Chapter 11
Adler
Ididn't want to go into the office today or any day that I have Violet in my home, but Kellan Morse demanded to see me.
He offered to come to my house for the meeting, I'm just not willing to risk him seeing my little pet. He doesn't deserve to see the beautiful woman wearing my collar. He doesn't deserve to see her naked and leashed.
He even offered to bring me to his business for our meeting, but he works on the docks, and I'd rather burn than go near water. I hate open water, I hate boats, I hate the beach, and I hate the sea.
The thought of creatures living and swimming in the river creeps me out.
While the rest of Hollow Trails may be oblivious to what happens in this town, I'm not.
I know the river is filled with failed experiments, monsters that strayed so far from humans that they have no free will.
They have nothing but the instinct to kill and breed.
I've seen them.
I head into my office, Brice and Nico at my sides as we walk toward the conference room. “How's that little pet of yours?” Nico asks with a small chuckle.
“Delicious.” Brice says with a loud bark of laughter. I roll my eyes at my friend and colleague, shoving into his shoulder.
I smile at the thought of my obedient girl spending the whole day in my bed, naked and collared while waiting for me to return. “She's perfect, currently in bed waiting for me.” I brag.
The only thing I dislike about my girl is that I will be sending her back to that brothel in three weeks, but it must be done. I don't settle down. I can't.
The three of us walk into our meeting with our heads held high, staring down at the gentleman and his team of goons already waiting for us. “Morse.” I say flatly.
Kellan Morse, with his low-quality suit, jet-black hair, and permanent scowl glares at us when we walk in. “Mr. Lewis.” He says coldly.
As soon as Brice, Nico, and I are seated, Kellan begins his pitch. “As you may have already discovered, we deal in a few illegal things. We're willing to cut you in if you keep this quiet and offer security on our illegal businesses.” He offers.
I grin, I haven't even looked into him yet and I have no idea what Brice and my guys found, but he's already showing his hand. “And what is it you're involved in? That will decide our cut for protection.” I reply.
Kellan huffs, opening a folder and tossing it my way. I grab it, flipping the first few pages and seeing that he owns the brothel in town, several strip clubs, and something I'm not familiar with. Some company called “The Better Inc.”
I flip open the report on this unknown company, rage flooding through me when I see it's a renaming for the government's experiments on soldiers. It's what turned my unit and me into what we are, monsters. “How heavily involved are you in The Better?” I ask curiously.
I need to know if he dies slowly or very quickly and if it's just him or his entire family.
Kellan shrugs, taking a large sip from his water before answering. “We recruit customers from the brothel. A bitch complains about a client too many times, he comes and sees us.” He admits with a sickening grin.
“Let's kill him.” The alien part of me is screaming in my head, making me desperate to listen. “Firstly, never call another escort a bitch. Secondly, you're kidnapping people to experiment on them?” I ask.
Kellan grins, nodding his head like he thought I'd be impressed.
“The ones that succeed, we ship them off to some lab in another country for more testing.
The ones that fail we kill or throw in the river.
Either way, we get paid. So are you in or not?
We'd even allow you to use the company to dispose of any problem people you have, for a price, of course.” He offers.
Nico glares at me, cracking his neck and I know his alien is fighting its way to the surface just as badly as mine is. I know he's asking permission to unleash Hell on this man, permission I won't grant. Not yet at least.
“We'll consider it.” I lie.
I won't, but it's enough to get Kellan and his goons out of my office while I think of a plan.
Nico jumps up and practically shouts as soon as Kellan shuts the door behind him. “You're not really considering it, are you?” He yells.
Brice even pulls at his hair, letting out a frustrated huff. “If they're operational again, why haven't they tried coming for us? Should we be worried?” He asks nervously.
I glare at Nico, making him somewhat cower and sit back down. “Absolutely not, but he is our in. We may be able to shut them down for good.” I remind him. As for Brice, I don't have an answer for him. I wish I did.
We thought the business had died when our unit escaped and burned the lab to the ground, clearly, we were wrong.
I stand up, buttoning my suit jacket while my two men follow behind. “I'm heading home. Brice, have Sebastian or Collin look into the company.” I demand, tossing him the folder given to me by Kellan.
I've been gone far longer than I had anticipated and what seems to be my new schedule has me itching to bend Violet over the first piece of furniture I encounter.
