Chapter 64
in just a few hours

Up here, from the Gardenias viewpoint, I can see how the sea looks today.
The pinkish patches caused by the sunlight glide across its turquoise waters like a silk cloak, and it looks so beautiful it resembles a meadow full of flowers.
I knew a sunset wedding would be magical, but now that I’m seeing it with my own eyes, I’m thrilled that I got it just right.
“Hey, don’t you think you should be getting ready?” Ana, already dressed in her gorgeous sky-blue strapless gown, leans on the railing and mimics my posture. “People are going to be here any minute, and you’re still half-done.”
“I needed a break. I’ve had a crazy day…” I admit, looking her in the eyes. “Where did you leave Inaki?”
“Oh, right.” She rolls her eyes. “You know, he’s with Pablo and your brother—they’re like two peas in a pod. They’re inseparable, come rain or shine.”
“And I don’t think they ever will be separated.” I laugh. “It seems like nothing has changed, that the group is exactly the same. Although then you blink for a moment, and when you open your eyes, you can see that we’re not even the people we were when we were… how old? Ten?”
“Maybe a little older,” she replies, resting her head on my shoulder. “It’s incredible that Jorge and Carolina are getting married.”
“And that you’re with Inaki.”
“And you’re with Victoria,” she says, and I turn to look her in the eyes. “There’s something I’ve wanted to tell you these past few days, but I couldn’t find the right moment.”
“What?”
“Well…” she murmurs, bringing a hand to her ear to tuck a small strand of hair behind it. “I know I’ve been really cruel to her, and well…” She hesitates and looks down. “All these years, I’ve done nothing but judge her, and I’ve realized I was a little blind.”
“Well, these things happen…”
“But they can be fixed,” she adds, and I nod in agreement. “So, well, I hope she gets here on time and that you two can enjoy tonight and many more together.”
“I love you so much!” I exclaim, wrapping my arms around her and pulling her close to my chest. “If she doesn’t show up, I’ll let you yell at her,” I say, and we both burst out laughing. “But seriously, I hope she comes because if she doesn’t…”
“This day won’t be so special.”
“It will be,” I admit, grabbing her arm to pull her along as we start walking back to the hotel. “I’m sure of it.”
“And so am I.”
