18. A Cosmic Affair
Chapter eighteen
A Cosmic Affair
I t’s been a celestial year since I watched Eliam and Gabe as they sat chatting under the trees at twilight.
I’ve checked in on Gabe more, but I didn’t want him to neglect his family for me.
So, I had Eliam deliver a final message to him about enjoying his time with the people who love him.
I watched constantly for a while to make sure he actually listened.
“I want to explore you in every corner of the universe before you two run off to make the perfect Incandescent baby.” Eliam’s words bring me back to the present as he lays rubbing the thigh that’s draped over him .
“Not with your unfortunate timing, you can’t.” I look up from under his chin and wink as I wait for the news to sink in. When his abs start contracting from his unrestrained mirth, I know he understands.
“That little asshole! He didn’t even say anything when we spoke earlier.” Eliam’s laughter lights up his words in the most enchanting way. “Congratulations, Princess.” The way he says my title still sends a shiver through me.
He places a kiss on my forehead before he lightly rubs my stomach which hasn’t started extending yet.
“Have you seen him recently?” In moments like this, my heart always goes to Gabe. I miss him so much it hurts.
“Yeah. He’s doing great. Misses you a lot.” He runs his fingers through my hair.
Uziel knocks on the door, then starts yelling before either of us can answer him. “Did you tell him?” His voice is brimming with excitement and it makes me chuckle.
“She told me, but I don’t really believe she let you touch her!”
Uziel laughs from the other side of the door while I try to elbow Eliam in the stomach. I narrowly miss and he slides off the bed heading towards his clothes.
“Did you tell her?”
Eliam freezes, completely naked in the middle of the room we call ours whenever he visits. “No! So don’t fucking ruin it. I’m going to bring her out.” I look back and forth between the door and Eliam. He winks at me. “Come on, get dressed. We’ve got a surprise for you.”
I get out of bed and eye him suspiciously. “One of you better tell me what’s going on,” I lightly threaten, loud enough for Uziel to hear.
“I’m going to make sure the surprise is still ready!” Uziel announces as Eliam slows down our progress by kissing me every time I reach for something to wear.
His attempts at distracting me have almost ended with us back in bed, but at last, we make it outside. I walk out into the largest garden on our property with Eliam on my arm.
“What’s going on?
Uziel is standing in front of another celestial I can’t see. Eliam doesn’t answer my question and I feel my eyebrows furrow.
“Nothing,” Eliam responds nonchalantly as we keep walking. We are almost there when Uziel steps to the right and I stop moving; I almost stop existing.
Gabe is standing as beautifully as ever with a smile plastered on his face, his eyes blaze as he looks at me. He is exactly like he was the day I left him on Earth.
“How is this possible?” I saunter over to Gabe, gazing at the lines of his face. I reach out, my fingers gently floating over his eyes, nose and lips.
“Well, I died,” Gabe admits sheepishly, kissing my fingers as they hover over his mouth.
“I thought you said he was doing great?” I glare at Eliam .
“I mean he is doing great, now .” I roll my eyes at him. “Technically, I didn’t lie.”
“Eliam, he died!” I look between Gabriel, Uziel and Eliam, unsure if I’m going to laugh or cry. “I don’t understand.”
“You’re the reason, in short.” It’s Eliam who answers.
“His connection to you altered something deep within his DNA. It happened the first day you met, even though the effects weren’t initially overt.
It’s why his eyes changed colours the more connected you got.
But it wasn’t only his eyes—the connection was altering things we couldn’t see.
It’s also why he saw you leave but didn’t go mad. "
I am listening to the explanation when Gabe steps forward, wraps his hand around my waist and all but slams our bodies together.
My breasts smash against his firm chest, right before our lips collide.
I moan into the kiss as his hands roam my body.
It turns into a desperate frenzy instantly and before I know it, Gabe is tugging at the strap on my shoulder.
“I guess my explanation was boring,” Eliam laughs.
Gabe and I separate as I breathlessly rub my fingers over my pulsing lips, the sides of my mouth tugging upwards. Uziel and Eliam have been watching us and smirking—I’d forgotten they were there for a second.
“How do you know any of this?” I manage to ask through a smile that keeps expanding.
“My grandmother, Carina,” Eliam chuckles.
“When Gabe got sick, I noticed some changes that didn’t make sense.
That and cosmic energy started flying off him like crazy.
So, I started trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
My brother sent me to my grandmother—who didn’t believe me since she’s heard of it happening but has never actually seen it. ”
“Seen what?” Uziel asks, as interested in the story as Gabe and I are.
“Cosmic soulmates. That’s what these two are.
” Eliam tilts his head towards Gabe and me.
“So rare, it’s considered impossible by most. But when a human meets their celestial soulmate, prolonged or increased exposure to their cosmic energy has effects .
And by the end of their lives, the human transitions into a celestial as their soul seeks their other half, once freed from its human coil. ”
“When did you find this out?” I can’t believe it.
“A while ago. But I needed time to research and confirm. Then this one was at the end of the line which didn’t give me a lot of time.” Eliam smiles sheepishly. “Sorry it took so long!” He looks at Gabe. “But it’s technically his fault.”
