Chapter 14

FOURTEEN

Diamond.

I was a ball of nerves when I pulled up to Makhai’s place in the iDrive. He’d convinced me to come see him in Crescent Falls since he’d always come to my place before. Kabria agreed to look after Keona for the night since I probably wouldn’t be going back home until the next day.

Makhai asked that I dress up because he had another date planned for us, and the weather was nice out, so I went with a black, satin dress.

It was backless with a cowl neck, so it hung loosely in the front, but was still fitted in other areas.

I paired it with black, strappy heels, a black clutch from Chanel and gold accessories.

I was going to wear the jewelry he got me but decided against it since I had stuff that was equally as nice. Plus, he let me know that I’d be taking a car service to his place ahead of time, and I didn’t want to potentially get robbed.

I texted Makhai to let him know I arrived and the driver was good with letting me wait in the car so that I didn’t have to wait alone.

I texted to let Kabria know that I’d made it then looked up to see Makhai exiting his building.

I quickly thanked the driver then climbed out of the car meeting Makhai’s waiting arms.

“Hey,” I cooed as he hugged me against his firm frame. I closed my eyes briefly, taking in his scent and enjoying the feeling.

He was dressed so nicely in a black fitted shirt and black Gucci loafers. I’d seen him dressed for a few different occasions and was struggling to pick a favorite look because he looked amazing in all of them.

“My bad I couldn’t scoop you. I needed to get shit finished here.”

“It’s fine.” I smiled, handing him my suitcase since he was reaching for it. We hadn’t agreed that I was staying or anything, but I still packed just in case. Besides, I wanted to change either way after having dinner. “Where are we going tonight?”

“We chillin’ here,” he answered with a smile. “Hope that’s cool.”

“It is but let me find out you’re trying to hide me.” I cut my eyes up at him when we entered the elevator. He leaned forward and pressed the number ten then leaned back into the wall.

“Too fine for me to hide, love,” he smirked. “I just wanted the fine dining experience without the crowd and shit.”

“I get it. I bet that can be overwhelming.”

“As fuck.” He chuckled. “But we still gon’ have good food and drinks and shit, just without all the other shit.”

“You cooked?” I asked as the elevator opened.

“Naw, I’m aight in the kitchen, but not good enough to be cookin’ for our dates and shit. My cousin hooked us up.”

“Oh, are they a chef?”

He nodded as he opened his door. “She like a sous chef to Day down at Diablo’s.”

I’d looked some restaurants up on my way to Crescent Falls and Diablo’s Steakhouse was one of them. He hadn’t told me exactly what or where we were eating, so that was where I planned to ask him to go. It was a good surprise to know that we’d basically be having that, just at his home.

“Wow, Makhai, it is beautiful in here.” I damn near whispered once the door was opened.

His place basically had an open concept when you first walked in.

The kitchen was to the right with a large, six seat table in the dining area to the left.

Straight ahead was the living room, but what really grabbed my attention was the massive window that spanned the length of the room, overlooking the city. It was beautiful at night.

To no surprise, he had a black and gray theme going on. I didn’t know why, but I expected everything to just be black in his house. Even the kitchen décor was black. It went well with the stainless-steel appliances that he had in there.

The space was dim, only being lit by candles and the light over his stove.

There was even a candlelit pathway that led to the table, so I followed it.

When we reached the table, I noticed a small square box lying next to a bouquet of red roses.

I noticed that giving me flowers was his thing because he’d been sending them to me weekly since the first time.

“Is this mine?”

“Naw, it’s the hoe that just lefts. I think she forgot it.”

“Nigga, don’t play.” I nudged him but smiled as I grabbed the box that had a beautiful diamond tennis bracelet inside. “This is beautiful, Makhai. I love it.”

“You better. Shit cost me a grip.” He smirked, removing the bracelet from the box and clasped it around my wrist. “Look good on you, my baby.”

“Yes, thank you,” I simpered as I examined the peace of jewelry on my wrist.

“Ain’t shit. Come on, sit so we can eat.”

He pulled my chair out so I could take a seat then he took one directly across from me while I kept stealing glances at the view. I hadn’t even seen his whole condo but had settled on it being my favorite part.

Our dinner was already plated and ready, so after saying a quick grace, we dug in. Over dinner, we talked. He let me know he hadn’t been staying at his place that long and he was barely there. I couldn’t wrap my head around it because the view was my favorite thing.

He also told me about his uncle Proof who he was just as close to as he was his parents. Proof was apparently the father of his only cousin whom he let me know was excited to meet me. I was equally as pumped because his mom was the only one I’d met so far.

“Food was straight?” he asked.

“So good,” I gushed. “I’ve made a mental note to thank your cousin when we formally meet.

” He got up and rounded the table extending a hand for me to take.

Without hesitation, I accepted it and allowed him to gently pull me from my seat.

He began to lead me down the hall, so I asked, “Where are we going?”

“You swim?”

“I can,” I answered. “But it’s cool out now and I didn’t bring a swimsuit.”

“That’s cool,” he glanced over his shoulder and smirked before pushing his room door opened. “We gon’ be inside and it’s a heated pool.”

“That solves one problem.”

He pointed to the bed that had a few shopping bags on it.

“Check the bags, love.”

A few of them were from a place called Passion, but there were also some from Fendi. Inside the bags were different outfits, shoes, and purses. I only got to open the first one noticing that it was a swimsuit. I smiled as I turned to face him.

“You just thought of everything, huh?”

“Facts.” He smirked. “You can change in here; I’ll go to my guest room.”

He went to grab something from his drawer then left the room.

When I was alone, I looked inside of the other bags and noticed some slides, sandals, a bag, and bracelet.

I grabbed the swimsuit and cover-up that was in the first bag and took it in the bathroom so I could change quickly.

I also used the travel toothbrush and toothpaste I carried in my bag to brush my teeth while I was there.

When I was done, I applied lotion to my hands, reapplied my lip gloss, then slipped my feet inside the slides that matched my suit before leaving the room to go find Makhai.

He was in the living room on his phone when I entered, so to make my presence know, I said, “I’m ready.”

When he glanced over his shoulder his lids lowered as he took me in shamelessly. My thighs squeezed a bit when I noticed his tongue dart out to moisten his lips.

“I knew you’d look good in the shit, but damn,” he rose and made his way toward me. When he was close, he pulled me into his body. “Damn, we need to take pictures or some shit.”

“How?” I beamed. “You have a ring light?”

“What am I? A bitch?” he laughed. “Hell naw, I don’t got no fuckin’ ring light, but I got this phone, so come on.”

He pushed me away gently, so I posed for a few pictures before holding my hand up to stop him, but he didn’t.

He just took some off guards of me. I took my phone out and snapped a few selfies of us as well as some faceless pictures that I might post later, then we left his place and headed down the hall.

Apparently, the condominiums had an indoor pool on every other floor, and he was able to have the one on his floor closed for his personal use for the night.

When we entered the space was dimly lit just like his place, with just a tad bit more light from the pool.

I immediately noticed the candles that surrounded the pool and was about to ask about it until some of the overhead lights came on and I saw what he’d done.

The pool was covered in red and pink rose petals, with white ones that spelled out “will you be my girlfriend?” in the center.

I spun around quickly to find a smiling Makhai. He encased me in his arms and asked, “You fuck with it?”

“Yes,” I simpered, looking between him and the pool. “I-I need to take a picture of this.”

I got ready to pull my phone from my purse, but he stopped me. “Naw, I need ya answer first.”

“H-How could I say no to this?” I pointed to the pool. “It’s so thoughtful and—”

“Memorable?” he smirked, finishing my sentence.

“Yes.” I chuckled and blushed, still completely in awe that he had done all of this. “We can’t get in there. It’s way too beautiful.”

“We definitely getting in there. Just after yo’ ass answer the question.”

Smiling, I turned to face him, circling my arms around his neck. “How can I say no to this?”

“You can’t.” He wrapped me in his arms, his hands firmly gripping my ass. It was the first time that he’d touched me like that, and I was really enjoying the feeling. “But I still want to hear you say yes.”

“Of course I’ll be your girlfriend.” I grinned before lifting to kiss his lips then I said, “I’d be honored actually.”

“Yeah? Stroke my ego then.” He smiled against my lips.

“I need to get pictures,” I said, releasing him. “If we get in, we’ll mess it up, so let me get them now.”

“Aight, but come here,” he pulled me back to him. “Kiss yo’ nigga again.”
