Chapter 13 #2

“I think it’s just because we’re new. There don’t seem to be many Alphas around here.”

“No. It’s like they’re staring at me more than you.” He narrows his eyes as he glances around the room.

I lift my cup of coffee up to hide my smile. “It’s because you're a good looking man. People stare at you all the time.” And not at all because of what I wrote on your forehead last night. I can’t believe he hasn’t seen it yet. My foolish man.

“You’re right.” He gives me a playful grin. He gives someone at the table next to us a wink.

“Would you stop flirting with people, please?” I grumble. “We have an Omega. We don’t need anyone else.”

“Not flirting, I’m just showing my appreciation.”

“Just eat your damn food.” I roll my eyes.

We finish eating and then head back toward the bakery. More people are out now, mulling around town. And more people are staring at us like we don’t belong.

I guess, in a way, we don’t.

“This town gives me cult vibes,” Sloane mutters, pulling a cigarette out and lighting it up. “You think they’re going to trap us here and use us for a blood sacrifice?”

“If anyone is getting sacrificed, it won’t be you. Your blood is poisoned with all the damn nicotine in your system. Would you give me that?” I snatch the cigarette from his lips and throw it on the ground.

“Okay, you need to stop doing that,” he growls.

“Do you want to reek of smoke when we see Lexi?”

“Fine,” he huffs. “But you owe me. Tonight. You, me. We’re breaking that bed in.” He glares at me.

“If you need me to give you a good pounding, that's all you needed to say.” I grin.

He groans. “Yes. Please. That.”

Chuckling, I give him a shove. He laughs and shoves me back.

When we get to the bakery, I’m relieved to find it’s now open.

“Hey,” the girl from yesterday greets. “Your order isn’t quite ready yet. Would you like to come back later?”

“We’ll just wait over here,” Sloane says, taking a table that’s further away from the door.

“Could we get two coffees please?” I ask, not wanting to take up room without ordering anything.

“Of course.” She nods.

“Why here?” I ask, joining him at the table, hidden away.

“Because it’s a perfect view of the door.” He nods his head. “And we’re hidden slightly by the fake plant.”

The woman brings us our coffees, and I thank her.

“So, we just sit and wait?”

“Well, you said you wanted to see her, and she’s not here yet, so yes. Also, it’s not really stalking when we’re also waiting for an order.”

Nodding, I stare at the door, the anticipation killing me.

Come on, little Omega. Please don’t let us have scared you off.

Sloane

“If you stare at the door any longer, you’re going to make it burst into flames.”

Aiden looks away to glare at me. “Fuck off.”

“It’s been two hours, Aiden. We got our donuts nearly an hour ago. I think we have to go, or Emma over there is going to call the cops.”

“She said she was coming back,” he growls. “I heard her before she left.”

“We probably scared her off.”

Just as I say that, the bell to the door chimes, grabbing my attention.

“Well, shit,” I chuckle. “Guess I was wrong.”

My heart jumps with excitement when I see the feisty little Omega walk through the door. I sit up straight, forcing myself to stay in my seat as I start to vibrate like an excited puppy. My Omega. My fucking scent match.

God, she’s so damn beautiful.

She looks around, like she’s on edge, before approaching the counter. She starts to talk to Emma, and I know if we don’t say something now, and she leaves, we might not see her again.

“What are you doing?” Aiden hisses.

I just grin and get up. I walk over and stand behind her when Emma goes into the back.

“Fancy meeting you here.” My voice has a low, anticipatory tone to it. She lets out a sharp gasp, her body tensing before she angles herself towards me, something hard pressing against my dick.

I can’t help but groan. “Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?” I chuckle, low and deep.

“What?” she looks up at me, genuinely taken off guard. “Are you high or something?”

“Not today, no.”

“I have a gun pressed against your dick. You might wanna back the fuck up and stop harassing me.”

“I know,” I grunt. “It’s so fucking sexy. You’re fucking sexy.” I know I should shut up, but that’s not me.

She frowns. “I look like I just rolled out of bed. Because I did.”

“Doesn’t make you any less beautiful.” I grin down at her. Her bright blue eyes shine back with conflicting emotions.

My nose twitches and my back stiffens. Her scent. It’s off, but not in a bad way.

Leaning forward, I inhale deeply.

“Get off me, you creep,” she growls, pulling up the gun and pressing it against my chest.

“You’re pregnant,” I growl.

Her eyes widen in fear, lips parting. “How did you know?”

“I can smell you, little Omega.” I cock my head to the side. “So who’s the fucker who knocked up our Omega?”

“I’m not your Omega,” she argues back. “I don’t even know you.”

“That might be true, but we are your scent matches.”

“I didn’t ask for that.” She looks three seconds away from crying, and I feel like an asshole.

“Let’s start over.” Aiden steps in. “Hi, I’m Aiden, and this is my partner, Sloane.”

“We’re lovers,” I point out.

Aiden shoots me a glare before his face softens and he looks back at Lexi. “We got off on the wrong foot yesterday, and for that I’m so incredibly sorry.”

“Wrong foot?” She’s so adorable when she has a look of murder in her eyes. The gun is still pressed to my chest, and my cock is rock solid. “You followed me and cornered me in an alley.”

I bite my lip at her cute little hiss of anger.

She does a double-take. “Would you stop looking at me like you’re about to cream your damn pants?”

“Maybe I am.” My lips curve into a slow grin.

She glares at me, but I see the pink staining her cheeks.

“Ignore him. Could we talk for a moment? Start over. Because the fact is, we are scent matches, and that's not something we can just ignore.”

“We can try,” she replies dryly.

“Maybe you can, but I know we can’t,” Aiden says.

“Yeah, you’re already carved into my heart and soul, Princess.” I shrug.

“You don’t even know my name.”

“It’s Lexi.” I cock my head to the side.

“And how the fuck do you know that?” she growls like an angry kitten.

“I heard Emma say your name yesterday,” Aiden says. It’s not exactly a lie. But I don’t think right now is the best time to tell her we’ve been looking for her for years, Aiden even longer.

“So about that chat?” I ask.

She looks between the both of us and lets out a sigh. “I can’t talk to you until I talk to Emmett.”

“Who’s Emmett?” I growl. “He your baby daddy?”

“Could you please stop talking?” she hisses. “No one knows I’m pregnant. And I’d like the father of my baby to know first.”

I’m not exactly sure how I feel about my Omega being pregnant with another man’s baby. Sure, we would love him or her either way, but if this other man is going to cause issues, we’re not going to put up with it.

“One night stand?”

“Really?” She glares at me. “Do I look like the kind of girl who sleeps around?”

I look her up and down. “No,” I admit. “But you look like a girl who would sleep with me.”

She snorts out a laugh. “In your fucking dreams, asshole.”

“Damn right, baby.” I wink.

“Dear god, Sloane. Would you shut the fuck up, please?” Aiden snaps.

“Listen to your boyfriend. He’s smart.”

“Ouch.” I clutch at my chest.

“We can talk here, in public, close by someone you know, if it makes you feel any better.”

“Again, who’s Emmett?” I press.

“Emmett is my Omega,” she answers.

“But you’re an Omega,” I point out.

“Gold star for you.” She rolls her eyes. “I can be with whatever designation I want to be with.”

“Is he cute?” I grin.

“You’re weird.” She blinks.

“Thanks.” I grin.

She sighs again. “I really don’t want to have this conversation without Emmett.”

“Doesn’t have to be anything serious. Just a few moments of your time.”

“Fine,” she mutters. “Over here.”

We follow her to the table by the windows and sit.

“So?”

“So.” Aiden looks at me, then her. “We’re scent matches.”

“Yup.”

“And how do you feel about that?”

“Honestly... I’m freaking the fuck out,” she says with a laugh. “The last thing I wanted were Alphas. I have a nice life here, and I’m already dealing with a big life change. I didn’t want two more.”

“We’re not trying to turn your life upside down. We just want a chance to get to know you. Maybe a chance to be with you.”

“We’re strangers,” she stresses.

“Most people are when they first find their scent matches. It takes you by surprise when you least expect it,” I say.

“Tell me about it,” she mutters.

“You can’t say you don’t feel a pull toward us.” I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest with a smug look on my face. “I can smell you from here.”

“It’s a biological reaction,” she defends. “Also, what is going on with that?” she asks, waving her hand towards my face.

My brows furrow. “What do you mean?”

“That.” She points to my forehead. “I mean, good on you, and all. But do you need to tell the world by spelling it out on your face?”

Confused, I grab my phone and open my camera app. “What the fuck?” I growl. “Aiden!” I snap.

The fucking bastard’s chest vibrates with silent laughter.

I look back at my phone and groan when I see the word ‘Cocksucker’.

“And I thought everyone was looking at me because I’m drop-dead gorgeous,” I groan.

Lexi snorts. “Full of yourself, much?”

“Listen, even with this on me, I’m still sexy. We both know it.”

Her cheeks grow red, but she doesn’t deny it.

“Back to what we were talking about. Yes, we’re strangers, but we’d like to fix that.”

“I don’t like Alphas,” she responds.

Damn, rough crowd.

“Shame, because we love Omegas.” I grin.

“Don’t need to know how much of a man-slut you are, thanks,” she growls.

“Not a man slut. We’ve only been with each other since we got together, and that's been for nearly ten years. What he means is, we like the idea of having our own Omega.”
