Chapter 8 – Mason #2
“As beautiful as that would be,” I pause, watching the rise and fall of her chest. “I’m not talking about you crawling and groveling to me.
Although now that I’ve pictured it, I will be adding that to a long list of things to explore later.
” I rub my thumb across my bottom lip, imagining Ever on her knees before me in nothing but a G-string and a smile has my cock swelling behind the zipper of my jeans.
“I meant you need to work out how you plan on apologizing to the club. The last time you were around the clubhouse, you managed to piss off a majority of the people there and since you’re going to be my wife, you’ll be around all those people a lot.
So, you are definitely going to need to start with a sincere, heartfelt apology,” I tease.
“But knowing Sadie, you should have a backup plan. I’m thinking a grand gesture type of thing. ”
“Mason.” She scrubs a hand down her face. Everly is flustered and frustrated, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prettier shade of pink on a woman’s cheeks before. “We are not getting married.”
My phone chimes.
“Yes, we are. You just told that nice old woman we are.” I lean in close and whisper, “You wouldn’t want her to think you’re a liar, would you? And what about Kaylie? We wouldn’t want her thinking her big sister is a hypocrite, would we?”
I check the incoming text.
Parisi: One hour. Judge Harper. $500 cash no questions. Witnesses will be provided.
“No. I’m not. We’re not.” Everly groans. “I’ll tell Mrs. Pennington we called it off. I don’t know. I’ll tell her, things were moving too fast, and I got cold feet.”
Ever’s suggestion pisses me off. “No.”
“What do you mean, no?” she retorts. “Mason, be serious.” She’s got both hands on her hips. Her face is turning red. There’s a fire in her eyes, and I can’t think of a time I’ve ever thought she was more beautiful.
“I am being one hundred percent serious.” I take a step toward her, cradling her face in my hands as I call Kaylie, “Hey, Squirt.”
Kaylie drops her colors on the table with a thud. Her little head popping up. “Uh-huh?”
“Take Winston and your coloring stuff into your room, will ya? I need to talk to your sissy about some very grown-up things. I’ll come get you when we’re all done and we’ll play a game, okay?”
Everly’s eyes fill with heat. Her body shudders beneath my touch.
See, baby. Your body knows. I just need to get that head of yours on board.
“Can we play the matching game?” Kaylie asks.
“Whatever you want, kid.” It takes seconds for Kaylie to clean up her stuff and disappear down the hall. I don’t let go of Ever.
“With candy for a snack?” Kaylie barters. The kid is sharp and a fucking sugar junkie.
“Yep.”
Kaylie gives the one arm “whoop” and takes off.
“Mason,” Everly whimpers.
Before she can get another word out, I devour her. My tongue breaches her lips, swirling inside her mouth, tasting and teasing her. Everly doesn’t move at first, holding onto her stubbornness. When my teeth scrape her bottom lip, she whimpers, and I know I have her.
Her hand grips the back of my head, tugging at the hair there as she fights for dominance. Her tongue battling with mine. I walk her back, pushing her over the side of the couch until she’s flat on her back and I have her pinned beneath me.
“We’re getting married. Today.” I kiss her again, slowly.
“You’re mine, Ever. Get it through your head now, because once we take those vows,” I reach my hand between us, cupping the heat of her pussy through her clothes with my hand.
“This is going to be mine too. Every fucking inch of you will be mine for the taking.” I kiss her again, hard.
“The savoring.” Another harsh kiss. “The tasting.”
Her hips begin to move against my hand seeking relief, but I pull back, breaking the kiss and putting a stop to everything.
“What are you doing?” she asks, panting. Her pupils are dilated. Her lips are pink and swollen. She’s fucking gorgeous like this, but I won’t fuck her until she admits to the truth.
“I’m not taking you until you say, I do,” I tell her firmly. “And you better hurry up. We need to go.”
“Uugghhh. Fucking asshole,” She groans, pushing at my chest, squirming beneath me as she tries to escape. “Get off me.”
“No.”
“Mason, I swear to God if you don’t get off of me, I’m going to scream bloody fucking murder.”
I shrug. “I don’t care if you scream. But you might frighten Kaylie if you do.”
She ponders that for a minute, then grumbles, “Asshole.” I shrug.
Sitting up, but not moving off her, I open my phone back up and call Austin on speaker. Everly is still thrusting her hips trying to throw me off her lap, but I’m too heavy.
“What’s up, Mason?” Austin answers on the second ring.
“I need you and Colt to pack up my things in my room, load them into a truck and deliver them to Everly’s place. Just the essentials. I’ll get the rest later.”
“You finally locked that down, huh?” Austin chuckles. Everly’s jaw drops open, and it’s all I can do not to laugh.
“Yep. We’re getting married.” Everly starts to speak, but I cover her mouth with my hand, muffling the sound.
“No shit?”
“No shit. I just need to get to the courthouse. Hey, but don’t tell anyone.
I’ll tell them afterward.” Everly’s hands are gripping my wrist as she thrashes around underneath me.
I lean down, pulling my phone away from my face, and whisper, “If you don’t stop attacking me and start behaving yourself, I’m going to have to punish you, wife. ”
Her eyes go wide, but she’s not afraid. I can feel her heart pumping against my chest and her breathing has turned to panting. She’s turned the fuck on and now I know her little secret.
Licking a path up her neck to her ear, I tease her, “I promise I’ll do all those dirty things I know you read in your romance books, but first we need to get you down the aisle and give you my last name.”
She shakes her head. I nod mine. I can hear Austin shouting for me through the phone.
“Yeah, sorry. I dropped my phone,” I say by way of excuse.
“Nice try. I heard your little threat and I approve.” Austin laughs. “Colt and I will have your shit packed and delivered before sundown,” he guarantees. “You told Pres yet?”
“Nope. I’m going to call him here in just a second. I wanted to get you two moving on my shit first.”
We hang up, and I dial Gabe’s number.
“Yeah,” he answers gruffly.
“The prospects are clearing out most of my stuff in the clubhouse and moving it into Ever's place for me. We’re getting hitched.”
I hear the scruff of his beard against the phone and can picture him scrubbing his hand over it. “Just tell me this. Was she drunk off her ass when she agreed to marry you?”
I smile, knowing Ever heard him. “Fuck no, Pres. This was all her idea.”
“Well, fuck me. Congratulations then, son. Hurry the fuck up. We’ve got some shit to get handled here. But bring her with you and we will have a proper celebration.”
“Be there in a bit.” We hang up. Everly is thrashing under me again, shaking her head.
“I’m not going to the clubhouse. We are not getting married. Mason, be serious!”
“I am one hundred percent serious.” I reply, pulling her up to stand next to me. My hand finds her ass. “Go get whatever shit you two need for the day. We’ve got some errands to run and then we need to go by the clubhouse so I can talk to Pres in person.”
She starts to push back, no doubt ready to argue with me again, but I bite her lip and grip her ass hard. “Do what I asked, or I’m going to take you in that room and edge your ass until you fall in line.”
She shudders. “You can’t do that.” Her words are breathy. “Kaylie—”
“Will stay in her room quiet like a good little girl with her snacks and a movie for hours if I promise to take her to see Caleb’s horses.
” Everly’s face falls. She knows I’m right.
Kaylie will play the silent game for hours if I tell her the prize is feeding Caleb’s horse.
A little trick he and Liz taught me over Christmas.
“Fuck you,” Everly grumbles.
“Oh, I plan on it, as soon as I make you my wife.”
The ride to the clubhouse is relatively quiet except for Kaylie, who has been prattling on about her bear Winston. Apparently, he and one of her new dolls have hit it off and will be having their own wedding in a few days. She’s been going on and on about the details.
Ever, however, is in her head. She’s been staring out the window watching the dark storm clouds rolling in the entire ride. The only time she turned her head was when I put my hand on her thigh and gave it a squeeze. She frowned but hasn’t moved my hand away. A small win, but I’ll take it.
“What’s got your pretty little head spinning over there?” I ask, pretty sure I know the answer.
“We’re fucking married.”
As soon as Everly got their shit together, we drove to the courthouse to see Judge Harper.
I paid him the cash, and he ran through the ceremony.
I was almost certain that Everly wasn’t going to go through with it, but I’m pretty sure when she saw who our witnesses were, she thought better of it.
When Vincenzo said witnesses would be provided, I had no idea it would be him and Dr. D’Angelo.
They were waiting in the judge’s chambers for us.
“Swear jar,” Kaylie interrupts.
“How about I just put twenty bucks in the jar then you won’t have to worry about reminding me anymore today. Deal?” Kaylie pumps her little arms in the air with excitement. This kid is a riot. “I’m pretty sure you’re about to hear a lot worse at the clubhouse anyway.”
“Lovely,” Ever grumbles.
“You didn’t seem too worried about the guy’s language when you were here before. Kaylie made a killing with her swear jar over Christmas,” I say, trying to lighten her mood. Ever glances at me out of the corner of her eyes, not looking the slightest bit amused by my joke.
“Sissy says I almost have enough for my new bike.”
I shake my head, laughing. “Good to know, Squirt. But you need enough for a helmet, knee pads, and a bell before you can get your new bike,” I tease, but I mean every word.
“Oh, she knows.” Ever adds. “And training wheels, and whatever else I deem necessary.”
Kaylie sighs loudly. “Ugh.” Then adds, “Can I sit by Hawk and Sadie for dinner? They always say bad words when they argue, and that’s like all the time.”
Smart kid.
“Come on, Ev? What’s got you so wound up over there?”
She shrugs. “Well, let’s see. Sadie hates me and has already made it a point to let me know.
She’s about as close as you can get to everyone else in that clubhouse.
They all love her.” Her shoulders drop as well as the tone of her voice.
“They’re all going to hate me, Mason. They wouldn’t be wrong to.
I was out of line and a complete bitch.”
“No argument there,” I tease. Everly flips me off.
“And let’s not forget how excited I’m sure they’ll all be to learn we’re fucking married.”
Kaylie giggles again.
“Plug your ears!” Ever shouts, causing Kaylie to laugh harder but do as she’s told.
I scrub my chin. “First things first. All you have to do is apologize and explain you were pissed at your mom for all her shit and lashed out at me. If Sadie doesn’t want to accept that, then too fucking bad.
That was our argument, not hers.” She looks at me confused, though I don’t know why.
Does she think I don’t know she’s taking on her mom’s sins and using them as a shield to keep Kaylie safe?
“Everly. You may have a fucked-up view of bikers because of your mom’s choices, but if you really felt that strongly about it, you never would’ve let me anywhere around Kaylie, or you for that matter.
Yet you married me.” I grab her hand, bringing it to my lips and kiss it.
“I’ve been by your side since you came back into town.
You trust me. Maybe not the club or their way of life, but me.
I’m asking you to lean on that trust now and let me help you.
We can figure out everything else with the club later.
” I smile wide, pinching her chin between my fingers.
“Then I’m going to enjoy consummating our marriage,” I wiggle my brows.
“Ugh,” Everly huffs, slumping in her seat. “We’re not really married.”
“We are. I have the judge's signature to prove it. I bet I could even ask Mili for a copy of the photos she took if you need more proof.”
“You’re crazy,” Ever accuses. “And we both know once this guardian thing goes through, we’ll be getting this marriage annulled anyway. None of this is real.”
“Bullshit!” I growl. “You’re right about one thing. I am crazy, but that’s your fault. You drive me crazy,” I reply. Kaylie giggles in the back seat, her ears no longer covered.
“Traitor,” Ever teases her sister, who only giggles louder.
“But we are not getting an annulment. I don’t care what that old bat or anyone else thinks. This is the perfect solution to a lot of things.”
“For example?” Everly’s eyes are narrowed and her brow raised.
“For one, you’re finally mine, right now, only in name, but …” She goes to say something but stops herself. I lean toward her and whisper, “By the end of the night, you’ll be mine in every way.” I stare into her eyes, gripping her hand tightly in mine.
“Eyes on the road, Mason. You have my sister in the car.”
I chuckle. “I let you run away once, baby. I’m not letting you do it again. You’re it for me. And since we’ve said our vows and signed on the dotted line, you and Kaylie aren’t going anywhere without me. Don’t think I’m taking this shit lightly. I’m not.”
“You are insane.” She turns her head away toward the window. I hear her whisper, “You can’t mean it.” I can see her reflection in the side mirror. Her eyes are glassy with unshed tears. She still doesn’t believe me, but I’ll have plenty of time to prove it to her. Forever is a long ass time.
I’m not quiet, and I don’t whisper. I make sure she hears me when I tell her, “I mean every fucking word.”
Kaylie giggles. “You need to put more monies in the swear jar, Mason. You’re going to run out of swear words.”
