Chapter 10
Three Months Later
Abby
With a genuine smile, I set drinks down in front of Delmar and Nina. “I haven't seen you guys in forever!”
“Don't be dramatic,” Nina said with a grin. “We all swam together on Monday.”
“But it’s Friday,” I said. “Monday was so long ago, my seal can't remember.”
“Don't worry,” Delmar said, tapping his head. “We krakens have perfect memories.”
I scoffed. “So it wasn't you who ran out of gas?”
“Rumors,” he said with his familiar boyish grin.
“Are you flirting with my mate?” Archer said, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my middle. I leaned back against him, feeling his warmth through our clothing.
“I have a selkie of my own,” Delmar said. “And she's a lot less scary than your selkie.”
I rolled my eyes. After I’d killed Frank and Cliff, everyone decided I was a badass.
I wasn't. I only had vague memories of the whole incident.
The entire morning was like a dream from the first time Cliff punched me up until I “woke-up” in bed at my apartment surrounded by wolf shifters and one flesh knitter working her magic on Archer.
After Archer explained what had happened, I thought I'd feel guilty. The only thing I felt was relief.
I was free. I was truly free. All the men who had tormented me were gone. What Delmar started by squishing Mayor Norris, I'd ended with Frank's gun.
The last three months had been nothing but perfect. Well, the healing process hadn't been fun. Flesh knitter magic was painful. When she'd turned her attention from Archer's stab wound to my face, I almost tried to leave.
It was only the deeply concerned expressions on all the wolves’ faces that kept me still as the knitter worked. It hurt like hell while she used her magic, but when she was done all the injuries were gone, and I could think clearly again.
Adora came over. “You should leave early. I can feel that it's going to be light today.”
Normally I'd argue, but my mate was holding me, and he smelled like the sea.
“Let me ask Will and make sure he's okay with that,” I said.
Adora shook her head. “He suggested it. I'm only the messenger.”
“Go!” Delmar urged, as one of his tentacles appeared and waved me to the door. Nina grabbed it and pulled the limb into her lap. He gave her a sheepish look. “Sorry.”
“We should leave before Nina lets go and Delmar goes all kraken on us,” Archer whispered, making me giggle.
“You turn into a legendary giant sea monster and destroy one town, and no one lets you forget it,” Delmar said with an exaggerated, pained sigh.
Nina snorted, and the rest of us laughed.
Adora asked what Delmar and Nina wanted to order, and Archer guided me away from the table and to the back.
“The sea is calling,” he whispered.
“I know,” I murmured. Very soon we'd be in our seal forms, frolicking in the cold Pacific.
The best part was that we'd do it again tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that. It was the happiest life I could imagine.
