Chapter 21 #2
“What if they realized they don’t want this? They came here to find me, and now they’re stuck with two Omegas and a baby.”
“Stuck with?” Emmett gives me an amused lift of his brow. “Baby, I don’t think they're stuck with us. Trust me, they want all of it.”
“How do you know?”
“Have you seen how they are around us? Peaches, they are head over heels for us, and this baby.”
“Is it bad that I’m already head over heels for them, too?" I whisper.
“Only if it’s bad that I feel the same way.” He winks.
My stomach is in knots. Five minutes go by, and they’re still not here.
“Lexi,” the nurse calls my name, five minutes past the appointment time.
I jump to my feet, heart pounding. I look around, panicked. They’re still not here.
“Is everything okay?” she asks.
“Do you want to see if we can wait a little bit longer?” Emmett asks, cupping my face in his hands.
“Yes.” I nod. He nods back, kissing the tip of my nose.
“Could we have a few minutes? We’re waiting on someone.”
“I can give you a few more, but we’re already running behind today.”
“Thank you.”
“Why am I going to cry?” I whisper up at Emmett.
“Because you’re an Omega obsessed with her Alphas. You’re pregnant and hormonal. You’re amazing to open your heart to these two new people when normally you’re so closed off.”
“I don’t get it,” I sigh.
“I do. You saw something in me and welcomed me into your life, no questions asked.”
“Because I could tell you were a good person right from the start and wanted you in my life.”
“And what can you tell about them?” he asks softly.
“That they’re good Alphas. They care about us, and they want to be with us,” I whisper.
“Big changes don’t always have to be bad.”
He pulls me into his arms, and I sigh, not able to stop the feeling of sadness that they’re not going to be here. I should have outright asked them. I just didn’t know how I’d feel about it until I was put on the spot.
“Lexi, are you ready?” the nurse asks.
My stomach drops, but I take a deep breath and nod. “Yeah.”
As we’re following her toward the back, the doors to the lobby burst open. My head snaps over to see a very frantic Sloane standing in the doorway.
“We’re here!” he shouts, looking around. When he sees me, his shoulders relax.
I stand there looking stunned, lips parted in shock. “What is he holding?” Emmett asks, voice thick with amusement.
“Oh, thank fuck.” Sloane is panting heavily as he rushes over to us. “I thought we were late.”
“You almost were,” Emmett says. “Where were you? Where’s Aiden?”
“I’m here. Sorry, I had to park the truck. This crazy bastard jumped out of the damn moving vehicle,” he snarls.
“I didn’t want to miss it,” Sloane sneers back.
The shock wears off, and I can’t help but laugh, a big smile on my face. “Is that a teddy bear?” I ask, looking at the big stuffy in his arms.
“What?” He looks down. “No, it’s a rabbit.” He raises a brow. “Kitten, do you not know your animals?"
That has me laughing harder, a burst of happiness filling me. They’re here. They came, and they brought gifts?
“Is that for me?” I ask, so damn happy I could cry.
“No. It's for the baby,” Sloane says. “Your gift is in the truck.” He looks to the nurse. “Do you think you could give me a recording of the heartbeat? I want to put it in the bunny.”
“Uh, yeah,” she says, looking a little flustered. “Sure.” She leans in and whispers to me, “Do you want me to call the cops?”
“No,” I chuckle. “No, it’s fine. They’re with me.”
“You sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“Well, then, if you all could follow me back to the room.”
Emmett and Aiden follow the nurse, but Sloane pulls me to the side.
“Hey,” he says, putting the bunny down, then pulling me into his arms. “I’m sorry we’re late.
And I’m sorry about how I acted before. I don’t want to pressure you or to force you into anything.
I got a little excited because, well, I’m sorry, but I’m over the fucking moon about this baby.
I love kids, always wanted them, and now we get to be dads.
I know it’s a lot and it’s happening so fast but–”
I grab the back of his head and yank him down to me, pressing my lips to his to silence him. He growls low in his chest, cupping the back of my head.
My lips part, letting his tongue in, whimpering as he strokes it against mine.
I become jelly in his arms. This feels so damn perfect.
“Let’s go see our baby.” I smile, pulling back breathlessly.
He gives me a blinding smile, grabs the bunny and my hand, then pulls me down the hallway.
The guys wait while I lie on the table, the air around us filled with nervous excitement.
When the doctor comes in, she greets everyone, giving Aiden and Sloane a once-over before looking at me with a questioning look.
“It’s new.”
She nods slowly. “We’ll talk after.” I knew that was coming.
“Alright then, let’s see this little one.”
She lifts my shirt up and puts some cool gel on my abdomen. She spends around five minutes silently moving the wand around. When I ask what she’s doing, she tells me she’s taking measurements.
Finally, after what feels like forever, she smiles over at me. “Looks like you’re measuring around ten weeks. Everything looks perfect. Baby is doing amazing. Now, let’s meet your little one, shall we?”
“Yes, please.” I nod eagerly, stomach flipping, heart racing.
The guys move around me. Emmett takes one hand, Aiden the other, while Sloane is up by my head. I tilt my head back, and he grins down at me, winking.
Looking at the screen that’s mounted to the wall, I gasp when I see a tiny little thing on the screen. It has a face, body, legs, arms, and hands. We can’t really make out the face, but it looks like a tiny human already.
“Oh my god,” I whisper, tears filling my eyes. When she turns on the sound, and a little heartbeat begins whooshing around me, I sob.
“Holy fuck. It’s a baby,” Sloane whispers. “Like a real baby.”
“Yes,” the doctor chuckles. “There’s a real baby in there.”
“Peaches,” Emmett’s voice cracks. I look up at him, and he’s smiling too, eyes misty like mine. “We did that. We made a little life that’s growing inside you.”
“We did.” I laugh, so damn happy.
“I’m so proud of you,” Aiden says. I smile over at him. “Proud to be your Alpha. To watch this little one grow. To spoil him or her and love them with all my heart.”
“Really?” I whisper, my voice cracking.
“I’m in love with them already.” His big brown eyes grow glassy with tears, but he doesn’t let them fall. Fuck.
How am I not going to fall hard and fast for these men? They’re everything I could have dreamed of, but never thought existed.
“I want photos,” Sloane requests. “Can I get them in wallet size?”
We all laugh, but he insists he’s being serious.
The whole time, I’m filled with pure euphoria. For the first time since finding out I’m pregnant, I’m not afraid. I’m not worried or freaking out. I feel content, happy. Excited.
Most of all, I feel love. I have so much love for this little one inside me, I can’t even explain it.
I might’ve never wanted kids before this, but I’m sure as hell glad I ended up with this little one.
When we’re done, I stay behind to talk to the doctor while the guys gush over the photos that were printed.
“How are you? Last time I saw you, you were freaking out. Now, you’re here with two new men. Alphas. You don’t like Alphas.” Her lips twitch.
“I’m okay. It was rough for the first few days, but everything is getting better. Emmett is excited, and now, so am I. And well, as you can see, we gained two new pack members. Not expecting that at all, but we’re not mad about it. They’re good men.”
“I’m glad.” She smiles softly. “You deserve this, Lexi. Let yourself enjoy it.”
“I know.” I don’t, but I want to believe it.
“We’ll see you soon. Make sure to get your prenatal vitamins, okay?”
“I will. Thank you.”
“Are we good to come over?” Aiden asks as we walk out to the parking lot. “If you want some space, we can meet up another time.”
“We want you over.” I smile
“You sure?” Aiden looks between the two of us.
“You’re starting to make me feel like you don’t wanna come,” Emmett chuckles.
“We do,” Sloane says.
“I say movie night, pizza, and cuddles?” I ask, chewing on my lower lip.
“Sounds like a perfect night to me,” Emmett says. “Maybe a little Mario Kart?”
“Fuck yes,” Sloane says. “You’re all gonna eat my dust,” he cheers. “Respectfully, of course.” He grins.
Emmett and I head home in his truck while the guys follow in theirs.
“Can I get some help bringing all this in?” Sloane asks when we get to my place.
“What did you buy?” I ask, trying to get a peek.
“Everything,” Aiden mutters. “That's why we were late. This crazy fucker bought every gender netural thing in the store.”
“What?” My eyes widen just as Sloane pulls bag after bag out of the back seat.
“It’s not nearly enough. I say we go into town to get more. We need a lot! Stroller. Crib. Bassinet.”
“I’m ten weeks,” I laugh. “We have lots of time,” I argue, but deep down I’m swooning. I can’t believe Sloane did this.
“It’s not nearly enough.” Sloane carries some bags inside. “I was going to get you this big pink fluffy blanket, but the lady wouldn’t let me buy it,” he mutters.
“Sloane, it wasn’t for sale. You tried to take it from the woman's cart, after she had already paid for it!” Aiden scolds him, but I can see he’s trying to hold back his amusement.
“It was the last one,” Sloane growls. “It should have gone to my girl. I tried pulling the whole ‘my Omega owns this town’ card, but she looked like she was going to call the cops. Aiden pulled me out of there before I could grab the blanket.”
“Oh my god.” Emmett bursts into laughter. “You did not.”
“Unfortunately, he did,” Aiden sighs.
“As soon as you tell the world about us, they’re going to be sorry.” Sloane frowns. “Then who's gonna look like the idiot?"
“You’re acting like I’m the Queen or something. Stop!” I reply, still laughing.
“You’re my queen. Doesn’t that count?” Sloane asks.
“Okay, that was smooth.” I grin.
He swaggers over to me. “Wanna see just how smooth I can be?” He wiggles his eyebrows at me. “I can smooth my tongue over that pretty pink–”
Aiden slaps his hand over Sloane's mouth. “Let’s go inside and order pizza, huh?”
“Sounds perfect,” I giggle.
“Wait, I want to know what he would do with this tongue,” Emmett protests. Cheeky little fucker, he is.
“It’s similar to what I did to your cock yesterday.”
Emmett’s smile falls, his cheeks blazing. “Asshole.”
“Yes, it was quite a tasty one, too.” Sloane counters.
“I’m going inside to die now. Bye.” Emmett jogs inside, leaving Sloane and me outside.
“I think I like you.” I smile up at Sloane.
“Good. Because I know I’m over the moon for you. If it ever becomes too much, though, let me know,” he’s states seriously.
I step up to him, letting him pull me into his arms. Getting to my tiptoes, I wrap my arms around his neck. He grabs my thighs and lifts me, my legs wrapping around his waist.
“I like you just how you are, Sloane. Don’t change for anyone, okay? Even me.”
His eyes blaze back with emotions I can’t quite name, but can feel in my bones. “I’m keeping you, Lexi,” he growls low and soft.
“Good.” I play with the hair at the base of his neck. “Because I don’t think I can let you go.”
