Chapter 19 Lexi
LEXI
Bass could be heard from almost a block away, and her stride hurried a little as a zip of anticipation rushed through her. She’d been looking forward to coming here all day; a break from the reality that was slowly wearing her down.
Her jeans with strategically placed rips were new, a result of her shopping trip with Tasia.
She smiled as she recalled Tasia’s response to her having Grayson’s card.
They’d bought several things, Tasia encouraging her every step of the way.
She’d been worried it was too much, but Grayson hadn’t said a word about the expense he must have seen by now.
Her mind flitted briefly to the strapless red dress she’d splurged on.
Fingering her sweatshirt, she wondered when she might be able to wear it for him. A quick thrill went through her. She’d never expressly bought something to wear for a man. It made her think of Shayla, the freeing feeling she’d mentioned. Was this it?
The buzz from behind the oversized metal door was still just as irritating as the first time she’d pressed it, and thinking Kris would be at the back, rang it again just to be annoying. It made her smile when the door opened, and there he loomed - her favorite bouncer.
“Lex,” he said. It made her smile again.
“Kris,” she said levelly, meaning she was good - enough. He tilted his head at her.
“What?” He glanced towards the stairs across from them, and back to her. He was asking about her and Grayson.
“It’s none of your business.” The sonofabitch smirked at her, and she felt herself blushing. Unable to beat back the blush, she rolled her eyes, aiming for indifference.
“Where’s the bossman?” Kris full out smiled, and she remembered why she’d gone out with him. His face had turned from casually handsome and stoic to something somebody probably wrote about in the Bible. She loved that smile, and she smiled back. And heard steps coming down the stairs.
