Chapter 29

The Plan in Motion

Did you see Dani's face when she saw Janet tonight? I did. I wonder when the catfight is coming.

The guys have visited McCarthy's a few times, so they know the layout of the whole place.

Jaxon made a diagram, and we have studied it all week.

We each have earbuds in our ears that are precisely the color of our flesh.

They are micro in size, so you have to know where they are located to see them in our ears.

Axel's dad owns a multimillion-dollar tech company, and he "loaned" us the equipment tonight in return for an honest review of the products.

We each put a walkie-talkie app on our phone, though, in case the earbuds go out.

Axel, much like his father, is the tech genius out of the group, so he’s in the back of a creepy white kidnapper van hacking into every one of the cameras at the bar as we speak.

I'm past nervous. Thankfully, I'm wearing a tank because otherwise, I'd have pit stains.

That would certainly be attractive. Jake would love it because the guys would be staring, just not in the way that'll get them beat up.

I went over the list of jobs Axel emailed us last night about a million times. We have to act as normal as possible. If Benji feels like we are onto him, we'll never catch him in action. I laugh to myself when I remember what Axel wrote what his job description was.

Jobs tonight:

Jaxon and Hector

1. Hit on all the ladies. #Playas

2. Goof around, like usual. #Dumbasses

3. Pay attention to everything and everyone while not looking like you're paying attention to everything and everyone. #Shaggy #Scooby

Georgia and Jake

1. Dance

2. Drink

3. And be merry!

#SoInLove #YallMakeMeSick

Dallas and Sasha

1. Play pool #KickHisAssSasha

2. Engage in a "fake" fight as a last resort. #BeatHisAssSasha

Axel

1. Be a sexy motherfucker!

#HellYeah #DamnHeFine

The plan is to keep our eyes on Benji at all times. We are in different parts of the bar for that very reason. The security cameras do not cover every area, so we may have to follow him and film him with our phones. Axel is recording on his laptop what's happening right now.

I’m hoping we won't have to take out our phones and be too obvious, and Axel will be able to record a high quality drug deal video.

If we have to film him ourselves, then Sasha and Dallas will get into a fake argument to draw attention away from the one making their directorial debut.

If everything goes according to plan, Benji, won't know what hit him.

We make it inside, and I'm blown away by how beautiful yet simplistic the decorations are.

They have old movie posters on the walls near the entrance like "Smoky and the Bandit" and "Coyote Ugly.

" A mechanical bull is in the middle of the first floor.

Collectible Budweiser signs, WWII propaganda, and Chevrolet memorabilia are sporadically placed on the other walls.

Sasha and I go to the restroom quickly to freshen up and hurry back to our guys, just like we always do. Nothing can seem out of the ordinary. I saw Janet for a split second and rolled my eyes at her. Like, I said, nothing can seem different.

Jake takes my hand and leads me out to the dance floor.

He twirls me around the dark wooden dance floor like a dream.

We're having so much fun, and I almost forget about Benji.

Almost! Then I see him looking at us with an evil glint in his eyes.

I go back to playing my part and focusing on the task at hand.

Axel comes through our earpieces. "Georgia, that boy is in love with you! Seriously, creepy as fuck! Jaxon and Hector, he's on the move, he'll be on your side of the bar in 3...2...1."

Jake growls, he can’t stand the way Benji looks at me.

Hell, get in line. I can’t stand it either.

I try to look over the heads of the growing crowd, but I’m too short to see him now.

The place is packed. Feeling the tension rise, Jake kisses me on my forehead.

"It's okay, baby. Let's have fun until we're up again. "

Jake takes out his fake ID and grabs us both a drink. Me a cocktail and him a Corona. We wait in line to throw darts. "I have never played this before. Have you?"

Jake grins. "Only every other day and twice on Sundays."

I kick him in the shin. "Liar!"

"Ouch!" He laughs.

When it's finally our turn, Jake teaches me how to hold my wrist. "Loosen your wrist and throw it. If you're too tense, you'll overthrow, and you won't hit the bullseye."

Does he even know me? My uptight is uptight. I don't relax, well, unless Jake has given me an orgasm. How am I supposed to loosen my wrist? I laugh as the dart goes sailing through the air and barely sticks to the board. I shrug at him, and he laughs.

"I never said I was good at sports, The Jake Ryan."

"Is that so?"

"It is very much so." I pinch his cheek. I touch my earbud and wait for the beep so that I can ask my question and know everyone else will hear me. "Where's our Asshat?"

It's not long until Axel answers. "He's heading toward the pool tables where Sasha and Dallas are. Guys, you're up next."

I see him out of the corner of my eye. The dartboards are close to the pool tables.

He sits on a stool and talks to a guy from our Lit class.

The guy looks around to make sure no one is watching.

My heart is beating out of my chest because surely they will not exchange money and drugs right here in front of everyone.

The guy goes to give him a handshake. Benji looks around and is satisfied that no one is watching and shakes his hand.

A whisper from Sasha comes through our earpieces. "Guys, he just gave Benji a crisp hundred-dollar bill! I saw it."

"We got you, you lousy son of a bitch." Jake is elated.

"We don't have him yet, because he hasn't given him any drugs yet. I saw Benji's hand, and it was empty when he went to grab the guy's hand. He must ask for the money upfront and then deals them the drugs somewhere else."

After a minute or two, the guy heads toward the bathroom. Hector comes on the speaker. "Looks like I need to take a bathroom break, guys."

Sasha and Dallas fake an argument to cover up Hector walking toward the bathroom. Benji buys it as he looks on with everyone else. He waits a few minutes and makes his way to the bathroom and then Hector sends out a text to all our phones.

Not many people are in here. The guy is standing by the urinal looking like a douche turd. I'm in the stall. I'll start filming when Benji gets in here.

I'm shaking with anticipation. We hear nothing for hours but it's really only been minutes.

Hector walks past us from the bathroom, saying hello and giving Jake a high five.

Everything has to be exactly as it usually would be.

I want to ask him so badly if he was able to film the drug deal, but I don't. The shit-eating grin on his face tells me he did.

What do we do next? He obviously won't go to jail because of this video, but it's a start, at least.
