Chapter 6

CHAPTER 6

L ion

My head is throbbing. She provided the answer to everything. Her husband killed my father! She has a husband. Her uncle is my Uncle Lenn, my father’s best friend. My head feels like it is going to split with all the revelations she just dropped in a twenty-minute story.

“I, uh, I need to step outside,” I mumble.

“Oh, okay,” she says, but I am already in motion. I stumbled outside, pulling out my cell phone to call my brother.

“You ready to stop shacking with the thief?”

“Dad is dead,” I say without preamble.

“What?” All humor leaves.

“She is the key to all the questions we had. Her uncle is Uncle Lenn. Her husband killed our dad,”

“Tell me everything,” he says, and I retell the story that was told to me.

“So that’s why she’s looking for Judah,”

“Yep.”

“Are you going to tell her you’re Judah?”

“Not yet.”

“Why not?”

“Just not yet,” I say, looking at my phone and reading the text that just came through. “I got church.”

“Okay, and Ronnie?”

“Oh, she’s not leaving my sight. I have to go by the house to take care of Jazz and Blues.”

“I have been taking care of them. You know that.”

“I didn’t doubt it, brother, but I want to see them for myself.”

“Well, after you go to church, let’s wrap this shit up. Dad’s death has gone unpunished long enough.”

“I agree, brother. I’ll see you soon,” I hung up, sending a reply text to Loki before looking up at the sky, taking a deep breath before heading back inside.

“Everything okay?” she asks.

“Yeah, pack a bag. We'll be gone for a few days,” I tell her. She looks at me for a few long seconds before getting up to do what I told her to do.

Ronnie

Now I may be slow, but I’m not stupid. Lion is in some way tied to what is going on, but I don’t quite know how. There is one theory bouncing around in my head, but I keep thinking it would be a little crazy. However, there are just a few too many similarities, but until I can prove it, I’ll keep my mouth closed. As far as going with him, well, he’s probably the safest place to be and it would appear he’s the only way I can get to Judah. I throw my clothes in a backpack along with some toiletries and go downstairs to leave with Lion. By the time I reach the garage he has secured the bike on the back of the truck and is waiting for me. I hop in the cab, open the garage on the app on my phone, buckle my seat belt, set the house alarm, and wait to see where this crazy journey leads me.

To his house, that’s where! First of all, it’s not where I thought it would be, and secondly, it was way more normal, big, and unassuming than I anticipated.

“Lion, this is nice,” I tell him.

“You sound so surprised,”

“I am. I half expected little more than a hovel,” I tell him honestly.

“Wow,” he says, and I simply shrug in response.

“Then again, the cost of that bike and truck should have told me all I needed to know,”

“Let me show you to your room.”

“Oh, I actually get my own room?” I ask, surprised because he wouldn’t let me out of his sight at my house.

“I know my security, and I am confident you won’t run.”

“Oh, gotcha, so you were all cuddled up with me in my bed because you were afraid of my running? Riiiiggghhhhttttt!” I tell him, slowly walking around and looking at his house.

Before I can blink, he is behind me with my front pushed up against the living room wall, his lips scraping my neck as he talks. “If you want to be in my bed, Ronnie, all you have to do is ask,” he sucks the skin on my neck near my collarbone, and his hands are not idle either. One is in my braids, pulling my head back and the other is slipping past the bands of my jeans, playing with the elastic on my panties. I have to take a deep breath to pull myself together before I beg this man to fuck me right here against this wall. Even when I was supposed to be afraid of this man, when he was literally threatening my life, I was more attracted to him than I ever was to my husband. I do not understand why this man can elicit these types of feelings in my body but I kind of want to explore it. Oh god! What is wrong with me?

“Say the word, Ronnie. With your mouth cause the desire I smell coming from your pussy is answering pretty loudly, but I want to hear your mouth say you want to feel my dick stretching your pussy.”

“Oh god, Lion,” I moan out, and I am hanging on by a thread.

“Is that, yes, Lion, I want you to fuck me? Or yes, Lion, I want to cum on your dick? Or is it yes, Lion, but I want to cum on your face? Cause let me tell you, I would love to make a meal out of your pussy and drink your cum like it’s café noir.”

The soft thud of my head hitting the wall in defeat echoes around the room. He pulls his hands from my panties and backs up enough to turn me around. No sooner than my back settles against the wall, he captures my lips in a kiss that has me on the verge of cumming. He leans down to pick me up when we hear noise coming from the front door. I would have expected him to jump away from me, but he took his time resting his forehead against mine.

“Hey, Lion,” the voice calls, but Lion doesn’t move a muscle.

“We will finish this later. I want you in my bed, naked and wet later, and I am going to take care of you and this pussy,” he says, kissing me on the tip of my nose. “All night.”

“Oh shit! My bad,” the Lion lookalike says as he rounds the corner on us.

“Living room,” Lion barks, making me jump, but the kiss he gives me settles my nerves while simultaneously revving up my desire again. But the lookalike didn’t care at all if the trailing laughter is anything to go by.

“I hate him,” he says, walking out and leaving me standing there with noodles for legs.

Lion

“What the fuck was that?” Bones asks with a shit-eating grin on his face.

“Fuck off. What do you want?”

“I started digging into the casino Dad invested in, and it’s a shit show. Since he killed Dad without getting him to sign over his portion of the business, he needed to come up with the money that he was stealing, so he got some pretty high-interest loans. And by high-interest loans, I mean it could cost you your life if you don’t pay type of high- interest,”

“Mafia?”

“Mafia.”

“So from what I heard, even though the casino is making money and he knows he owes money, he is still gambling, trying to come up with the funds. So when the Finch family came for him, he held them off by letting them know his wife was literally a multimillionaire, and he just needed help finding her. He basically told them that once she is dead, he will inherit all of her money, and he’ll be able to pay them back plus interest. So a couple of things happened: one, a bounty was placed on her head, and two, her husband was never left alone. Apparently, that was because one of his Capo’s was here and was taken to her brothel and talked about how smooth, professional, and good it was, and Giovanni came to experience it and to try to gain a piece of the business.”

“Fuck,” I say.

“Right.”

“But when her husband saw her, all bets were off, and the attention shifted,”

“That won’t last.”

“Exactly,”

“I’ll have to ask if we can send some protection over there for Ms. Adelaide. According to Ronnie, she’s an old woman, and I don't want her killed because they are scaring her.”

“I mean, if they think she is the owner and she signs the paperwork, they’ll think they own it, and they really won’t,”

“True, but eventually, when they go to make some changes or start to dig deeper, they’ll find out she duped them, and they will for sure kill her.”

“Good point. This is getting out of hand,”

“It is. Grab a few prospects and head over there to leave with Ms. Adelaide. I’ll clear it with Loki. And tell them to try not start an all-out war before I can talk to Loki about all of this. Also, see if you can set a meeting for me and Giovanni. I want to make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

“Got it, and by the way, that was corny as hell, and while I am gone, try not to become a dad while we figure this out.”

“Please fuck all the way off,” I tell him.

“I mean, if you do, I can’t say that I blame you. She is hot as fuck,” he says, grinning. The squint I give him doesn’t change his grin or laugh. Fucking brothers.

“Seriously, can you believe after all of these years, we are finally meeting the niece Uncle Lenn used to talk about,” he says, and I can tell he misses the two men who raised us, as do I.

“I know, but from the time I have spent with her, she is more than Uncle Lenn could have hoped for. Maybe when all this is over, you can spend some time with her before she heads back to D.C.”

“Back to D. C., huh? Hmm, okay,” he says, and my eyebrows furrow at his tone.

“What is that supposed to mean?” I ask, but the text coming through on his phone interrupts the conversation. I forget sometimes that he still works full-time and he is in demand, but he handles juggling his day job and night job pretty well.

“Ronnie!” I yell for her. I showed her her bedroom before I went to talk to Bones.

“What, Lion?” Her saying my name takes me back to us against the wall. When she called me Lion, I wanted to hear her call me Judah instead. I have never let a woman call me by that name, hell, I don’t think any of them knew it was my name. I mean, they didn’t need to know all that to get fucked. “I need to go check on something.”

“Right, and I can’t be trusted alone,”

“Hush, woman,” I tell her, heading to the garage. I decide to take my Harley Tri-Glide seeing as it’s a pretty long drive to where we’re going.

“Oouuu, this is nice!” she says, practically drooling over the bike. I hand her the helmet for her to wear, “Do you think you can fit this over your big ass head?”

“You know what, Lion! Go to hell!” Her hand shoots out, snatching the helmet from me with a sharp glare that could burn holes through steel. Her irritation is clear, but I can’t help the chuckle that escapes at her fiery expression. Ignoring the scowl she throws my way, I press the button to open the garage door, lifting slowly as I swing a leg over the bike. With a quick motion, I help her on, securing the helmet over my head before starting the engine. The deep rumble of the bike fills the air, and without another word, we speed off into the night.
