Chapter 16 Ashlyn
ASHLYN
Nomad Lands, Canada
Heat blasts through my veins, making every motion feel impossible as I try to craft as many wards as possible throughout the house.
There’s a basement—which I considered hiding in, but then I’ll be trapped when the Alphas make it through the security measures.
And that just seems pointless.
I may as well be upstairs, like my visions suggested, so that I can at least try to jump out of a window. Or watch the sun. Or just… be a little comfortable while they…
I swallow, not wanting to finish that train of thought.
Instead, I busy myself with trying to create as many protective runes as possible.
Which hurts.
A lot.
Because it requires standing.
Come on, Ash…
The howls are getting louder. Explosions erupt as Grey’s wards are crossed. And I know the Alphas are nearing the cabin.
It’s only a matter of maybe an hour now. Probably less.
My stomach churns.
The snowmobile is too far away for me to even try to escape on it. Not that I can in this condition.
I’m about to lose my mind to lust.
And my body to… a series of ruts.
I bite my lip to keep from crying. Tears won’t help.
All I can do now is try to fight.
I grab Grey’s bag of guns and ammunition, and drag it upstairs with me. For as long as I’m awake—or as long as I have a working weapon—I’ll shoot.
Because I’m going to make these assholes bleed.
You want me? I think, cocking a shot gun. Come and fucking get me.
