Lolly
Are these butterflies? My stomach is churning as I dig through my closet, passing over any of my tight pants because I’m not risking that shit around him.
My phone dings.
Jay: Is it picnic day?
Me: Fuck off
I’m about to set the damn phone on the bedside table when it rings.
“Yeah?” I say, sounding more annoyed than I meant to.
“Damn, dude. Nice to talk to you, too,” he deadpans.
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to sound like an asshole. I think I’m nervous?” I say it like it’s a question but I fucking know it’s the truth.
“Aww, that’s cute,” Jay teases. “Where are you taking him?”
“I’m honestly not sure yet. So far, my plan stops after tacos.”
“That’s fair. It’s a good start. Maybe have a few ideas for a second location in mind just in case?”
Is he encouraging this? My brows furrow in confusion.
“Are you team Bailey now?”
“Nah. I’m team Lolly. But in all honesty, it’s not impossible that he’s done some growing up over the past two years.”
“Yeah, here’s hoping,” I wince.
“Lolly?”
“Yeah, man.”
“If he’s capable of unicorns and rainbows, I’ll support you. Just be careful,” he pauses for a beat. “Guard your heart.”
I swallow thickly. “I will,” I reply.
“Later!” Jay says and hangs up before I can respond.
I laugh, fucking unbelievable.
