CHAPTER ONE #3

His hand gripped the woman’s hair, holding her in place as he took control.

Caspen preferred to set his own rhythm, to thrust at a punishing speed.

Not everyone could withstand it, but this woman was eager to please.

The woman who knelt before Bastian displayed much of the same enthusiasm.

Caspen knew what this act meant to the women—it was a competition between them.

He was inside their minds, and he knew they were racing to see whose target would finish first. Caspen had no stake in such a game; he could not care less when he finished.

All he cared about was forgetting the events of the evening.

He prolonged his climax, thinking of other things, distracting himself so that his father could climax first and hopefully leave him alone.

The moment Bastian finished, he walked away. Caspen remained in place, more than ready to come, knowing it would be the pinnacle of relief after Harmony had left him wanting. The woman on her knees swallowed every last drop he gave her, moaning as she did so. The moment she stood, Caspen left too.

The walk to the cave was a long one. Caspen used the time to think, ruminating on what his father had said.

It was true that his human student needed to win; things were tenuous between the quivers, and it was imperative that the scales remained tipped in their favor.

Participating in the training was a surefire way to improve your rank, to accumulate power.

When basilisks fucked, it was a mutual act between equals.

Fucking a human was something else entirely.

Predator fucking prey. Humans gained animalistic pleasure and nothing more from it; basilisks gained everything.

Caspen was addicted to the power he could draw from the girls, as were all basilisks who participated in the training.

He stared at the cave entrance, deep in thought.

He could sense the humans outside: eleven women, all twenty years old.

A small crop this year. Judging by their heartbeats, they were nervous.

Their questions and concerns were always the same: Will the prince think I am pretty?

Am I good enough in bed? The repetitiveness was ceaseless and unbearable, the sex boring and routine.

It was not difficult to teach them the basic skills of seduction when they knew so little to begin with.

Even the most experienced girl had done nothing but thrash around with the village boys.

The thought of such primitive fucking made Caspen want to fall asleep.

Suddenly, he straightened. A girl was approaching his cave.

It was said that Kora’s magic drew the girls to their basilisks, pairing them in a way that was fated.

His girl would have stood outside until she felt compelled to enter.

It was not uncommon for there to be a long wait; human girls were finicky and timid.

They could take some convincing to come inside.

When that was the case, Caspen could do nothing but be patient.

At last, a heartbeat approached.

Caspen stood perfectly still so as not to scare her. It was in his best interest for the girl to be at ease. At least, as at ease as she could possibly be in the presence of a predator. Caspen knew that humans found him attractive; it worked in his favor.

Finally, she entered.

The girl was tall, with long hair that was so blond it was almost white.

By all basic concepts of beauty, he supposed she was attractive.

Yet at the sight of her, Caspen’s cock did not even twitch.

It took more than the basic concepts of beauty to interest him these days.

He could think only of Harmony—of her soft lips, her glowing skin.

This girl could not hope to compare. She stopped in front of him, standing a cautious distance away.

When she did not speak, Caspen asked, “What is your name?”

Her name was of no concern to Caspen. He did not remember a single name of the students he had trained over the decades.

Most basilisks did not learn their students’ names at all.

But in Caspen’s opinion, it seemed like poor form to fuck someone without knowing their name, even if it was only a human.

“Constance,” the girl replied.

She did not ask for Caspen’s name in return. That was not unusual; no one ever asked for it. Apparently, to the humans, his name was not worth knowing.

“Very well,” he said. “Undress, Constance.”

The girl did not hesitate. One moment her dress was on her shoulders, the next it had dropped to the cave floor. Usually the sight of a naked body would cause Caspen to harden immediately. But this girl was nothing special.

Caspen stepped forward, and Constance’s eyes widened.

“Do not be afraid,” he said. “I am not here to hurt you.”

It was the truth. They would not even touch tonight; that would come later.

Caspen circled her slowly, taking in every inch of her skin.

She had impressive breasts and not much else.

Perhaps that would be enough; for most men, it usually was.

Once Caspen had seen every angle of Constance, he extended his hand toward her stomach and closed his eyes, feeling for the life force that resided within all humans.

There was a significant concentration in her uterus, which meant she was fertile.

He dropped his hand. At no point had Constance questioned him or even made a single noise.

The apathy of humans would never cease to amaze him.

He did not share Agnes’s fascination—he did not think they were even remotely equal to the basilisks.

Women like Constance only solidified his view.

“Sit down,” Caspen said.

Constance sat.

“Spread your legs and let me see inside you.”

Constance hesitated but did as she was told. Caspen knelt before her.

Her pussy was fine—nothing out of the ordinary. Caspen could not look at it without imagining Harmony’s instead.

“Am I…good enough?” Constance asked.

Caspen had been asked that many times before. All human women seemed to wonder the same thing. He gave the same answer he always did: “You are satisfactory.”

He stood but not before catching the look of disappointment on Constance’s face.

He knew she wanted him to compliment her pussy.

It would be an honor for a basilisk to find it attractive.

But Caspen was not here to hand out compliments.

No human woman could possibly compel him the way Harmony did—no one could draw his focus in the same way.

“We are done for tonight,” he said. “You will return at the same time tomorrow. Do not be late.”

He turned and left. He did not linger to see Constance get dressed, nor did he walk her to the foot of the trail. There was no need to do anything other than what he had just done. He had other ambitions for the night, and they did not involve a human woman.

We will finish this later.

He was going to find Harmony and make her keep her word.
