20. Brutus
CHAPTER 20
brUTUS
I’d had my eye on the twins immediately.
The moment I saw them, I knew in my gut that the two of them were everything I’d ever wanted for a pack. What wasn’t obvious was why none of the others had realized it. But that didn’t matter now.
They were mine.
I’d come in and snatched them up before any other alphas could even wrap their minds around the fact that the two of them weren’t even an option anymore. All that was left for the three of us to complete our pack was an omega, perfectly suited to us.
I’d put aside money—for months—working longer hours and cutting back on basic luxuries. Through it all, I kept reminding myself that it would be worth it. They deserved nothing but the best. I was making these sacrifices so that my pack would get the best scent match that the Valentine’s Division had to offer.
People often said that the best things in life came free—obviously none of those people had tried caviar.
Then when I was a couple weeks away from putting our deposit down at the Institute, Kain returned home with a dazed look on his face, announcing that he’d found our scent match.
It didn’t seem real.
From everything that I’d heard about the statistics and probability, at the bare minimum, it should have taken us years after forming our pack to find her.
So I did the only reasonable thing I could—I paid a hacker to background check Chloe.
Was this omega even who she said she was?
What were the chances that she was actually the sister of an alpha Kain had a crush on? (I’d agreed with Kain about interviewing for Titus’ pack, because obviously I’d do anything to keep my twins happy. Even if it meant sharing them. I could share them… a little. It wasn’t as if I was a completely possessive asshole.)
But I’d made a gross error. In waiting to see if Chloe was actually our scent match, and not some woman who’d purchased sketchy pheromones to trap the twins, Sabien had gone and been a little shit.
It had been the first time he’d called me in weeks , and I’d found out that he was having bad sex with our scent match.
What the fuck was his problem? He actually thought that it was okay that he’d bored her during sex. How was he not ashamed that the little omega actually wanted someone to bring her books to entertain her—when he was still inside of her?
Sabien was on track to fuck up the entire pack’s chances with our scent match before I even had a chance to meet her.
Besides, the background check revealed that she was who she said. Her family just had like a few dozen kids. It only made sense that our scent match was related to that guy Kain had been drooling all over.
The report also revealed that Chloe was on track to becoming the Valedictorian of her class. Her academic performance was pristine—she’d never even gotten less than a ninety-seven on any of her exams. It was at that moment that I knew that I had made a mistake. Obviously this girl was our scent match—I’d always known that our omega would be phenomenal.
All I had to do was unfuck up the mess Sabien had left for me.
I’d let him get away with too much recently—he’d pissed me off so bad that I had taken to avoiding him, rather than correcting all of his misbehavior.
It was just about time for me to fuck the attitude out of him.
