Chapter Twenty-One Lash
I head out of the room after Bulldog and he turns around and looks at me.
“She didn’t mean that. She’s just angry, give her some time she’ll be okay. She didn’t mean any of that. You’re her dad, one of her people. She’s going to be crushed when she comes out of this fog and realizes what she’s said.”
He puts his hand on my shoulder and squeezes.
“It’s okay, you never really hold anything against your kids when they are angry. Every time they tell you they hate you, their attitudes when they are teenagers. I love all my kids and all the kids that we’ve brought into our home. They aren’t perfect, but they're mine. They’re ours,
Missy’s and mine. Sophie has been through a lot and you’re right, if I am who she needs to be angry with then so be it. I can be that person for her even if it breaks my heart she wants me to leave and doesn’t want to talk to me for a while. She’s my girl, my baby girl. I’ll give her her space.
I’ll always be there when she needs me. I did make a promise though, that after she had the babies I’d head out. I think I’m going to do that. Tills and Davis are going to be staying with Tanner. I’ve got some answers I need to get and honestly, I need to head out on the road too.
Morn my ol’ lady on my own in my own way. Take care of my girl and my grandbabies. I love you, Tobs.”
With that he pulls me in for a hug. After he pats my back a couple of times and pulls back looking at me, he turns and walks away.
You can see the heartbreak in his eyes and I hurt for him.
The man has done so much for me and so much for us.
I know Sophie is hurting right now and I know she has so much frustration and so much anger, but Bulldog doesn't need to be her punching bag.
I’m not going to be bringing that up right now, but Sophie is stubborn so even when I bring it up I know that until she is ready to deal with everything she’s not going to apologize or let up on her anger for what has gone on with the club lately.
I go into the twins room and thankfully they are off oxygen and no longer in their incubators. I pick up Lucas and before I bring him to Sophie, I check his diaper and then swaddle him back up and head to the room Sophie is in.
“Here is our boy, Lucas.”
She looks up and smiles. Then I place him in her arms.
“He is beautiful, Toby. I missed two months with them.” She has tears in her eyes. “I missed being able to hold them after they were born. They probably don’t even know me.”
“Give me one minute. I’m going to get Leon. Then we will address all of this.”
I walk back to the other room and grab Leon. Walking back into her room I scoot on the bed next to her holding our boy close so she can see him.
“Baby, they know you. They spent months with you, and even though you were out we talked to them about you and we played videos so they could hear your voice. They know their mama.”
She looks up at me and I lean my forehead down to hers. I press my lips to hers. “We are going to be okay, Soph. We can get through anything. I promise you, everything is going to be okay.”
She nods her head and looks at me, “Did you get them?”
“We got who took you, baby and then some, but not the head of the snake yet.”
“I want to feel safe, Toby. I’m so scared. Before this even happened I was scared. But knowing that we aren’t even safe at home. It just makes it worse.”
“So Lips is Acid’s daughter. She knew some of who was working with him in our businesses and our club. So we’ve got all those bitches and little assholes held at the cabin. We are working on finding more members. The security around the house is better, Wizard upped everything at our house,
cameras and everything. We have a gate around our property now. I’ve been looking into some dog purchases and or adoptions. I know we’ve got a lot on our plate with all the kids, but shit we’ve got enough property on club land and the kids would love a dog.
Plus there is that layer of security with a dog. But, we’ve made sure everything’s good. The kids are being homeschooled by my mom. They still attend their extra stuff like hockey and shit, but they have a bunch of brothers with them when they go. I’m going to keep you all together and safe, baby.”
“Okay, that’s good. I can get behind the dogs. I’ve always wanted pets, you know this. What about my other baby, how’s the shop?”
“Everything’s good, Luca has been helping out.”
She paused and gave me a look.
“Yeah I know, he met Ruby. Don’t know he seems to be smitten. But before you say anything he seems serious. He hasn’t taken anything further with her til Tasha signs those papers. So you know he’s serious. But anyway numbers and everything look good. Your clients miss you, but they understand.
Plus now you’re gonna have rehab and shit too. So you’ll be out longer. I mean it’s a good thing your right arm is good, being your dominant hand and all, but they said you’ll still need rehab for all the injuries you’ve had. But I’ll be here every step of the way.
They are gonna want to keep you here for a little while. There is enough room for us and the kids. Mom and dad are at a hotel helping with the kids. Obviously your dad was too, but I think he’s headed out of town now.”
She nods her head, “I’m fine with all of that. I guess I can deal with Luca being whatever with Ruby. He better be good to her. We have a long way to go Toby. We have a lot of shit to work out together and as individuals. The kids definitely need some help too.”
“We will do everything we can, baby. No matter what, no one or nothing is going to come between us. We have always been end game. I won’t let anyone do anything to tear us apart. They’ve tried and they’ve failed every time. So fuck them. We will get the help we need, we can get through anything.”
I lean down and kiss her lips before we turn back to the babies we are holding.
“I’ve got to get pictures of this moment.”
With that I took my phone out and took a picture of the four of us in bed. Several different poses. Then I handed Leon to Sophie so she could hold both babies and got up to take pictures of her and the boys. I know we have a long way to go, but I feel so complete.
Now we just have to find the assholes that tried to take my family from me. I’m going to destroy all of them.
