Orso

The whole team is through the gate by the time Kallis disappears among them.

“Where did Dr. Tully go? She is disappointed with your abs?” Tanner smirks, tapping his bare chest. “Mine are way better, so I should go and give her some eye candy.”

“Is that literally all you care about? Go bother someone else with that shit,” I growl.

From how she and Mathan looked at each other, something important had happened, and I needed to stop the bubbly feeling that already has a stupid grin forming on Mathan’s face.

We can’t afford to get even more distracted by her, especially after the way that game went.

It’s her fucking fault my mate has his arm tied up in a sling in the first place.

Tanner saunters away, and I take a slow breath so I don’t tackle him and snarl at him to stay the fuck away from her.

“That was the first time we’d been alone together since she told us she didn’t want to be with us. Why did she run away?” Artie pout.

I give him a pointed look, but our young mate doesn’t get it. We aren’t exactly the best on the market at the moment, and Dr. Tully isn’t shopping around.

“We should probably go after her. Just to make sure she’s okay. I wouldn’t want her to feel upset or anything, and Tanner leering at her doesn’t freaking help,” Artie says, worrying his bottom lip.

“It’s better to just leave her for now,” Mathan replies, but his blissed-out energy tells us he’s already had his fill of her.

“But it’s been months, Mathan. I’m getting bored of waiting. Haven’t we left it for long enough?”

“It wasn’t about waiting,” I snap. “It’s about not making sexual innuendos and respecting her fucking boundaries. Ones I want to keep in place, too,” I say, glaring at Mathan, who just shrugs.

I don’t want to say she’s not our mate when my alpha side is yelling that it’s not true. I need to swallow down the urge, even though every ounce of my body is telling me to claim her. Again.

I don’t want to tell my mates I think I can feel Kallis inside me, like whispers of our broken bond still remain. They are so crazy about her that if they find out there’s a chance she’s still connected to me, they’ll push harder, especially Artie.

It’s only when I’m close to her that I sense echoes of her emotions, like I would if my mates were miles away. I still have a longing for that briefest moment when I was connected to all three of them, and I make sure to beat it away so it can’t tempt me.

I want to ask Kallis if she can feel it too, but since everything I do makes her furious, asking her about the bond would probably be the last straw.

Artie is blabbering away about how much he wants to go after her, even though he’s waiting for my permission to leave.

“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” I ask Mathan, because Artie hasn’t noticed that he looks high as a kite.

“That scent of honey really stays with you,” Mathan says wistfully, and I roll my eyes. I’d already told them that, but seeing, or scenting, is believing.

“What!?” Artie yelps. “You scented her? How did you do it? How did she respond?”

“She pressed her neck against my nose,” Mathan said.

I sigh, because he’s obviously making it up. “People don’t just press their necks against people like that. Especially not Dr. Tully.”

A smile creases his lips. “Aye, I don’t know. I could give it another wee try and see?”

A growl rumbles from me, and he looks at me in surprise.

“What’s up?” he asks. “Was that too far?”

“We’ve already talked about this. Actually, we’ve done this too many times. She said she wants to be left alone, so we leave her alone. It’s simple.”

“But she was fawning all over Mathan,” Artie pipes up. “Every time I looked, you guys were chatting and laughing together, so it’s not like it was one-sided,” he huffs.

This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen. Part of me hoped that Mathan and Artie weren’t her matches. Then I could handle it all by myself.

This game is the most important of the season to me, because I’ve been here every single fucking year we’ve lost to the Red Riders.

Again and again and again, to the point where those arrogant fucks just assume they are always going to beat us.

And throughout the whole game, our goalies weren’t focused.

“We finally won against the Riders, isn’t that enough?” I ask.

Artie shook his head. “I wanted to be up here with Mathan.”

“This is exactly what I’m fucking talking about,” I say. “She’s a distraction we don’t need. No matter how much she smiles, she doesn’t want a mate, so stop flirting with her. Don’t make this into something complicated and just concentrate on our games.”

“Then why are you smirking like that when you don’t even smile when we fuck?” Mathan asks, raising a brow.

I pause, flattening my lips, and I realize he’s right. Sighing, I press my hand against my face. I can’t even pretend I’m not feeling it when I’m being so obvious.

But I don’t want the three of us to be ruined because of a new omega.

Mathan is a monster in bed, and it’s incredible, but he complains about the serious look on my face. Artie is a playful lover, and the two of us clash, which makes it even hotter when we pour our love onto Mathan, who’s always happy to receive it.

And I don’t like the heat that rolls through me when I think about how it would change if we added Kallis to our dynamic.

Artie has been pent up since we met her, and he’s ready to pounce on her whenever. We’ve been fucking almost every night just to stop him from going wild, but I don’t know if we’re going to be able to maintain it now that Mathan has screwed up his arm.

Artie acts like every omega wants a bite, but if the scent match upsets Kallis more than it makes her happy, we need to find a way to create an easy life for her.

And she’s made it clear how to do that. It’s just become more difficult to stay the fuck away from her, especially now that we’ve seen her smile.
