Lolly
I haven’t stopped smiling since I left his driveway. It feels so damn foolish but inevitable at the same time. I huff a small laugh, unable to wrap my mind around him being back in my life. Two fucking years later and he still ignites something in me that no one else can.
I’m quiet when I let myself inside, using my phone light for visibility as I make my way to the living room.
“Hey, hun,” Corina says quietly from the sofa. “How was your date?”
“It wasn’t a date,” I hiss.
She smiles in the dimly lit room, a knowing gleam in her eyes. “Sure thing,” she says with a wink.
I sigh and roll my eyes, “You’re worse than Mom,” I tease.
Corina laughs at that, “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
I smile, “Thanks for staying tonight. You’re welcome to use your bedroom anytime, you know.”
“I know,” she promises. “I can be here any time you need me. You know, in case you want to go out on any more not dates.”
“Thank you,” I smile, shaking my head. “Be safe getting home.”
“See you tomorrow,” she sings before letting herself out.
I lay down, grateful for the extra large couch I finally purchased. It’s been a hell of a lot easier to sleep on. I don’t miss having to hang my legs over the side one fucking bit.
Mom’s soft snores carry across the room as I let my mind wander back to him. To tonight. I could do that every day, again and again, for as long as he’d let me.
I make sure my phone’s on vibrate before taking my meds and settling in. I’m about to put it on the table when it vibrates. My heart races in anticipation. No way he’d text me this soon. I might have fucked up by telling him to text me tomorrow.
Jinx: How’d it go? Do you think he’s really sober?
I chuckle at that.
Me: It was really good to see him again. And yes, I think he’s sober.
Jinx: OMG this is exciting! Did you kiss him? Please tell me, I have to know immediately
Me: Lol, no. I didn’t kiss him. Just a kiss on the cheek before I left.
Jinx: Shut up that is the cutest thing EVERRRR
Me: Thanks?
Jinx: Let me know as soon as you hear from him again. I’m living vicariously through you so it’s vital that you keep me in the loop.
Me: I will
Jinx: Eek! Night! ??
Me: Night
I close my eyes, grateful for the quiet. My heart is lighter than it’s been in a long damn time and I’ve no doubt he has everything to do with it.
