Chapter Sixteen Lash
We headed home, I decided it was the best option to get to the six kids that are with Cane and Cannon first, then I’ll head to the hospital in Briarfield.
My dad texted me before I headed out that Cane and Cannon came and brought the kids to the clubhouse so that they could be around more family.
So I think heading home is the best option to see the kids who know something is going on and to comfort them.
I mean I know that Peyton and the Untamed Rebels are with the boys.
I need to head there, name them and get eyes on them.
I can’t wait for them all to be in the same space.
I hope that Sophie can get out of this soon and that we will all be okay.
I just want everyone under one roof. I swear that I am going to kill every person that took part in trying to hurt my family.
I hate that I’m going to be meeting the twins without Sophie, that I am going to be naming them without her.
I know the names she picked out and I know that many of our family members are going to be surprised by the names we decided on.
That we are changing up our pattern with the D names.
Thankfully we talked about this before she went into labor.
I wish that she was here, I know that this is going to be so hard for her when she wakes up.
Missing these moments is not something either of us saw happening.
As we pull up to the clubhouse the prospect opens the gates for us and we head to our parking spaces and park. Before I get off my bike, I pull out my phone and dial Peyton.
“Toby? Oh my gosh, are you okay? Is Sophie okay? What is going on?”
“Listen, Pey, calm down okay. Sophie is in really bad shape. They have her in a medically induced coma. I can’t go over everything right now, I’ve got to go in and talk to the kids. How are the boys?”
You can hear her sniffling on the line, “They are beautiful, Toby.
So strong. They are doing really well for being born premature.
The doctors don’t think they need to keep them all that long.
I mean they are twins so they were going to be born premature, just not this premature.
They are having some help breathing. They could use their mama.
We pulled some strings with the hospital and set them up in a private room, once I explained the situation to the hospital and that we were afraid someone was going to be coming for them, the hospital moved them somewhere more secure.
So we’ve got Untamed Brothers here watching the door and the hospital entrances.
Knox doesn’t want anything to happen to his nephews.
I’ve been staying, of course Knox has come with the triplets and we set up little travel cots for them since I’m nursing the monsters still.
Grim did send up some of his men from the Devil’s Hollow chapter as well, not wanting anything to happen to his new great nephews.
Whip is also here so you have a brother here.
I mean do you want him back? I won’t be torn up to send him back your way?
If I'm being honest Toby, the boys are on the VIP floor.
I guess that is what happens when your ol’ man is the president of the club that makes lots of donations to the hospital and you’re working to become a doctor.
Anyway, I’m rambling. We will move them up to the VIP floor which would give them a suite with nurses right there, plus of course they have me.
But that way you and the kids can come up here and stay.
There is a bunch of room and beds, couches and all the things.
That way you don’t have to be pulled in three different directions.
Then hopefully we can get Sophie transferred here so that they can all be under one roof.
But really, think about it, do you want me to set that up so it is ready for after you tell the kids?
The babies need to have lots of kangaroo time and Knox and myself have been doing it, but it’s not the same.
They need their parents and if they can’t have Soph right now they need their daddy.
I have some pumped breast milk as well as donated breast milk that we have been giving them. Hope that is okay.”
I shake my head, she is giving me tons of information that I just don’t know what to do with.
“Yeah, set that up. It will probably make the kids feel better being close to their brothers.
Plus it will have me closer to Sophie when I visit.
I’ll have to put a call into the kids' school to let them know that they might not be in attendance the first couple of weeks and if they can send homework.
Fuck, at this point I think it might just be best to home school them again like we did for the last few weeks last year.
I know they will miss their friends, but they have other activities they can see them at.
I just am too afraid to let anyone out of my sight at this point.
Your dad is with Sophie, but I’m still terrified.
I appreciate you being there to help with the boys right now while I figure everything out.
But yeah, we would love to have that suite, if you can pull that off that would be amazing.”
With that we say our goodbyes and I take a deep breath to head into the clubhouse.
I don’t know how Bulldog told all his kids about Missy, I know this is not the same situation, but I can’t.
My oldest is 10 and he is a protector, not just his siblings, but he goes hard to protect his mama.
My youngest obviously now is the twins, but second to that is little Delaney and she is 2.
She isn’t going to understand what is going on and where her mama is.
She was taking some time even getting used to the idea of having baby siblings.
She was most definitely not happy about the fact that she was getting brothers.
As I am standing there dreading heading inside I feel a hand on my shoulder and look over and it is my old man, Rocky to the club, but dad to me.
He pulls me into a hug and that is when I break.
“It’s going to be okay, Tobs. I promise. Sophie is so strong, she’s going to pull through this and give us all hell for acting like this. You know it and I know it. That girl has too much to live for. She isn’t going to leave you or those babies of hers.
You know she fought and she is going to keep fighting. The boys are going to be okay too. Everything is going to work out. Your mom and I are here for you and the kids until Sophie gets out of the hospital.”
“Do you think mama will help me homeschool the kids?”
He pulls back and looks at me, hands still on my shoulders, “You know that your mama would do that for you. It helps that she was a teacher. I’ll call the school, explain everything to them that the kids will be doing schooling from home this year.
Then I’ll talk to your mama and get that all taken care of for you. I’m sure you’re mama will figure out what she needs to get for all the kids in order to homeschool them all. Are you going to be here or are you staying at the hospital?”
“Peyton is setting up a suite for us with the twins, so I’m going to take the kids up there to stay with them, plus I will be closer to Soph. If you guys want to come with us you can too. Peyton probably needs a break especially since she has the triplets.”
“You go and see the kids, talk to them, I’ll chat with your mama about what we are going to do, but you know she will more than likely want to come with you. You know your sisters are away at school, so it’s just us here. But you really need to go talk to your kids, especially Declan.
He’s been stressed, he knows something is going on because they aren’t home yet with their mama.”
With that I nod and head over to the entrance of the clubhouse.
I head to the common room because I am sure that is where everybody is, when I walk in sure enough there are my babies with their uncles.
None of them have noticed me walk in, until Declan looks up and makes eye contact with me.
You can see that little boy’s shoulders tense, whether it is the look on my face or something he just feels, but you can tell that he is feeling something is wrong.
He stands up and walks towards me and everyone else in the room turns and looks.
My sweet little Delaney, not noticing anything is wrong, rushes towards me.
“DADDDDDDDDDDDDYYYYYYY!!!”
As she gets to me I bend down and swoop her up into my arms and reach out for Declan. Pulling him into a hug, he looks up at me, tears brimming in his eyes.
“It’s mama, isn’t it.”
I look into those piercing green eyes so similar to mine and feel the familiar sting of tears threatening my eyes. I look up at everyone in the room.
“Can everybody head out, so I can talk to my kids please.”
There are grunts, there are nods, there are yeses.
I know Cannon and Cane want to know what all is going on or maybe they have already heard, I don’t know.
I do know that Cane has a lot going on right now personally and this is just something else that is going to throw him into a dark place.
I don’t know what happened with the woman he was seeing exactly, but I know he fucked it up on purpose because he thought he was protecting her.
I look at my brothers-in-law and before they can head out I grab their attention.
“Can you guys stay? I might need some help after we have this talk to get them all packed up to head to Briarfield. I’m going to have to head to the house for my SUV.”
It’s an obnoxious vehicle, but when you have six kids and two more on the way you have to get an obnoxious vehicle.
Thankfully there is a car with three rows of seats.
If we have anymore we are going to always have to make sure we take two vehicles everywhere.
I also know that we will be having more because I’m going to knock her up so many times we forget about the nightmares that have been happening.
We were doing great, the counseling was getting us somewhere.
I fear that now with all of this, when she wakes up this will be another thing to push her further away from me when all I want to do is hold her closer than ever.
They nod their heads and head back to sit down on the couch next to Dare, Dallas and Dash.
Cane pulls Dallas into his lap and I walk over to sit on the chair across from them with Delaney still on my hip and Declan trailing behind us.
As I sit down, Declan sits down on the floor next to the chair and Daisy comes up and sits next to her big brother grabbing his hand.
