17. Chloe
CHAPTER 17
CHLOE
I couldn’t say why Sabien made me lose control.
He wasn’t the kind of guy I ever thought I’d be interested in. If anyone, I always saw myself with someone like Kain. Kain reminded me of myself. He was the responsible one. I was willing to bet cold hard cash that Kain was a straight A student. The kind of guy who kept his room tidy and who would do the dishes without anyone having to ask him to do it.
In comparison, Sabien’s energy was wild.
He had that same handsome face that I was already drawn to because of Kain, but being with him could not feel more different. On the outside, he appeared calm and put together. Beneath it, his energy was explosive. He was a whirlwind, a natural disaster. Like he was always on the cusp of some impromptu adventure, or of throwing himself straight into danger.
Being with him felt like flinging off a bra after a long day.
Before spending time with him, I had no idea that he was exactly what I needed. I felt freed from a cage that I didn’t even know that I’d fallen into. I felt like I’d been thrown straight into the deep end, into the refreshing waters that soothed away all the stress I didn’t even know was there.
It was Sabien’s turn. He had been leaning casually against the wall, eyes never leaving me. But now, as he appraised the damage I’d done, I could see the animal hunger in his expression. Something wild within him was rising to the surface, happy to be let out to play.
Suddenly he slammed his bat down, cracking across the hood of the car with the explosive crash of metal on metal.
Damn. He hit hard .
Sabien didn’t stop there, swinging the bat again and again, until the entire door frame twisted under the force of the blows. Even under the protective suit, I could see how his biceps flexed with each swing, how the muscles in his back bunched up.
Oh, fuck.
He was sexy.
I couldn’t help it. All the chaos and destruction within him was drawing me in. I was the moth flirting with the flame. Captivated by the disaster. I wouldn’t be able to stop myself if I tried.
Sabien abruptly stopped pummeling the car, as his eyes met mine.
It was as if he could read the emotions rioting within me as if they were written all over my face. He dropped his baseball bat, letting it clatter to the floor. Sabien headed over and pulled me close. Wrapping his arms around me until my waist was nestled against his. Until I could feel his hardness pressing against me, impossible to ignore.
I couldn’t help it, all I wanted was to feel him closer.
“You want to get out of here?” His smooth voice was a purr in my ear.
Yes. Yes, I wanted that so bad that it shocked me.
