31- Samrat Ji, please let it go
The past few weeks in Tamil Nadu had been like a golden dream for Vaidehi.
She was experiencing, for the first time, the love of parents she had always longed for.
Inaya and Vishwaraj treated her like a princess.
Morning walks in the garden, discussing business with Papa all day, and falling asleep to Mama's lullabies at night-the little girl inside Vaidehi had come alive once again.
But amidst this happiness, there was one person who was slowly burning from within-Samrat.
Samrat Pratap Singh, who was his own master and whose obsession could cross any limit, was now feeling like a 'second option.
' To him, Vaidehi was his entire world, his stubborn resolve.
And now, that same Vaidehi was giving all her time, her laughter, and her attention to her parents.
Samrat absolutely despised this. He wanted Vaidehi's love solely for himself, without any sharing.
That day, Vaidehi had gone to a city carnival with her parents.
The entire day was spent in joy. Papa had let her shop to her heart's content.
In her hands were colorful balloons, on her forehead was a crown of flowers, and on her face was that innocent smile which had always been dearer to Samrat than his own life.
It was nearly 11 PM when Vaidehi entered the room, laughing and cheerful.
She was truly very happy today. But as soon as she opened the door, she saw the sight in the room and the balloons slipped from her hands.
The room was dark, with only one bulb glowing.
Samrat was standing in the middle of the room.
He had taken off his shirt, his hair was disheveled, and there was that fierce, burning fire in his eyes that Vaidehi recognized all too well.
And between his lips was a burning cigarette.
Beads of sweat glistened on his body.
Vaidehi was frightened, "Samrat Ji!
You... why are you standing like this? You scared me!
"
Samrat did not answer. He blew cigarette smoke into Vaidehi's face and took a step forward.
There was a strange harshness in his voice, a mixture of jealousy and rage.
"Do you have no other work, Vaidehi?
" Samrat's voice boomed. "You were missing since morning.
And now I see, you still haven't come out of that 'child' mode.
"
Vaidehi closed the door slowly, her breath hitching.
"What do you mean? I spent a good time with Papa and Mama today, so what is your problem?
"
Irritated, Samrat shouted, "The problem is that you are a married woman!
You have a husband in this house who has been waiting for you all day.
But you just want to roam around with those people.
Do I mean nothing in your life anymore?"
Vaidehi tried to defend herself, "Hey, it was you who said in the morning to go with Mom and Dad.
You weren't ready yourself, why are you showing anger now?
"
Samrat shook his head and stepped closer to her.
His jealousy was now crossing the limits of insanity.
He scanned Vaidehi with his eyes. "I don't give a damn about what I said in the morning.
I care about the fact that when you return, the sparkle in your eyes is because of someone else.
I want your love, Vaidehi. All of it! Whether it's your parents or anyone else.
.. I don't like interference from anyone.
Next time if you ignore me, I swear, I will throw everyone out of this house.
Then let's see who you spend your time with.
"
Vaidehi began to tremble. Samrat's possessiveness was not new to her, but today it was truly terrifying.
"You are being very possessive, Samrat Ji.
They are my parents!"
"I don't care!" Samrat roared.
"They arrived yesterday, I have been with you for years.
I don't want any 'sharing'."
That same night, a silence hung heavy in the general compartment of a train passing through the border of Tamil Nadu.
A man was sitting on his berth, his face covered with a black cloth.
In his hand was an old, faded photograph-Vaidehi's childhood picture.
His eyes... beautiful, yet filled with poison.
He was none other than Rudra.
Twenty years ago, it was because of this little girl Vaidehi that he had gone to jail.
The accident that happened at Vishwaraj's house that day, the real culprit was not Rudra, but all the blame was heaped upon him.
Vishwaraj's conspiracy had ruined him. He had spent 20 years in the rotting cells of a prison, just for this day.
He had given his entire youth; he was 38 years old now.
When he went to jail, he was 18, and now, 20 years later, he is 38.
He rubbed the photograph with his fingers.
There was a horrific glint in his eyes. He did not want to kill Vaidehi-no, he wanted to do something worse.
He wanted to kill Vaidehi by making her suffer bit by bit, so that Vishwaraj could see that pain with his own eyes.
"Very soon, little doll," he whispered between his lips, "your father's world will turn to ashes, and you will be the first spark of that fire.
"
The train's speed was increasing, and along with it, Rudra's intentions.
He was prepared to enter Vaidehi and Samrat's life.
He knew that even a 'lion' like Samrat, if trapped in his web, would find it impossible to save Vaidehi.
He had gathered complete information on Vaidehi while sitting in jail.
For Rudra, this revenge was no longer a game, but a religion.
