“Don’t you think this changes things?” she asked through the speaker phone. I took a deep breath and rolled my eyes at Luna.
This is precisely why I don’t deal with the peons in my organization. They’re really very annoying, and I couldn’t care less about their feelings.
Alas, Silver had been called away to deal with other things, and I was the one stuck on the phone with the nurse Luna had recruited for us several years ago.
I muted the phone. “Is she always this dramatic?” I asked. “Why the fuck did you bond her and get her involved with us? I find her voice very grating.”
Luna shrugged and gave me a sly smile. “She has great access to drugs and she gives good head. Better than you.”
“Huh,” I said. “Can I give her a try?”
“Can’t speak for how she handles a dick, but you’re welcome to join us and find out.”
“It would seem a much more interesting thing for her mouth to be doing than how she’s using it now with the way she’s prattling on.”
I sighed deeply and unmuted the phone. “If this alpha hasn’t claimed him, then no, it changes nothing. I want the bond between Ryder and Felix broken. At this point, I don’t care how you stupid fuckers do it. Kill one of them. Kill them both. Hold Ryder at gunpoint until he reverses the bond.”
Hey, that one’s actually entertaining. Maybe I should do that.
“Ryder doesn’t know what he’s doing at all. He’s a loose cannon, sir,” the female on the phone said. “You’re risking too much exposure.”
“I still think he’ll be useful to me.”
“In what way?” she pressed.
“I don’t see how that’s any of your business,” I said. “Though, I’ll admit, him showing up to the hospital is not what we agreed to.”
“So get rid of him and your problem is solved. There are too many eyes here. The alpha never leaves Felix’s side, there’s another nurse who I think is suspicious of me, and the alpha is friends with the police. The sheriff came last night just to sit with him for an hour. This is bad.”
“Luna, you’d better get a muzzle for your mate before I decide that offing her is more interesting to me than this conversation.”
“Babe,” Luna said, voice annoyingly calm.
I swear, everyone else has to be faking their emotions as much as I do. And that therapist called me a sociopath? Um, hello, dipshit, we’re all sociopaths. I’m just better at it than them.
As usual.
“Goodbye,” Luna said before hanging up the phone.
Did I miss something? Oh well.
“She’ll continue with the plan, but you need to get Ryder working with us and not running around rouge. Our best bet to ensure permanent damage to Felix’s memory is to keep him sedated for as long as possible. Ryder needs to use his status as Felix’s mate to our advantage.”
I sighed. “Ugh, this is becoming far less fun and a great deal more work than I expected. I just wanted to play with the little twat.”
“Are you going to tell him?” she asked.
“Yes!” I yelled. “I need to get back to work. I’ll call him on the way and tell him what needs to happen.”
Maybe I ought to just light the whole lot of them on fire and start fresh.
I would enjoy the smell of charred flesh.
Hm.
