Epilogue

Dear Nana,

I’m sorry I’m late!! School’s been SO busy. But a deal is a deal and Mama B says if I’m gonna stick with something, I gotta follow through. I hate that she’s always right.

Okay, drum roll first: MY TEACHER GAVE ME THE STAGE MANAGER ROLE!

! Tell Finch he needs to pay up! He’s kinda the only one that bet against me.

I know he was just trying to be funny, but I really wanna buy a guitar for my birthday.

I thought Dad would if I could get him to place a bet too, but he didn’t make one.

He said that I was obviously going to get it because my mom was a stage manager and it just runs in my blood.

I keep asking when we’re going on tour again because I really want to send you post cards from all fifty states this time.

Last time was really fun because Uncle Rob’s band toured with us.

But I think Dad’s gonna announce retirement soon?

? I already know my friends are gonna lose it.

But just between you and me I’m super excited.

Mama B and I are already planning some big party after you and Finch come home!

Oh! I started working at Daisy’s chicken farm!

Mama B says I can’t tell people that because it breaks child labor laws or something (even though I’ve been on Birds a bajillion times) but I really like cleaning up after Great Uncle Greg’s painting classes on the weekends.

Maybe you can work with me when you move back!

We’re redoing the den for you and Finch so I had to clean out some old boxes of photos.

I found some Polaroids from when Dad and Mama B went skinny dipping in Scotland (gross!) and some pictures from Finch’s official-official retirement party (he’s so cute!), and Greg and Daisy’s wedding (I was the flower girl!).

But Dad says he’ll handle cleaning the room with all the Grammys and Emmys.

I also found a lot of photos of my mom when we were cleaning the basement. She was really pretty. I wish I’d gotten to know her more, and Dad said next time we go to the Grand Canyon we can take a trip out to where she’s from too just so I can see it.

I’m glad we’re still writing. My teacher said I could stop after the semester but I really like doing this.

I was thinking about being a writer. What do you think?

I’ve gotten my Bernie Bird voice pretty good so I’ve been writing show scripts.

I think Mama B even said she might show one to the team!

Maybe I’ll be Bernie one day like Mama B.

Or I think I wanna play guitar with Dad and Uncle Rob.

But I think I like painting a lot too. Dad says I can do whatever I want as long as I work at it.

He said he works really hard to be with Mama B but that it’s also really easy because she’s his purpose in life.

Maybe I need to find something that’s difficult but also easy.

I don’t know what my purpose is, but I bet Mama B will know.

I’ll have to ask her if she’s got any ideas.

But she’ll probably just say Dad is her purpose too. She always does.

See you soon, Nana!

Love,

Ava
