Weak

Calista

“Iwant my lawyer! You have to give me a phone call. You can’t do this.

I’m not a criminal. I have rights, and you’re stepping all over them.

” I scream the words, my voice turning hoarse from repeating the same things over and over again.

I would think the alpha agent was a brick wall with how he stands firm with his arms crossed, not reacting to anything I do or say.

“You’re going to lose your job. You know damn well that it’s illegal to separate me from my alphas.

I’ve done nothing wrong. You have no proof.

” I circle in place, wishing I could find the power to step into the agent’s face.

But I don’t trust him. I don’t know who he really is and what he is capable of. I can’t put myself in danger.

“This is an investigation,” the agent surprises me by saying. “If we didn’t have reasonable cause, we wouldn’t be here. Now please, sit down. Let us do our jobs. If you don’t cooperate, we will have to relocate you.”

Oh, hell no.

I don’t test him and sit down on the couch by the desk. I wonder if I could move fast enough to trigger the door of the panic room. I don’t know why they chose to bring me into the study. Maybe because it has the sturdiest door in the estate.

“That won’t be necessary. You still need to let me speak to my lawyer.

Just give me one phone call. If you do, then you won’t have to worry about retaliation.

Because you know you are breaking the law.

You think you’re protected, but you’re not.

I see how easily the United Alphas turn on people.

Especially when it comes to omegas. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

They weren’t very nice to my father. The piece of shit. ”

I hate arguing and even admitting a little piece of my past. I don’t know why they think I’m a murderer. I didn’t do anything. I just wish I could remember more besides my innocence. How did the Federal Alphas even know? They had to have been given an anonymous tip, but from—

The door creaks open, yanking me from my thoughts. I can smell Ivy before she even enters the room. Of course this was her doing.

Sucking in another breath, I turn my attention to Will as he stands behind her. His scent triggers something feral inside me. He’s dangerous. He’s disgusting.

“Hey, sweetheart. I knew I should’ve fought more to keep you.

You’re in this situation because I didn’t push back against the law hard enough.

I’m so sorry, Cali. But don’t you worry.

I’m here now. I won’t let them lock you up.

They know how successful I am at rehabilitation.

” Ivy keeps her distance, her gaze flicking around the room as if she’s trying to memorize every inch of it.

She doesn’t look at me though. She’s far too cowardly to actually confront me.

“This was you!” I scream, jumping to my feet. “Of course, it was fucking you. You were just so mad that I chose to stay here with my pack. You were pissed off that you couldn’t make any more money off of me.”

“Cali, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I heard that you were in trouble, and so I came. I just want to help you. Please, calm down.” Ivy raises her hands in surrender and braves stepping closer. She’s treating me like a scared animal, and it only angers me more.

“You don’t want to rot in prison, do you?” Will asks, keeping away. “Do you have any idea what they do with murdering omegas? If you don’t let us help you, you will regret not accepting my proposal.”

Ivy hisses at him, glaring. “Shut up, Will. You’ve done enough damage. Get over your ego and let me handle the situation.”

The situation. That’s all that I am in this moment.

“I didn’t murder anyone.” I dig my nails into my palms, doing my best to keep it together. I feel like a bomb about to detonate. Except I wouldn’t be taking everyone with me. I’d be doing all the damage to myself and my future.

“The evidence says otherwise. You had his blood all over you. You were retaliating. You wanted so badly to hurt the pack that was causing trouble for your alphas. You wanted so badly just to see him bleed.” Will steps forward. “Isn’t that right?”

“I…I don’t know. I don’t remember anything. I just know who I am, and I’m not a killer.” My voice cracks.

“You killed Alexander. This is your fault. You’re a murderer.” Will pins me with his gaze, his large form blocking my view of everyone else.

My mind spins with his words, and suddenly, I’m outside City Hall. Will’s snarling face hovers over me, his voice muttering and piercing my very being.

It was him.

Will killed Alexander for disobeying his orders. He drugged me. He wants me to face the wrath of the devil that lingers inside him and every alpha who doesn’t respect omegas.

“Now let me help you. If you don’t, you’ll face a lifetime of imprisonment.” Will keeps his hands in front of him, but I know like a snake, he will strike me at any second. He’s waiting for the chance. Ivy remains quiet, contemplating what or if she should do anything.

“If I let you help me, I’ll face a lifetime of breeding servitude. I know the truth. This was your fault. This was your doing. You should’ve just kept your mouth shut, because I remember now.” My knees shake, my body waiting for me to do something. Anything.

But I’m in a room full of enemies. The Alpha Agent won’t believe me. I have no proof.

Will’s eyes change subtly, the darkness spreading slowly as his demeanor changes. He knows I’m not bluffing. All it will take is one person to believe my words for him to lose everything.

It might not be anyone in this room, but if I yell them loud enough, someone is bound to hear.

I refuse to believe that there is no good left in power despite everything.

My mom was a product of the small amount of good left in the world that was able to take her out of my biological father’s abusive care.

My pack has shown that they are also part of the good.

It just needs to spread farther and wider.

It needs to be brighter than the darkness lingering in the evil of the world. It needs to banish it completely.

And I want to be a part of it. I want the world to know that just because I’m an omega doesn’t mean that I’m bound to the expectations of those who only see me as a mate and nothing more.

“It was you! You killed Alexander! He was trying to stop you from taking me. He said that he had to bring me to Ivy. He said that was the only way he would be accepted into Pack Daines. His brother was there to bear witness. You threatened both of them. You wanted to make me pay for denying you.” My voice comes out stronger than I expect, and the new confidence that takes a hold of me allows me to face Will completely unwavering and unafraid.

My life will be worse if I don’t stand up to him now.

If I allow him to control the narrative into framing me for something I didn’t do.

His ego is far too fragile to resist this confrontation.

I can see it now. I can see the dark thoughts behind his evil eyes.

“What?” Ivy asks, her voice cutting through the heavy silence of Will’s lack of response.

“Will killed Alexander! He stabbed him! He drugged me and wanted to frame me for it as punishment for my rejection.” I curl my fingers into fists, holding as steady as I can against Will’s glowering form.

He’s trying to think things through, and I can’t let him.

I have to show what kind of alpha he really is. Despicable. Little. Unworthy.

“Tell them, Will. Tell them how small a man you are that you had to kill another just to try to get an omega. Because no one could ever want you. You are disgusting. You are weak. You are—”

Will rushes toward me, trying to grab my throat. “Shut up, you bitch!” He manages to snatch my collar, but I yank myself free, losing my shirt but not even caring that I’m left standing in my bra.

Ivy and the alpha agent don’t do anything. It’s as if they are dumbfounded by the whole situation. I’m left to fend for myself.

I run toward the desk and use it as a shield, not allowing Will to get within reach again. “Do something!” I don’t know if I’m yelling at Ivy or the Alpha Agent. I just want someone to intervene.

“Will, stop this instant. If you lay a hand on her, you’ll be thrown out of Pack Daines and onto the street. She is clearly in duress. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.” Ivy’s sharp tone stops Will in his tracks.

Her words send my heart tumbling to my stomach.

“You know how omegas get when they’re scared.

They will say and do anything.” Ivy swivels and looks at the Alpha Agent.

“Isn’t that right? You’ve seen it for yourself, haven’t you?

She needs to be in my custody. Something happened, and it’s really messed with her head. I think we might need a sedative.”

Oh, no.

Oh, fuck no.

I don’t even give the Alpha Agent time to react before I slam my hand onto the button that opens the safe room. Without hesitating, I grab the lamp from Nolan’s desk and chuck it at Will, bashing it into his head. It gives me the few seconds I need to unlock everything.

I dash into the panic room and slam my hand on the button to close it, cutting me off from Ivy, Will, and the Alpha Agent.

They won’t be able to open it. They won’t be able to get to me.

I just hope this gives Pack Kismet time to figure things out.

If they can’t, at least I can say we tried.

I won’t go down without a fight.

My mother didn’t raise me to be obedient. She raised me to be free.

I’ll do whatever it takes to see it through.

No one will control me again.

No one.
