Chapter 20
Adler
Ifeel Violet finally sag against my leg, fully asleep while my men and I talk. I don't comment, I don't even acknowledge to my guys that she's fallen asleep. I just leave her be and pet her beautiful curls while we continue our meeting.
So far, we've established that they're not looking to get my unit back simply because they have no need for us. We're too well-trained and in sync with our alien half.
At least that's one positive. So far, it's the only one.
I'm not loving that so many residents of this town have gone missing, kidnapped, or sold to this fucking company in an attempt to further their experiments. Sebastian concluded that since we escaped, at least 5,000 people have disappeared because of The Better Inc.
It's disgusting.
Brice is struggling to find out who the scientists are, I guess this pace is kept pretty quiet. Nobody knows where it is or who works there, nobody has since we burned it down.
How can a company this horrendous stay hidden for the last 80 years? It's infuriating and we need to put a stop to it. But how?
“I'm not staying in this fucking town if they're still here!” Dylan shouts.
Violet jumps, picking her head up and fixing her posture back to her learned position.
I'm just furious that he woke her. “Settle the fuck down, Dylan.” I spit.
I run my hand through Violet's hair, gaining her attention until she looks at me.
“How about you climb up here and take a nap?” I ask quietly.
While Violet smiles and happily listens to my request, a few of my guys look at me strangely. They know I normally never allow my pets on the furniture, or at least not very often, but Violet is different. Plus, she's uncomfortable and not feeling well this week.
Violet settles against me, her face almost laying over top of my cock and her body curled into as small of a ball as she can manage. She has her back to my guys, which I'm sure was her intention.
“We will handle them, give us time. If you're that afraid, stay with someone else and never go out at night alone. Don't hunt alone if you're nervous, but I think if they had planned to take us back, they would have done it by now.” I point out while stroking Violet's hair.
Sebastian stands up, covering Violet with a blanket before taking his seat again.
I know he misses having his own pet in the house.
He and his last serious relationship ended when he refused to mate her.
I don't blame him, I never intend to mate anyone, it's safer that way.
For us and for any woman we could possibly care about.
Right?
Sebastian sighs heavily but I can tell he's trying to keep his voice low so as to not wake Violet. I don't think he realizes she's awake, she's just comfortable and quiet. “So how do we figure out where this place is?” He asks.
Violet doesn't move from her spot, she doesn't move a muscle actually, but she does answer. “Why don't you offer them someone like that guy said you could?” She says quietly.
Dylan scoffs, rolling his eyes and flopping back harder into his seat on the adjacent couch. “You want us to pay this psychopath and give him someone? For fucking what?” He snaps.
I don't get the chance to warn Dylan about his tone before Violet speaks again. “Nobody said you actually had to pay him or give him somebody, but if you set up disposing of someone you'd find out where they are.” She answers matter-of-factly.
“She's got a point, we don't have to give them a body, just make them think we are until we get an address.” Sebastian says with a shrug.
I pinch the bridge of my nose harshly, this entire conversation and this entire plan is maddening. “Fine. Nico, set it up.” I demand.
This had better work.
