kinsley rolls her eyes at me, but still takes my hand in hers and gives it a squeeze.

I’m about to ask her about our meeting later today with the adoption agency and our soon-to-be additions to our family when someone walks up to us.

I look away from my wife and see it’s none other than Darius.

He gives a smile. “Well, if it’s not my favorite brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Why don’t you two come back so we can run those tests, confirm the cancer is still gone, and you can hurry up and find out when my newest nephew and niece will be here. I’ve got presents to buy, damn it.”

Toketee Creek may be a small town, but it’s definitely not boring, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
