Chapter 3

He nodded before finding an open spot at the bar. It took a minute for him to get the bartender’s attention. I watched him while he waited for the drinks. When he turned around, he had two drinks in hand, and he nodded toward a less dense area.

I told Skye where I was going before following him. He placed our drinks on a highboy not too far from the bar and stood on the side, facing the door. I stood across from him and picked up my drink.

“Thank you,” I said.

“You’re welcome.”

His voice made my body quiver. It was deep and authoritative, and I couldn’t stop myself from imagining him demanding that I suck or ride his dick. The thought made my nipples hard, and I prayed he couldn’t see them through the thin material of my dress.

“It’s chilly in here,” I said, just in case he’d noticed the pebbles peeking through my shirt.

“You think so?” he responded with a smirk as he lifted his eyes from my chest to my face, which let me know he saw my nipples and had come to his own conclusion about why they were hard. “You know, I’ve been thinking about you since I saw you yesterday.”

I wouldn’t have believed him if visions of him hadn’t taken over my mind after he walked out of Soulful Diner. I woke up in the middle of the night with a wet pussy because of his handsome face invading my dreams.

“Really? That’s interesting.”

“What’s interesting about it?”

I couldn’t tell him that my night was filled with wet dreams about him, so I cleared my throat and asked, “Why didn’t you say anything to me?”

When our eyes connected for the second time at the restaurant, as I was on my way back to my table, I just knew he would stop me. Not only was I surprised when he walked by without even a hello, but I was also disappointed.

“Did you want me to?”

He kept asking questions that would force me to incriminate myself, and I couldn’t tell him how I dreamed of sitting on his face and letting him suck my soul from my loins.

“I expected you to,” I responded.

“I’m sure you did. You’re easily the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Men probably try to spit game at you every time you walk outside.”

I blushed while sipping my drink.

“It’s actually quite the opposite. I don’t get out much, but when I do, men rarely approach me.”

“I find it hard to believe men aren’t telling you you’re beautiful when they lay eyes on you the first time.”

“You’re one of those men, so why are you surprised?”

He nodded, conceding because I’d made a great point.

“Honestly, I don’t usually have a problem approaching women I find attractive, but your beauty had me speechless, and I couldn’t find my words. I decided that if I ever saw you again, I wouldn’t let another opportunity pass me by.”

I could stare at Kilo’s handsome face all day, from the curly fade on top of his head to the luscious beard and mustache that encased a perfect set of lips. His eyes were small and piercing, with thick, well-shaped brows above them. The freckles that covered his light caramel skin were my favorite.

“Are you from Black Elm?” he asked when I didn’t respond.

“Born and raised. You?”

“Chicago, but I actually went to BEU.”

I tilted my head, looking at him with different eyes, trying to see if he looked familiar. I drew a blank but assumed we were around the same age and decided not to share that we may have attended the university at the same time.

“Nice.”

I wanted to grill him to find out more about him, but I didn’t want him to do the same to me, so I refrained. In my younger years, I wouldn’t have been opposed to getting a room at the hotel across the street, getting my rocks off, and moving on with my life.

The older me was much more cautious, a lot more guarded, and not nearly as much of a risk-taker. I wasn’t looking for anything to happen between us aside from sharing a few drinks, and we didn’t need to know much about each other to do that.

The silence became awkward, and I looked down at my almost empty glass to avoid his eyes. I could feel the heat from his gaze, and I’d suddenly become hot. I reached into my purse for the hand fan I kept there and, after flicking it open, began fanning myself.

“I thought you were chilly,” he said, wearing that sexy ass smirk.

“Yeah, well, I guess I’m having a hot flash.”

“Nyomi, do I make you feel flustered?”

He was amused, and I was . . . flustered, just as he suspected. It had been ages since being in the presence of a man made me feel this way. My skin felt like it was buzzing with electricity, and although I did get warm sometimes, I’d never had a real hot flash.

“They umm, they must have turned the air down,” I responded.

My nipples were still hard, my mouth was dry, and there was a puddle forming in the crotch of my panties. I needed to get away from this man before I propositioned him in the most inappropriate way.

We’d barely had a full conversation, and I couldn’t say with 100 percent confidence that I wouldn’t fuck him if the opportunity presented itself. It had to be because it had been five years since I’d been touched by a man. The thoughts I’d been having about Kilo were so out of character for me.

“I don’t think so, baby.”

Why’d he have to go and call me baby?

“I need to use the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”

I scurried away from the table and headed toward the bathrooms, pulling Skye along with me as I was about to pass her.

“Are you okay?” she asked when we reached the bathroom.

I looked in each stall, and once I confirmed they were empty, I told Skye everything.

“Today isn’t my first time seeing Kilo,” I said.

“Why did y’all pretend you’d never met?”

“We weren’t pretending. I saw him yesterday when Nyeem and I went to Soulful Diner for dinner. He was picking up food, and we couldn’t take our eyes off each other, but he left without saying anything, so we didn’t actually meet.”

“Look at God! He brought y’all to the same place twenty-four hours later.”

“Skye, you don’t understand. I need to go. I’ll see if they’ll let me sneak out the back. I’ll call Nyeem to—”

“Hold on, sis. Did I miss something? Is he being disrespectful?”

I shook my head. “No. He’s been nothing but a gentleman, although we haven’t talked about much.”

“I’m confused. What’s the problem?”

“The problem is, I dreamed about his fine ass all damn night. I can’t get the thought of sitting on his face out of my mind. His voice makes me weak, my nipples have been hard since he introduced himself, and my panties are fucking soaked. I gotta get away from his ass.”

Skye began laughing as if I’d told the world’s funniest joke, and I was annoyed by her reaction.

“Sis, you ain’t had sex in five years. Why don’t you let him scratch that itch and move on with your life?” she asked when she finally gathered herself.

“Because,” I whined, dragging the word out.

“Because what? Nobody will know except you, me, and him, and we ain’t gon’ judge you one damn bit.”

“I’m too old to be hopping on some random man’s dick.”

“I disagree. We are never too old to hop on a random man’s dick if he looks like Kilo and Knox. Shit, I might be doing exactly that if Knox keeps talking like he’s talking, not that I need another entanglement in my life.”

“I don’t know why I expected you to talk me out of this.”

“I don’t either. I’ve always encouraged you to do the right thing, and what could be more right than letting that fine ass man fuck you senseless after a five-year drought.”

I sighed. “You’re not gonna let me sneak out the back, huh?”

“Of course not. Even if you don’t leave with him, sneaking out the back would be whack. What would you say if you ever ran into him again?”

I looked at my watch. “I suppose you’re right. I think I can last until the event is over without jumping over the table and attacking him.”

“Good. Let’s get back out there before some hos snatch up our possible dick for the night. You know these women are vultures.”

I shook my head at my friend because she was a whole mess, but I loved her like she was my blood sister.

“You go ahead. I need to pee since I’m here,” I told her.

“Shit. Me too.”

After relieving our bladders, we washed our hands and returned to the mixer.

“I told you they were vultures. Do you see what I see?”

I spotted a woman talking to Kilo, and it pissed me off. I had no right to be mad because he wasn’t my man. I didn’t even know his last name, how old he was, if he had children, what he did for a living, or anything else for that matter.

I’d never felt more possessive of someone in my life.

Before I could stop myself, I’d walked up behind Kilo, put my arms around his waist, then slid next to him as he lifted his arm over my shoulders.

I stared at the woman who stood on the other side of the table where I’d been standing before going to the bathroom.

“You ready, baby?” I asked, looking up at Kilo.

He looked down at me and smiled before pressing his lips against mine. It was only a peck, but damn did my knees almost buckle.

“I’m ready. Let’s go. It was nice to meet you . . .”

“My friends call me Scooter,” she said with a smile.

“Scoot your ass on over to another nigga. This one is taken,” I said as we rounded the table and headed for the exit.

“Excuse me if I thought he was single since he’s at a singles mixer,” she said with an attitude before walking away.

I had no idea what the fuck I’d done or where I’d go once I left the building. This was completely unexpected and not a part of my plan.

As soon as we stepped outside, my phone buzzed with a notification. I stepped away from Kilo and retrieved my phone. It was a text message from Skye, and I laughed before reading it because I could only imagine what she’d said.

Bestie:

I know that’s right! You betta go ride that dick, sis!

Let that man slut you out because you deserve every lick and stroke.

“What’s funny?” Kilo asked.

“Oh, umm, nothing. That was Skye telling me she saw us leaving.”

“Yeah. About that . . . What was that about, and where are we going?”

I sighed and lowered my head, but Kilo slipped his index finger under my chin and made me look at him.

“Talk to me, Nyomi.”

“I don’t know what that was about, okay. I left the bathroom and saw her cheesing in your face, and I . . .”

“And you what?”

“I got jealous, okay. I don’t know why, because you’re definitely not my man. You know what? I shouldn’t have done that. You should go back inside and finish enjoying your evening. I’ll call—”

He shut me up by covering my mouth with his, not waiting a second to slip his tongue between my lips. My body sank into his, and I allowed myself to savor our connection. We were in the middle of the sidewalk in front of Pitch Black as people came and went, but it felt like we were alone.

I hated that he pulled away, but we couldn’t stand there kissing forever. With our faces only inches apart, Kilo looked into my eyes and said, “I can be your man, Nyomi, if only for tonight.”

“Kilo, I—”

“Tell me what you want, beautiful.”

I slowly swallowed, not believing what was about to leave my mouth.

“You, Kilo. I want you.”

I felt relieved and nervous after the words spilled from my mouth.

“Are you sure?”

He was giving me the opportunity to renege, but that was the last thing I wanted to do.

“I’m positive. Let’s get a room across the street.”

He took my hand, and we waited until it was safe to cross the street. We didn’t converse as we entered the hotel and booked a room. As we rode the elevator to the third floor, I sent my son a text to let him know I was spending the night with Skye so he wouldn’t worry.

Kilo also removed his phone from his back pocket and moved his thumb across the screen, handing it to me just as the elevator stopped. I looked at the screen and saw his STD results, dated a little less than a month ago. I nodded and gave him his phone as we stepped off the elevator.

“I’m clean, but it’s been a while since I was last tested, and I haven’t had sex since then.”

He nodded and said, “I don’t know why, but I trust you, baby.”

We arrived at our room, and after unlocking the door and allowing me to enter first, he closed and secured the door behind him.

We stood face-to-face for a moment, and I knew it was his way of giving me time to change my mind.

Whatever uncertainty I had about this had disappeared when he kissed me on the sidewalk.

I slipped out of my shoes, kicked them to the right, and stepped toward him, closing the space between us.

My hands went to caress the back of his neck, and he leaned down to kiss me, softly at first, before the animal in him took over.

His mouth devoured mine, causing a fire to start between my thighs.

As our tongues intertwined, we moved further into the room until we fell onto the bed. I opened my legs, causing my dress to move up my thighs and giving Kilo room to settle between them. His pants were thin, and I could feel his erection pressing against my center.

His mouth moved down to my neck, and as he caressed it with his tongue, he pushed the straps of my dress from my shoulders, exposing my breasts. When his tongue brushed over my nipple, I moaned.

“Mmm.”

He pushed my breasts together and alternated flicking his tongue over each of them. It had been so long since I’d been touched by a man like this that I was coming undone. Between his tongue tickling my nipples and the friction between our loins, I was on the verge of cumming.

“I wanna taste you,” he mumbled before standing and pulling my dress down my body and tossing it behind him.

I lay on the bed in only my panties, looking up at him, waiting for his next move.

“Damn, baby. You’re so fucking beautiful.”

He reached for the sides of my panties and began pulling them over my hips. I lifted my ass to make it easier for him, and he bit his bottom lip.

“You’re too pretty not to taste good, baby. Can I eat your pussy?”

I slowly nodded.

“You don’t seem sure, Nyomi. I need you to be sure about everything that happens between us. Talk to me.”

“I’m positive. It’s just . . . It’s been a while, and I thought we’d come here, fuck, and go our separate ways.”

“How long is a while?”

“Umm . . . five years.”
